The influence of familiarity between the surgeon and their assistant on patient outcomes: a prospective observational cohort study.

Background: The inverse relationship between increased surgical team familiarity and reduced operative time is established, but its effect on patient outcomes remains uncertain.

Materials And Methods: A prospective cohort study including operations by attending surgeons between 1 November 2020 and 31 December 2021 across fourteen surgical departments from four French university hospitals. Surgical team familiarity was measured as the cumulative number of previous operations performed by the same dyad of attending and assisting surgeons.

Management and outcome of mesh infection after abdominal wall reconstruction in a tertiary care center.

Purpose: Abdominal wall reconstruction is a common surgical procedure, with a post-operative risk of mesh-associated infection of which management is poorly known. This study aims to comprehensively analyze clinical and microbiological aspects of mesh infection, treatment modalities, and associated outcomes.

Methods: Patients with abdominal mesh infection were included in a retrospective observational cohort (2010-2023).

Cytotoxic surface contamination in hospitals: Current practices, challenges and perspectives.

Objective: Despite significant advances in cancer treatment with targeted therapies and immunotherapies, cytotoxic chemotherapies are still extensively used. Potential cytotoxic contamination in preparing and administrating cytotoxics is still a major source of concern. Besides advanced protections including biological safety cabinets, work surface contamination needs to be continuously controlled to ensure that handling procedures and cleaning were appropriate.

Are crystalloid-based fluid expansion strategies still relevant in the first hours of trauma induced hemorrhagic shock?

Background: Crystalloid-based fluid resuscitation has long been a cornerstone in the initial management of trauma-induced hemorrhagic shock. However, its benefit is increasingly questioned as it is suspected to increase bleeding and worsen coagulopathy. The emergence of alternative strategies like permissive hypotension and vasopressor use lead to a shift in early trauma care practices.

Methods of nivolumab administration in advanced melanoma: A comparison of patients' clinical outcomes treated with flat dose or weight-adjusted dose, a multicenter observational study.

Background: Nivolumab obtained approval in advanced melanoma (AM) with weight-adjusted dose (WAD) administration (3 mg/kg/2 weeks). In 2018, the dosage regimen was changed to flat dose (FD) administration (240 mg/2 weeks or 480 mg/4 weeks) based on a modeling study, without clinical data.

Methods: AM patients have been prospectively included in the French national multicenter MelBase database since 2013.

Food choices, microstructure of ingestive behavior and sensory perceptions after bariatric surgery in women: A cross-sectional study.

Unlabelled: Results regarding the impact of bariatric surgery (BS) on food choices are inconsistent between studies based on self-reported questionnaires, and those using direct measurements. Moreover, the determinants of the modifications of food choices after BS, if any, are still poorly understood. This study compared food choices, food liking, microstructure of ingestive behavior and sensory perceptions between women who had BS in the last 18 months (BS group, n = 19; Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy) and women with BMI ≥35 kg m (OB group, n = 17) in ecological conditions and explored the associations of food choices with sensory perceptions and food liking.

Real-world efficacy of the dabrafenib-trametinib (D-T) combination in BRAF V600E-mutated metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): Results from the IFCT-2004 BLaDE cohort.

Background: BRAF V600E mutations occur in 2-5 % of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The dabrafenib-trametinib (D-T) combination was associated with improved and durable OS in patients in phase II. This study (IFCT-2004 BLaDE study) reported the efficacy of D-T combination in a large retrospective French real-world multicenter cohort of patients with advanced BRAF V600E-mutated NSCLC.

Background: Prior work evaluated clinician work-related physical activity and found it does not meet recommended requirements. We aimed to assess more fully daily surgeon physical activity and compare it to self-reported activity.

Methods: This multispecialty prospective cohort study included attending surgeons from 14 surgical departments within four French university hospitals.

Background: This study aimed to demonstrate the utility of the nasal Type I interferon (IFN-I) response as a marker for respiratory viral infections (RVIs) and its potential to enhance diagnosis when combined with first-line PCR tests for Influenza A/B, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: Nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) from patients at Hospices Civils de Lyon (November 2022-April 2024) suspected of viral infections (n = 788) and from healthy controls (n = 53) were analysed. The IFN-I score was measured using the FILMARRAY® IFN-I pouch prototype, which detects four interferon-stimulated genes.

Objectives: To investigate the risk and predictors of severity and mortality of COVID-19 infection in patients with Connective Tissue Diseases (CTDs).

Methods: Using the French nationwide claims and hospitalization database, we assembled a nation-wide exhaustive cohort of adult CTD patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, Sjögren's disease, inflammatory myopathies, systemic sclerosis. We analyzed the rates of hospitalization, severe inpatient stays (intensive care unit [ICU] admissions or in-hospital mortality), and in-hospital mortality with COVID-19 from January 1st to December 31st, 2020.

End-of-life management of multiple myeloma patients in the era of CD38 and immunotherapy.

Background: In spite of spectacular advances in the treatment of multiple myeloma, a majority of patients will die from this disease or related complications. While a great amount of focus has been dedicated to the development of novel therapies, little attention has been paid to latter stages of patient follow-up.

Patients And Methods: In order to describe patient management during this critical period as well as the immediate causes and circumstances of death, we have analyzed a single center series of 100 patients diagnosed with myeloma who died between 2016 and 2021.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and is characterized by muscle weakness, paralysis and ultimately, respiratory failure. The exact causes of ALS are not understood, though it is believed to combine genetic and environmental factors. Until now, it was admitted that motor neurons (MN) in the brain and spinal cord degenerate, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis.

Background: Multiple studies have evaluated fecal microbiota transfer (FMT) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) using single-donor (SDN) and multidonor (MDN) products. Systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to compare the safety of SDN and MDN products.

Methods: Systematic searches were performed in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and Orbit Intelligence to identify studies that compared FMT products manufactured using SDN or MDN strategies against control treatment in patients with UC.

Valemetostat tosylate (valemetostat) is a potent, novel, dual inhibitor of EZH2 and EZH1.
