Two-dimensional nanostructures have gained tremendous interest in the field of biomedical applications and cancer activity in particular. Although sulfur is known for its wide range of biological activities, its potentiality in two-dimensional forms as an antitumor agent is hitherto unexplored. To address the current deficient knowledge on nano-sulfur as an antitumor agent, we report the synthesis of nano-sulfur sheets/particles and their cytotoxic, apoptotic activity against human carcinoma cell lines.

Aim: Optimization of Candida albicans growth and biofilm formation is essential for understanding the recalcitrance of this pathogen to advance functional analysis on hospital tools and material surfaces. Optimization and quantification of biofilm have always been a challenge using the conventional one variable at a time (OVAT) method. The present study uses central composite design-based response surface methodology for optimization of conditions to induce growth and biofilm formation in Candida albicans on polystyrene microtiter plates.

Cognitive brain-computer interface (cBCI) is an emerging area with applications in neurorehabilitation and performance monitoring. cBCI works on the cognitive brain signal that does not require a person to pay much effort unlike the motor brain-computer interface (BCI) however existing cBCI systems currently offer lower accuracy than the motor BCI. Since attention is one of the cognitive signals that can be used to realise the cBCI, this work uses the multiple object tracking (MOT) task to acquire the desired electroencephalograph (EEG) signal from healthy subjects.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common neoplasm in the world. Chronic inflammation of liver and associated wound healing processes collectively contribute to the development of cirrhosis which further progresses to dysplastic nodule and then to HCC. Etiological mediators and ongoing manipulations at cellular level in HCC are well established; however, key protein interactions and genetic alterations involved in stepwise hepatocarcinogenic pathways are seldom explored.

Magnetic activated charcoal/FeO nanocomposite (AC/FeONC) was fabricated using Spondias dulcis leaf extract by a facile method and used for the adsorptive removal of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) from aqueous solutions for the first time. The nanocomposite was characterized by methods such as FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR, TGA, VSM, and BET to identify and confirm the surface morphology, elemental composition, crystalline nature, functional groups, thermal stability, magnetic behavior, and surface area respectively. Box-Behnken Design (BBD) - an optimization method, which belongs to the Response surface methodology (RSM) and a modeling tool - Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were employed to design, optimize and predict the relationship between the input parameters (pH, initial concentration of 2,4-D, time and agitation speed) versus the output parameter (adsorption efficiency of 2,4-D).

Background And Objectives: Overexpression of prosurvival Bcl-2 family members make tumor cells resistant to conventional cancer therapeutic agents. It is commonly observed feature in many different types of human tumors. Hence, small-molecules as Bcl-2 inhibitors may have a promising therapeutic potential for the treatment of human cancer.

Despite great advancements in optical materials and luminescent hosts, self-luminescent blue-emitting phosphors are very limited. In this study we present the influence of fuels used in combustion synthesis on the photoluminescence and thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of self-luminescent Sr CeO blue-emitting phosphors. Four different fuels, oxalyldihydrazide (ODH), sugar, glycine, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, were used to synthesize Sr CeO Powder X-ray diffraction patterns showed that pure orthorhombic Sr CeO was formed only with the ODH fuel and the other fuels resulted in the formation of impurity phases.

Control processes associated with working memory play a central role in human cognition, but their underlying dynamic brain circuit mechanisms are poorly understood. Here we use system identification, network science, stability analysis, and control theory to probe functional circuit dynamics during working memory task performance. Our results show that dynamic signaling between distributed brain areas encompassing the salience (SN), fronto-parietal (FPN), and default mode networks can distinguish between working memory load and predict performance.

Fibroblasts and myofibroblasts play a myriad of important roles in human tissue function, especially in wound repair and healing. Among all cells, fibroblasts are group of cells that decide the status of wound as they maintain tissue homeostasis. Currently, the increase in the deleterious effects of chronic wound and their morbidity rate has necessitated the need to understand the influence of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts, which chiefly originate locally from tissue-resident fibroblasts to address the same.

B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) family is one of the chief regulators of cellular apoptosis. The intricate interactions between pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic genes of the BCL-2 family dictate the apoptotic balance of the cell. An overexpression of the anti-apoptotic members of BCL-2 is indicative of cell death evasion and cancer metastasis.
