Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effectiveness of a new treatment combining camrelizumab with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and either sorafenib or lenvatinib in comparison to TACE with just sorafenib or lenvatinib for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • A total of 127 advanced HCC patients were analyzed, with 44 receiving the triple therapy and 83 receiving double treatment, revealing that the triple therapy significantly improved overall survival and progression-free survival rates.
  • While the overall response and disease control rates were similar between both groups, the triple therapy was particularly beneficial for patients with HCC related to HBV and larger tumor sizes.

Background: Ingestion of gastrointestinal foreign bodies (FB) is a common clinical problem worldwide. Approximately 10-20% of FBs require an endoscopic procedure for removal, and < 1% require surgery.

Case Description: An 89-year-old male with Alzheimer's disease was hospitalized because of abdominal pain, abdominal distention, vomiting for three days, and cessation of bowel movements for six days.

A potential therapeutic approach for cancer treatment is target oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis simultaneously. The matrix protein of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV MP) can target the surface of mitochondria, causing morphological changes that may be associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative phosphorylation inhibition. Previous research has shown that mitochondrial abnormalities can direct glucose metabolism toward glycolysis.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. However, effective diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic biomarkers are still lacking. Our research group previously revealed through high-throughput sequencing that the serum exosomes miR-133a-3p, miR-206, and miR-549a-3p differ significantly in severe TBI (sTBI), mild or moderate TBI (mTBI), and control groups.

Objectives: To identify hub genes and biological processes of propofol-induced neurotoxicity and promote the development of pediatric anesthesiology.

Methods: We downloaded the GSE106799 dataset from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened, then Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, Gene Ontology and Gene Set Enrichment analyses were performed on all DEGs.

Background: The optimal local treatment for HCC with tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm is not well established. This research evaluated the effectiveness of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) versus transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for HCC with tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm.

Methods: A total of 1210 HCC patients were enrolled in this study, including 302 and 908 patients that received EBRT and TACE, respectively.

Background: The prognosis of patients undergoing hepatectomy combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and TACE alone was examined in order to better understand the role of hepatectomy in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this work, we also created a model and investigated the variables influencing overall survival (OS) in HCC patients.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 1083 patients who received TACE alone as the control group and 188 patients who received TACE after surgery in a total of 1271 HCC patients treated with LR + TACE or TACE at three third-class hospitals in China.

Background: Data on persistent candidemia (PC), a recognized complication of candidemia, are lacking in China. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors for the mortality of PC among adults in China.

Methods: This 6-year retrospective study analyzed the prevalence, species distribution, antifungal susceptibility, risk factors, and patient mortality of PC among adults in three regional tertiary teaching hospitals in China from 2016 to 2021.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to research the morphological classification and clinical significance of vertebral artery sulcus on atlas based on CT three-dimensional reconstruction.

Methods: Three-dimensional reconstruction images of 300 adult atlases were collected. A total of 600 atlas vertebral artery sulci were selected in this study.

Background: The present study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of the 24-h National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for short- and long-term outcomes of patients with basilar artery occlusion (BAO) after endovascular treatment (EVT) in daily clinical routine.

Methods: Patients with EVT for acute basilar artery occlusion study registry with the 24-h NIHSS, and clinical outcomes documented at 90 days and 1 year were included. The NIHSS admission, 24-h NIHSS, NIHSS delta, and NIHSS percentage change, binary definitions of early neurological improvement [ENI; improvement of 4/(common ENI)/8 (major ENI)/10 (dramatic ENI)] NIHSS points were compared to predict the favorable outcomes and mortality at 90 days and 1 year.

Background: Although the diagnostic value of plasma heat-shock protein 90α (HSP90α) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been previously reported, the causal effect of the plasma HSP90α levels on HCC prognosis remains largely unclear. To this extent, we sought to assess whether the plasma HSP90α acts as a prognostic factor for HCC patients.

Methods: A total of 2150 HCC patients were included in this retrospective study between August 2016 and July 2021.
