Evaluation of a point-of-care rapid diagnostic test kit (SICKLECHECK) for screening of sickle cell diseases.

Sickle cell diseases (SCD) are the most common genetic disorders with significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, including in India. The high prevalence of this disorder in many geographical regions calls for the use of a point-of-care rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for early screening and management of the diagnosed cases to reduce the allied clinical severity. In view of this, the present study was undertaken for the validation of a point-of-care RDT kit (SICKLECHECKTM) for the screening of SCD.

Introduction: This study aimed to distinguish isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) from constitutional delay in growth and puberty (CDGP) by various hormonal tests in both sexes.

Methods: Boys with testicular volume (TV) <4 ml (14-18 years) and girls with breast B stage (13-18 years) were enrolled in this study. This study aimed to understand the effect of α-thalassemia on the severity of malaria in adults with respect to sickle-cell genotypes. The study subjects were categorized into 'severe-malaria' and 'uncomplicated-malaria' and age-gender matched 'control' groups.

Prevalence of hypertension and the associated factors among Sabar and Munda tribes of Eastern India.

Background: Hypertension can be attributable to about 10% of all non-communicable diseases (NCDs). There is a steady rise in the prevalence of hypertension among both the urban as well as the rural population and the tribal communities are no exception to this. The present study was done during 2009-10 among two tribes residing in a more developed eastern district of Odisha, but the results can be compared with the studies done in recent times.

Nebulization therapy emerges as a good option in these cases besides being useful in the home care, emergency room and critical care settings.

Methods: Indian College of Cardiology National Heart Failure Registry (ICCNHFR) is an on-going observational registry on ADHF contributed by 22 hospitals across India; and we present the in-hospital and 30-day outcomes of ADHF patients enrolled from August 2018 to July 2019.

Spontaneous giant pseudoaneurysm of right occipital artery: a case report.

Occipital artery pseudoaneurysm is a rare entity and few cases have been reported worldwide. Here, we are presenting a case of 32-year young lady with headache and a large swelling on the right side of the neck, without any history of trauma. Computed tomography (CT) angiogram revealed pseudoaneurysm of third part of the occipital artery.

Background: Distal radiocephalic fistula (DRCF) at wrist is the first option of vascular access in patients undergoing hemodialysis. In patients with a failed DRCF or unsuitable for DRCF the current recommendation is to perform a brachiocephalic fistula. Proximal forearm radiocephalic fistulas (PRCF) are created less frequently.

Phacoemulsification vs manual small incision cataract surgery in eyes affected by pseudo exfoliation syndrome with grade II and III cataracts.

Purpose: To compare the postoperative alteration of central corneal thickness (CCT) and visual outcomes between phacoemulsification (group A) and manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) (group B) in grade II and III nuclear cataracts (NS II and III) with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF).

Methods: It is a double masked prospective randomised interventional study. A total of 60 eyes of 60 patients were assigned randomly to either the phacoemulsification (group A) or MSICS (group B) groups.

Cardiovascular manifestations of people living with HIV/AIDS: Report from a hot spot in eastern India.

Objective: To study the profile and characteristics of cardiovascular abnormalities among patients living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) at a tertiary care hospital in India. The association of cardiovascular abnormalities with the CD4 count and disease stages, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification, was also analyzed.

Methods: A total of 200 patients with HIV/AIDS were compared with 50 healthy controls.

Unusual case of ruptured posterior lenticonus.

A 14-year-old boy presented with a report of sudden-onset loss of vision in the right eye for the previous 10 days. The patient was diagnosed with a total cataract and ruptured posterior lenticonus. Lenticular aspiration was performed with an irrigation/aspiration probe.

Evaluation of Vitamin D Status and its Impact on Thyroid Related Parameters in New Onset Graves' Disease- A Cross-sectional Observational Study.
