Oculomotor Adaptation Elicited By Intra-Saccadic Visual Stimulation: Time-Course of Efficient Visual Target Perturbation.

Front Hum Neurosci

March 2016

Integrative Multisensory Perception Action and Cognition Team, Lyon Neuroscience Research Center, INSERM, Unit 1028, CNRS Unit 5292, Lyon I University Lyon, France.

Perception of our visual environment strongly depends on saccadic eye movements, which in turn are calibrated by saccadic adaptation mechanisms elicited by systematic movement errors. Current models of saccadic adaptation assume that visual error signals are acquired only after saccade completion, because the high speed of saccade execution disturbs visual processing (saccadic "suppression" and "mislocalization"). Complementing a previous study from our group, here we report that visual information presented during saccades can drive adaptation mechanisms and we further determine the critical time window of such error processing.

Prismatic Adaptation Induces Plastic Changes onto Spatial and Temporal Domains in Near and Far Space.

Neural Plast

December 2016

Department of Psychology, University of Bologna, 40127 Bologna, Italy; Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri, Clinica del Lavoro e della Riabilitazione, IRCCS, Istituto Scientifico di Castel Goffredo, 46042 Mantova, Italy.

A large literature has documented interactions between space and time suggesting that the two experiential domains may share a common format in a generalized magnitude system (ATOM theory). To further explore this hypothesis, here we measured the extent to which time and space are sensitive to the same sensorimotor plasticity processes, as induced by classical prismatic adaptation procedures (PA). We also exanimated whether spatial-attention shifts on time and space processing, produced through PA, extend to stimuli presented beyond the immediate near space.

April 2016

Department of maxillofacial surgery, hospices civils de Lyon, hôpital Lyon-Sud, Claude-Bernard Lyon I university, chemin du Grand-Revoyet, 69495 Pierre-Bénite, France.

Introduction: Patients sometimes spontaneously report a modification of the width of their lower face after an advancement bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (ABSSO). The main goal of our study was to assess the variation of the bigonial distance (BGD) before and after ABSSO in a group of patients. The second goal was to look for a possible relation between the variation of BGD and the amount of mandibular advancement.

When Prostate Cancer Circulates in the Bloodstream.

Diagnostics (Basel)

October 2015

Cancer Research Centre of Lyon, U1052 INSERM, CNRS 5286, Léon Bérard Centre, Lyon I University, 28 rue Laennec, Lyon 69008, France.

Management of patients with prostate cancer is currently based on imperfect clinical, biological, radiological and pathological evaluation. Prostate cancer aggressiveness, including metastatic potential, remains difficult to accurately estimate. In an attempt to better adapt therapeutics to an individual (personalized medicine), reliable evaluation of the intrinsic molecular biology of the tumor is warranted, and particularly for all tumor sites (primary tumors and secondary sites) at any time of the disease progression.

Purpose: The Alcohol Quality of Life Scale (AQoLS) is a new patient-reported outcome 34-item questionnaire measuring health-related quality of life (HRQOL), specific to patients with an alcohol use disorder, developed from the patients' perspective. This is the first report establishing evidence in support of measurement reliability and validity of the AQoLS.

Methods: A total of 285 randomly selected patients receiving interventions for alcohol use disorder in addiction specialised care settings in France were included in the study (response rate 80.

Modulators of the human ABCC2: hope from natural sources?

Future Med Chem

August 2016

Drug Resistance Modulation & Membrane Proteins Laboratory, Molecular & Structural Basis of Infectious Systems, Mixed Research Unit between the National Centre for Scientific Research & Lyon I University n 5086, Institute of Biology & Chemistry of Proteins, 7 passage du Vercors 69367, Lyon, Cedex, France.

Human ABCC2 is an ATP-binding cassette transporter involved in the export of endobiotics and xenobiotics. It is involved in cisplatin resistance in cancer cells, particularly in ovarian cancer. The few known ABCC2 modulators are poorly efficient, so it is necessary to explore new ways to select and optimize efficient compounds ABCC2.

West syndrome (WS), defined by the triad of infantile spasms, pathognomonic hypsarrhythmia and developmental regression, is a rare epileptic disease affecting about 1:3500 live births. To get better insights on the genetic of this pathology, we exome-sequenced the members of a consanguineous family affected with isolated WS. We identified a homozygous variant (c.

Background: Mutations in the gene ATP1A3 have recently been identified to be prevalent in patients with alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC2). Based on a large series of patients with AHC, we set out to identify the spectrum of different mutations within the ATP1A3 gene and further establish any correlation with phenotype.

Methods: Clinical data from an international cohort of 155 AHC patients (84 females, 71 males; between 3 months and 52 years) were gathered using a specifically formulated questionnaire and analysed relative to the mutational ATP1A3 gene data for each patient.

Background: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) is a procedure with a high infection risk. Strict isolation of patients is the rule to prevent such condition.

Objective: We compared the occurrence of severe infections (bacteremia and invasive fungal infection, IFI) in children undergoing alloHSCT before and after the move to a new protected unit with decreases in isolation methods.

Deployment of spatial attention without moving the eyes is boosted by oculomotor adaptation.

Front Hum Neurosci

August 2015

Integrative, Multisensory, Perception, Action and Cognition Team, Lyon Neuroscience Research Center, INSERM, Unit 1028, CNRS Unit 5292, Bron, France and Lyon I University Lyon, France.

Vertebrates developed sophisticated solutions to select environmental visual information, being capable of moving attention without moving the eyes. A large body of behavioral and neuroimaging studies indicate a tight coupling between eye movements and spatial attention. The nature of this link, however, remains highly debated.

Ketonic indeno[1,2-b]indole-9,10-dione derivatives, initially designed as human casein kinase II (CK2) inhibitors, were recently shown to be converted into efficient inhibitors of drug efflux by the breast cancer resistance protein ABCG2 upon suited substitutions including a N (5)-phenethyl on C-ring and hydrophobic groups on D-ring. A series of ten phenolic and seven p-quinonic derivatives were synthesized and screened for inhibition of both CK2 and ABCG2 activities. The best phenolic inhibitors were about threefold more potent against ABCG2 than the corresponding ketonic derivatives, and showed low cytotoxicity.

The cerebellum is involved in sensorimotor operations, cognitive tasks and affective processes. Here, we revisit the concept of the cerebellar syndrome in the light of recent advances in our understanding of cerebellar operations. The key symptoms and signs of cerebellar dysfunction, often grouped under the generic term of ataxia, are discussed.
