Introduction: Sexual pleasure is a central aspect of human sexuality; however, no validated measurements exist that assess sexual pleasure. We present a preliminary validation study of the psychometric properties of a Sexual Pleasure Scale (SPS), based on the three items developed by Sanchez, Crocker and Boike to measure sexual pleasure. The SPS is a brief and easy-to-implement instrument that assesses the extent of sexual pleasure experienced from sexual relationships, sexual activities, and sexual intimacy.

The main aim of the present study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Socially Desirable Response Set-5 (SDRS-5) among a forensic sample (N=324) of incarcerated male (n=221) and female (n=103) juvenile offenders. The Portuguese validation of the SDRS-5 demonstrated good psychometric properties, namely in terms of its factor structure, internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity that overall justifies its use among this population. Findings are discussed in terms of the use of the SDRS-5 with male and female juvenile offenders.

Purpose: To compare the response of the pharmaceutical industry to information requests from a hospital pharmacy and a community pharmacy regarding the inadvertent exposure of refrigerated medicines (2-8°C) to out-of-range temperatures.

Methods: A complete list of all authorised medicines labelled for refrigeration was obtained from the Portuguese Medicines Agency. A standard information request regarding cold chain disruption for refrigerated medicines was sent to pharmaceutical companies from a hospital and a community pharmacy in Portugal.

Spermatozoa undergo sequential maturation changes during their transit along the epididymis. These changes are modulated by the epididymal epithelium and require a finely tuned gene expression. The Notch cell signaling pathway is a major regulator of cell fate decisions in several tissues, including the testis.

Background: Weight loss is a public health concern in obesity-related diseases such as metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, restrictive diets might induce bone loss. The nature of exercise and whether exercise with weight loss programs can protect against potential bone mass deficits remains unclear.

The aim of the present study was to validate the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire-Short Form (BPAQ-SF) among Portuguese juvenile delinquents. With a total sample of 237 male participants, subdivided into an incarcerated forensic sample (n=192) and a community sample (n=45), the Portuguese version of the BPAQ-SF demonstrated good psychometric properties in terms of factor structure, internal consistency, convergent validity, discriminant validity, predictive validity and known-groups validity that generally justify its use among Portuguese youth. Statistically significant associations were found with drug use and alcohol abuse.

Cross-sectional and prospective associations between moderate to vigorous physical activity and sedentary time with adiposity in children.

Int J Obes (Lond)

January 2016

Centro Interdisciplinar de Estudo da Performance Humana, Faculty of Human Kinetics, Department of Sports and health, University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal.

Background: Physical activity (PA) and sedentary time (SED) have both been suggested as potential risk factors for adiposity in children. However, there is paucity of data examining the temporal associations between these variables.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the cross-sectional and prospective associations between PA, SED and body composition in children.

Department of Pathology and Molecular Immunology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, ICBAS-UPorto, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal

Background/aim: In the past decade, the human Nottingham histological grade (NHG) has been applied to canine mammary carcinomas (CMC). The Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI) enables identification of more aggressive human breast cancer. The prognostic value of grading parameters and NPI has never been detailed in CMC.

Department of Pathology and Molecular Immunology, Instituto Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal.

Histological grading of canine mammary carcinomas (CMCs) has been performed using an adaptation of the human Nottingham method. The histological grade could be a prognostic factor in CMC; however, no data are available concerning interobserver variability in grading. In this study we analyzed the interobserver reproducibility between three observers when assigning individual parameter scores and grade to 46 CMCs.

Good manufacturing practices for medicinal products for human use.

CBIOS-Research Center for Biosciences and Health Technologies, Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies, Lisbon, Portugal.

At international and national levels, there are public and private organizations, institutions and regulatory authorities, who work and cooperate between them and with Pharmaceutical Industry, in order to achieve a consensus of the guidelines and laws of the manufacturing of medicinal products for human use. This article includes an explanation of how operate and cooperate these participants, between them and expose the current regulations, following the line of European Community/European Economic Area, referencing, wherever appropriate, the practiced guidelines, outside of regulatory action of space mentioned. In this way, it is intended to achieve quality, security and effectiveness exceptional levels in the manufacturing of health products.

The use of students' "consumer feedback" to assess faculty behavior and improve the process of medical education is a significant challenge. We used quantitative Rasch measurement to analyze pre-categorized student comments listed by 385 graduating medical students. We found that students differed little with respect to the number of comments they provided and that their comments indeed form a probabilistic Rasch hierarchy.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to model developmental changes in explosive power based on the contribution of chronological age, anthropometrical characteristics, motor coordination parameters, and flexibility.

Methods: Two different longitudinal, multilevel models were obtained to predict countermovement jump (CMJ) and standing broad jump (SBJ) performance in 356 high-level, youth soccer players, age 11-14 yr at baseline. Biological maturity status was estimated (age at peak height velocity [APHV]), and variation in the development of explosive power was examined based on three maturity groups (APHV; earliest < P33, P33 < average < P66, latest > P66).

Canine mammary tumours are highly heterogeneous in morphology and behaviour and successful clinical management requires robust prognostic factors. Histological grade, determined by the Nottingham nuclear pleomorphism scoring method, has been considered one of these factors. Despite the adoption of this method, it is unknown whether inter-observer agreement exists regarding the assessment of its parameters in canine mammary carcinomas (CMC).

Coordination tendencies are shaped by attacker and defender interactions with the goal and the ball in futsal.

This study examined how the location of the goal and ball constrained the interpersonal coordination tendencies emerging of attacker-defender dyadic systems in team sports. Additionally, we analysed how the positioning of defenders constrained the emergent coordination tendencies between the ball carrier and supporting teammates. To investigate these tendencies in team sports, ten futsal games were filmed to observe inter-individual interactions.

Article Synopsis
  • Tooth resorption (TR) is a prevalent dental issue in cats, particularly affecting older cats aged 10 to 15 years, who are 6.56 times more likely to experience TR compared to younger cats (0 to 4 years).
  • A case-control study involving 71 cats examined various factors related to TR, including clinical history, the presence of gingivitis, and types of lesions through full-mouth radiographs.
  • The study found a strong link between aging and TR, with mandibular third premolars and molars primarily affected by type 1 lesions, while canine teeth showed a tendency toward type 2 lesions, which warrant further investigation.

Previous work on dynamics of interpersonal interactions in 1 vs. 1 sub-phases of basketball has identified changes in interpersonal distance between an attacker and defender as a potential control parameter for influencing organizational states of attacker-defender dyads. Other studies have reported the constraining effect of relative velocity between an attacker and defender in 1 vs.
