Before we attempt to (approximately) learn a function between two sets of observables of a physical process, we must first decide what the and of the desired function are going to be. Here we demonstrate two distinct, data-driven ways of first deciding "the right quantities" to relate through such a function, and then proceeding to learn it. Methods: Estimated numbers of MM cases and deaths and age-standardized (World) incidence and mortality rates per 100,000 people were obtained from the GLOBOCAN 2022 database covering 185 countries.

This work focuses on the need for modeling and predicting adverse outcomes in immunotoxicology to improve nonclinical assessments of the safety of immunomodulatory therapies. The integrated approach includes, first, the adverse outcome pathway concept established in the toxicology field, and, second, the systems medicine disease map approach for describing molecular mechanisms involved in a particular pathology. The proposed systems immunotoxicology workflow is illustrated with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell treatment as a use case.

The management of soil excavated during construction can lead to substantial environmental impact, especially in Luxembourg, where high per capita soil waste and limited landfill capacity intensify the challenge. This study employs an ad hoc spatially resolved model to assess the environmental impacts of current excavated soil management practices in Luxembourg from a life cycle perspective. It compares these impacts with alternative scenarios, where excavated soil is reproposed as substrate for nature-based solution (NbS) projects rather than backfilled.

We propose a variational wave function to represent quantum skyrmions as bosonic operators. The operator faithfully reproduces two fundamental features of quantum skyrmions: their classical magnetic order and a "quantum cloud" of local spin-flip excitations. Using exact numerical simulations of the ground states of a 2D chiral magnetic model, we find two regions in the single-skyrmion state diagram distinguished by their leading quantum corrections.

Introduction: We conducted a systematic review of clinical practice guidelines to identify red flags for serious pathologies in neck pain mentioned in clinical practice guidelines, to evaluate agreement in red flag recommendations across guidelines, and to investigate the level of evidence including what study type the recommendations are based on.
Methods: We searched for guidelines focusing on specific and nonspecific neck pain in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PEDro up to June 9, 2023. Additionally, we searched for guidelines through citation tracking strategies, by consulting experts in the field, and by checking guideline organization databases.

Previous studies have found associations between exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and cardiovascular risk factors. However, the internal dose of PAH exposure was often examined by quantifying monohydroxylated metabolites of PAHs (OH-PAHs) in urine, which can only reflect recent exposure.
