Electronic address:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed and the second leading cause of death of cancer among women in the world, due to inappropriate diagnosis and choice of therapeutic approach. The molecular profiles of breast cancers may switch among subtypes during treatments, leading to a phenotype such as triple negative breast cancers (TNBCs) that is more difficult to treat. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been demonstrated by many studies on its efficacy in arresting the malignancies of multiple cancer types including TNBCs that lack surface receptor expression and are thus the most difficult to treat among breast cancers.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the various factors contributing to pain in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), as the reasons for this pain are not well understood.
  • Data was collected from 250 ONFH patients, looking at demographic, clinical, radiological, psychological, and neurophysiological variables, and analyzed using hierarchical regression techniques.
  • The results indicate that both clinical (like bone marrow edema) and psychological factors (such as anxiety and pain catastrophizing) significantly impact pain severity, collectively explaining nearly 70% of the pain variance, which suggests the need for personalized pain management strategies.

Department of Orthopaedics, Shanghai Key Laboratory for Prevention and Treatment of Bone and Joint Diseases, Shanghai Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 197 Ruijin 2nd Road, Shanghai, 200025, P. R. China.

Monocytes, as progenitors of macrophages and osteoclasts, play critical roles in various stages of bone repair, necessitating phase-specific regulatory mechanisms. Here, icariin (ICA) prodrug-like microspheres (ICA@GM) are developed, as lipid nanoparticle (LNP) transfection boosters, to construct mRNA-engineered monocytes for remodeling the bone microenvironment across multiple stages, including the acute inflammatory and repair phases. Initially, ICA@GM is prepared from ICA-conjugated gelatin methacryloyl via a microfluidics system.

In this study, we investigated whether the ability of aucubin to mitigate the pathology of GONFH involves suppression of TLR4/NF-κB signalling and promotion of macrophage polarization to an M2 phenotype. In necrotic bone tissues from GONFH patients, we compared levels of pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages and anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages as well as levels of TLR4/NF-κB signalling. In a rat model of GONFH, we examined the effects of aucubin on these parameters.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are often associated with dysregulated gut microbiota and excessive inflammatory microenvironment. Probiotic therapy combined with inflammation management is a promising approach to alleviate IBD, but the efficacy is hindered by the inferior colonization of probiotics in mucus-depleted inflammatory bowel segments. Here, we present modified montmorillonite armed probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (MMT-Fe@EcN) with enhanced intestinal colonization and hydrogen sulfide (HS) scavenging for synergistic alleviation of IBD.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) severely affects the work and the quality of life of people. We previously demonstrated that silencing activation transcription factor 3 (ATF3) blocked the IVDD pathological process by regulating nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) ferroptosis, apoptosis, inflammation, and extracellular matrix (ECM) metabolism. Nevertheless, whether miR-874-3p mediated the IVDD pathological process by targeting ATF3 remains unclear.
