While biomonitoring approaches are frequently employed for assessing chemical exposure, many of them are constrained to a limited number of target chemicals, running counter to our current understanding of interactions within chemical mixtures and the growing evidence of multiple exposures within human populations. Although authors agree on the need for more comprehensive methodologies, literature provides insufficient evidence of the multifaceted nature of exposure and of the benefit of widening the analytical scope to improve exposure assessment. We describe a new optical diagnostic for determining the composition of gases by measuring the motion of atoms and molecules trapped within very deep optical lattices. This non-resonant method is analogous to conventional Raman scattering, except that the observed spectral features relate to the oscillatory center-of-mass motion of each species within the lattice, determined uniquely by their respective polarizability-to-mass ratio. Depending on the density of the probed sample, detection occurs either via optical scattering at the high end or via non-resonant ionization at the lower end.

Background: The assessment of gait disorders in patients with neuromotor conditions, such as cerebral palsy (CP), has been a focus of clinical and research attention, with electromyography (EMG) offering a nuanced understanding of neurological and neuromuscular disorders. However, the interpretation of EMG data in the context of gait analysis remains challenging due to the complexity of neuromotor dynamics and variability in assessment methodologies.

Research Question: To which consensus can we get in a group of experts in the fields of neurological and neuromuscular disorders, biomechanics, and clinical gait analysis to establish standardized protocols and a common language for the measurement and analysis of EMG data in gait disorders, particularly in people living with CP?

Methods: A three-round Delphi process was conducted from February to September 2023 to gather opinions of 53 experts on the use of surface EMG data during gait in the context of CP.

The precision of currents in Markov networks is bounded by dissipation via the so-called thermodynamic uncertainty relation (TUR). In our Letter, we demonstrate a similar inequality that bounds the precision of the static current response to perturbations of kinetic barriers. Perturbations of such type, which affect only the system kinetics but not the thermodynamic forces, are highly important in biochemistry and nanoelectronics.

Scope: The emergence of post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) after SARS-CoV-2 infection underscores the critical need for preparedness in addressing future post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), particularly those linked to epidemic outbreaks. The lack of standardized clinical and epidemiological data during the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly hindered timely diagnosis and effective treatment of PCC, highlighting the necessity of pre-emptively standardizing data collection in clinical studies to better define and manage future PAIS. In response, the Cohort Coordination Board, a consortium of European-funded COVID-19 research projects, has reviewed data from PCC studies conducted by its members.
