Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder with a multi-systemic involvement, the gastrointestinal (GI) system being one of them. In this study, we have compiled and analyzed findings from various studies to conclude that peripheral insulin resistance and hyperglycemia are the two key factors that play a role in the pathogenesis of the web of disorders associated with diabetes. These two key factors, when clubbed with autoimmunity, autonomic neuropathy, and genetic and environmental factors, play a substantial role in the development of GI disorders in DM.

Background: Children with exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 in recent times (asymptomatic or symptomatic infection) approaching congenital heart surgery programme are in increasing numbers. Understanding outcomes of such children will help risk-stratify and guide optimisation prior to congenital heart surgery.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to determine whether convalescent coronavirus disease 2019 children undergoing congenital heart surgery have any worse mortality or post-operative outcomes.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune disease that leads the patient to have a diverse clinical presentation encompassing several systems and a worse prognosis, mainly when complications arise. Most SSc-related deaths are caused by pulmonary hypertension (PH) and interstitial lung disease (ILD). This article focuses on pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) and ILD as pulmonary consequences of SSc.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with extra-intestinal manifestations (EIMs) that tend to parallel intestinal activity and have a debilitating effect on the quality of life. EIMs primarily affect the joints, skin, and eyes with less frequent involvement of the liver, kidney, and pancreas. This article reviews the prevalence of musculoskeletal, dermatological, ocular, and other manifestations in IBD and their coalition with underlying intestinal inflammation.

Buerger's disease or thromboangiitis obliterans is a type of obstructive vascular diseases categorized as vasculitis and usually present in 95% of young smoker men. The main pathogenetic mechanism is interplay between immune system and inflammation. Earlier our phase II study has shown that Stempeucel is safe when injected at 2 million cells/kg body weight by virtue of its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and angiogenetic properties.

Drug discovery for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is channeled towards unravelling key disease specific drug targets/genes to predict promising therapeutic candidates. Though enormous literature on AD genetics is available, there exists dearth in data pertinent to drug targets and crucial pathological pathways intertwined in disease progression. Further, the research findings revealing genetic associations failed to demonstrate consistency across different studies.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are among the most extensively prescribed medications internationally for gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment and the prevention of gastrointestinal bleeding. Their efficiency, ease of availability, and low side effect profile offer several advantages over other treatment modalities. Long-term use and inappropriate prescribing habits have increased the presence of this class of drugs, prompting several studies to reassess their adverse effects.

Background: Early biomarkers of progression to severe dengue are urgently required to enable effective patient management and control treatment costs. Innate immune cells, which comprise the earliest responders to infection and along with the cytokines and chemokines they secrete, play a vital role in orchestrating the subsequent adaptive immune response and have been implicated in the enhancement of infection and "cytokine storm" associated with dengue severity. We investigated the early innate immune cytokine profile of dengue patients during acute phase of disease in a prospective blinded study that included subjects with acute dengue and febrile controls from four major hospitals in Bengaluru, India along with healthy controls.

It is estimated that hippocampal damage is seen in 50 to 70% of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Although most magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies are adequate to detect gross hippocampal atrophy, subtle changes that may characterize early disease in TLE, such as visually nonappreciable volume loss, may often be missed if objective volumetric analysis is not undertaken. We conducted a hospital-based prospective analytical study in which 40 patients with partial seizures of temporal lobe origin were included and their hippocampal volumes (HVs) were determined by manual volumetric analysis.

Department of Surgical Oncology, M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, Karnataka 560054 India.

Surgical management of node positive breast cancer requires axillary dissection. Interpectoral nodes (IPNs) or Rotter's nodes removal is controversial as there is hardly any tissue in this region. IPNs involvement is rarely seen among breast cancer patients.

Background: Adverse psychological effect of pandemic includes not only increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression but also cyberchondria - the problematic online health research behavior. It is thought that the distress and uncertainty of pandemic clubbed with information overload and its ambiguity have paved the way for cyberchondria. Students being the vulnerable population, the present study was an effort at understanding cyberchondria in students.

Background: In recent times due to the advancement of haemodialysis techniques, there is increase in the life span of the patients with end-stage renal disease, which tends to increase the risk of complications of bacteraemia due to skin penetration for blood access and leading to propensity for more skeletal and spinal complications. Hence, early diagnosis of spine infection and early initiation of appropriate therapy are important in ensuring successful treatment and preventing further morbidity.

Materials And Methods: The study included 22 males and 12 females who were known case of end-stage renal disease undergoing haemodialysis therapy and diagnosed with spondylodiscitis based on the clinical and radiological signs.

Background: Precise differential diagnosis between acute viral and bacterial infections is important to enable appropriate therapy, avoid unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions and optimize the use of hospital resources. A systems view of host response to infections provides opportunities for discovering sensitive and robust molecular diagnostics.

Methods: We combine blood transcriptomes from six independent datasets (n = 756) with a knowledge-based human protein-protein interaction network, identifies subnetworks capturing host response to each infection class, and derives common response cores separately for viral and bacterial infections.

Background And Introduction: The success of endoscopic skull base surgery is largely based on the effective repair of the skull base defect. A pedicled nasoseptal flap (NSF), described by Hadad-Bassagateguy is the workhorse of contemporary endoscopic skull base repair. We describe a modification in the technique, "double breasting technique," using the bilateral posterior NSF for skull base repair.
