Background: Tibial plateau fractures are associated with significant soft tissue injuries which increases the risks of complications and must be considered when managing tibial plateau fractures. Various modalities of treatment are available for treatment of these fractures but Ilizarov fixation has a special advantage over others. Review of literature shows many studies of Ilizarov fixation in the treatment of tibial plateau fractures with variable results.

Aneurysmal bone cyst of medial end of clavicle in a child, a rare case report.

Aneurysmal bone cyst is a locally aggressive benign tumor accounting for 3 % of all benign bone tumors. It most commonly arises from ends of long bones and relatively rare in flat bones. Clavicle is a very rare site for bone tumors with secondaries more common than primaries.

Solitary sessile osteochondroma of scapula, a rare case report.

Osteochondromas are the most common benign tumours of bone. These are most commonly seen on the metaphysis of a long bone, but they can arise from any bone which is preformed from cartilage. To best of our knowledge, very few cases of osteochondroma scapula have been reported in literature.

Calcium sulfate as bone graft substitute in the treatment of osseous bone defects, a prospective study.

Background: Calcium sulfate belongs to synthetic ceramic group of bone graft substitutes having an osteoconductive property. Calcium sulfate is an easily available, economic bone graft substitute. It is a bio-inert material which over a period of weeks get resorbed and fibrovascular tissue takes its place which eventually allows neovascularisation and bone formation within the area.

Nasal endoscopic and anterior craniotomy resection for esthesioneuroblastoma: how we did it.

The objective of this study was to report and present an approach to combine functional and esthetic technique of endoscopic nasal tumor resection with anterior cranial fossa extension resection in a case of Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB), a rare slow growing malignant neoplasm of the olfactory mucosa. For this purpose, the mass was excised by nasal endoscopic approach with microdebrider and anterior craniotomy with bi-coronal incision. The cribriform plate defect was reconstructed with temporalis fascia and nasal defect with fascia and rotated middle turbinate.

Bronchial cast: a case report.

We present a case of a child who presented with respiratory distress mimicking foreign body aspiration which was treated by bronchoscopic extraction of bronchial cast. Early interventional bronchoscopy in management of plastic bronchitis, though difficult, provides an immediate benefit and good prognosis especially in patients with no underlying cardiopulmonary morbidity.

Citric acid treatment of severe electric burns complicated by multiple antibiotic resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

A case of severe electric burns complicated by multiple antibiotic resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa not responding to various antibiotics administered systemically is presented. Citric acid (3%) was used successfully to eliminate Pseudomonas aeruginosa from burn wounds and infection was completely controlled in 14 days. Citric acid treatment is evidently of value in the clinical control of burn wound colonization caused by difficult strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Norfloxacin induced resistance to fluoroquinolones & structurally unrelated antimicrobial agents in coagulase negative staphylococci.

Nine clinical isolates of coagulase negative staphylococci (CONS) susceptible to norfloxacin (MIC 1.8-2 micrograms/ml) were manipulated in vitro to induce norfloxacin resistance by means of serial passage in brain heart infusion broth containing increasing concentrations of norfloxacin. Exposure of CONS to norfloxacin resulted in 18 to 20 times increase in MIC of norfloxacin and change in in vitro susceptibility to ciprofloxacin, pefloxacin, ofloxacin, kanamycin, neomycin and tobramycin, indicating development of cross resistance to fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides.
