Wound healing is a challenging due to the presence of bacterial infection, excessive inflammation and angiogenesis disorders. While traditional therapies struggle, a functional hydrogel can effectively repair wounds. However, the use of hydrogels is limited due to their high swelling and excessive dehydration characteristics.

Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) is a major pathological marker of Parkinson's disease (PD), and its abnormal expression and aggregation lead to dopaminergic neuron degeneration, in which oxidative stress plays an important role. However, the exact molecular mechanism by which α-syn causes PD remains unclear. In this study, exogenous α-syn, also known as α-syn preformed fibrils (α-syn PFFs), was used to construct in vivo and in vitro models of PD.

Osteosarcoma, a predominant malignant tumor among adolescents, exhibits high mortality and suboptimal immunotherapy efficacy due to a collagen-dense extracellular matrix (ECM) that hinders cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) infiltration. Herein, we developed mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) nanoparticles encapsulating bromelain and the immune adjuvant R848 (M@B/R), aimed at enhancing photothermal immunotherapy. These nanoparticles efficiently accumulate at the tumor site following injection.

Introduction: Changes in the mechanical properties of the gastrocnemius muscle-tendon unit can lead to abnormal biomechanics of lower limbs, which is a risk factor for the development of many diseases. However, fewer studies have explored physiological changes in the gastrocnemius muscle-tendon unit stiffness. This study aimed to investigate the age- and sex-related differences in the gastrocnemius muscle-tendon unit stiffness.

National Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Precision Surgery & Regenerative Medicine, Shaanxi Provincial Center for Regenerative Medicine and Surgical Engineering, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, 710061, China. Electronic address:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed and the second leading cause of death of cancer among women in the world, due to inappropriate diagnosis and choice of therapeutic approach. The molecular profiles of breast cancers may switch among subtypes during treatments, leading to a phenotype such as triple negative breast cancers (TNBCs) that is more difficult to treat. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been demonstrated by many studies on its efficacy in arresting the malignancies of multiple cancer types including TNBCs that lack surface receptor expression and are thus the most difficult to treat among breast cancers.

This study aims to establish a time-resolved fluorescence immunochromatography method for simultaneous determination of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 E6 and L1 protein concentrations. The amount of lanthanide microsphere-labeled antibodies, the concentration of coated antibodies, and the reaction time were optimized, and then a test strip for the simultaneous determination of the protein concentrations was prepared. The performance of the detection method was evaluated based on the concordance of the results from clinical practice.

Background: Cell death plays an essential role in carcinogenesis, but its function in the recurrence and postoperative prognosis of head and neck cancer (HNC), which ranks as the 7 most common malignancy globally, remains unclear.

Methods: Data from five main subtypes of HNC related single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) were recruited to establish a single-cell atlas, and the distribution of cell death models (CDMs) across different tissues as well as cell subtypes were analyzed. Bulk RNA-seq from the Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) dataset was subjected to a machine learning-based integrative procedure for constructing a consensus cell death-related signature risk score (CDRscore) model and validated by external data.

Ficolin-1 ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis via directly binding to TGF-β1.

J Transl Med

November 2024

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Clinical Medicine, Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang, Henan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ficolins are proteins linked to immune system function and are being studied in relation to interstitial lung diseases, particularly focusing on ficolin-1's unclear role in pulmonary fibrosis.
  • - Research found that ficolin-1 levels are lower in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD), and in a mouse model, lack of ficolin-B worsened lung damage while overproduction helped protect against it.
  • - Ficolin-1 directly interacts with TGF-β1, a key factor in fibrosis, suggesting that targeting ficolin-1 could provide new therapeutic options for treating lung fibrosis.

  • This study investigates the various factors contributing to pain in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), as the reasons for this pain are not well understood.
  • Data was collected from 250 ONFH patients, looking at demographic, clinical, radiological, psychological, and neurophysiological variables, and analyzed using hierarchical regression techniques.
  • The results indicate that both clinical (like bone marrow edema) and psychological factors (such as anxiety and pain catastrophizing) significantly impact pain severity, collectively explaining nearly 70% of the pain variance, which suggests the need for personalized pain management strategies.
