Birds are one of the most diverse groups among terrestrial vertebrates. They evolved from theropod dinosaurs, are closely related to the sauropsid group and separated from crocodiles about 240 million years ago. According to the IUCN, 12% of bird populations are threatened with potential extinction.

In recent years, plague has re-emerged in several countries around the world and remains endemic in some regions. In a natural environment and in contact with rodents and their fleas, stray carnivores are most at risk of catching the disease and maintaining the spread of the bacillus. The present study aimed to demonstrate the presence or absence of in stray dogs and cats in the Algiers region by molecular methods and thus determine their role in epidemiology of this disease.

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is widely used for covering electrical cables, but a decrease in its physicochemical, thermal, and mechanical properties has been observed over time. Poly(nitrile butadiene) rubber (NBR), due to its certain properties, was chosen to be blended with PVC to improve its specific properties, when used as insulation for electrical cables installed in nuclear power plants. Thus, this work focuses on the effect of γ radiation at doses ranging from 10 to 50 KGy on the physicochemical, thermal, morphological, and mechanical properties of PVC, as well as on the improvement of its properties by the incorporation of NBR in the PVC matrix as a blend.

Conductive polymers such as polypyrrole have been widely used as pseudo-capacitive electrodes for supercapacitors. This work demonstrates a simple method to improve the performance of conductive polymer electrodes by adding montmorillonite in order to perform capacitive behavior. Conductive composite polymers (CCPs) based on montmorillonite/polypyrrole (MMT/PPy(Cl)) have been synthesized by polymerization using FeCl as an oxidizing agent.

The exploitation of food industry wastes and their conversion into value-added products present a promising and continuously growing field, given the diversity of elaborated wastes. The current work aimed to utilize sweet cheese whey as a growth medium for acid protease production by a local fungus strain. The biochemical and physicochemical properties of the cheese whey, such as pH, conductivity, chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen and protein contents, and mineral salts, were assessed using various analytical methods.

Sensitive thermometry or thermography by responding to blackbody radiation is urgently desired in the intelligent information life, including scientific research, medical diagnosis, remote sensing, defense, etc. Even though thermography techniques based on infrared sensing have undergone unprecedented development, the poor compatibility with common optical components and the high diffraction limit impose an impediment to their integration into the established photonic integrated circuit or the realization of high-spatial-resolution and high-thermal-resolution imaging. In this work, we present a sensitive temperature-dependent visible photon detection in Bi-doped MAPbX (X = Cl, Br, and I) and employ it for uncooled thermography.

Polyacrylic Acid grafted Agar-agar (AAc--Agar), and polyacrylamide grafted Agar-Agar (AAm--Agar) have been synthesised by free radical polymerisation route initiated by ammonium peroxodisulphate (APS), the grafted polymers were characterised by FTIR, TGA and SEM methods. The swelling properties were studied in deionised water and saline solution at room temperature. The prepared hydrogels were examined by removing cationic methylene blue (MB) dye from the aqueous solution, in which the adsorption kinetics and isotherms models were also investigated.

Chitosan (CS) films exhibit great potential as a substrate for the in vitro mineralization process. In this study, to mimic the formation of nanohydroxyapatite (HAP) as natural tissue, CS films coated with a porous calcium phosphate were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Calcium phosphate coating deposited on phosphorylated derivatives of CS was obtained by a process based on phosphorylation, Ca(OH) treatment and artificial saliva solution (ASS) immersion.

Considered heavy metals, such as As(III), Bi(II), Cd(II), Cr(VI), Mn(II), Mo(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Sb(III), Se(-II), Zn(II), and contaminating chemical compounds (monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as phenolic or polycyclic derivatives) in wastewater (petrochemical industries: oil and gas production plants) are currently a major concern in environmental toxicology due to their toxic effects on aquatic and terrestrial life. In order to maintain biodiversity, hydrosphere ecosystems, and people, it is crucial to remove these heavy metals and polluting chemical compounds from the watery environment. In this study, different Nanoparticles (α-FeO, CuO, and ZnO) were synthesized by green synthesis method using Portulaca oleracea leaf extract and characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometers, FTIR spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) techniques in order to investigate morphology, composition, and crystalline structure of NPs, these were then used as adsorbent for the removal of As(III), Bi(II), Cd(II), Cr(VI), Mn(II), Mo(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Sb(III), Se(-II), and Zn(II) from wastewater, and removal efficiencies of were obtained 100% under optimal conditions.

The carbonate reservoir quality is strongly reliant on the compaction process during sediment burial and other processes such as cementation and dissolution. Porosity and pore pressure are the two main factors directly affected by mechanical and chemical compactions. Porosity reduction in these carbonates is critically dependent on the overburden stress and subsidence rate.

The use of biosorption as a strategy for lowering the amount of pollution caused by heavy metals is particularly encouraging. In this investigation, a low-cost and efficient biosorbent, Inula Viscosa leaves were used to remove zinc ions (Zn) from synthetic wastewater. A Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy experiment, a scanning electron microscopy experiment, and an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy experiment were used to describe the support.

Background: The adrenal cortex provides adequate steroidogenic responses to environmental changes. However, in desert rodents, the adrenocortical activity varies according to several factors especially sex, age, and seasonal variations. Herein, we examined the sex differences in the adrenal cortex activity and explored the involvement of sex hormones in the regulation of this function in Libyan jird Meriones libycus.

Objective: The present manuscript aims to describe an international, electronic-based, user-friendly and interoperable patient registry for monogenic autoinflammatory diseases (mAIDs), developed in the contest of the Autoinflammatory Diseases Alliance (AIDA) Network.
Methods: This is an electronic platform, based on the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) tool, used for real-world data collection of demographics, clinical, laboratory, instrumental and socioeconomic data of mAIDs patients. The instrument has flexibility, may change over time based on new scientific acquisitions, and communicate potentially with other similar registries; security, data quality and data governance are corner stones of the platform.

Electronic devices that transmit, distribute, or utilize electrical energy create electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can lead to malfunctioning and degradation of electronic devices. EMI shielding materials block the unwanted electromagnetic waves from reaching the target material. EMI issues can be solved by using a new family of building blocks constituted of polymer and nanofillers.
