Poor psychological health and 8-year mortality: a population-based prospective cohort study stratified by gender in Scania, Sweden.

Objectives: We investigated gender differences in the association between mortality and general psychological distress (measured by 12-item General Health Questionnaire, GHQ-12), as an increased mortality risk has been shown in community studies, but gender differences are largely unknown.

Setting: We used data from a cross-sectional population-based public health survey conducted in 2008 in the Swedish region of Skåne (Scania) of people 18-80 years old (response rate 54.1 %).

Extended local release and improved bacterial eradication by adding rifampicin to a biphasic ceramic carrier containing gentamicin or vancomycin.

Aims: There is a lack of biomaterial-based carriers for the local delivery of rifampicin (RIF), one of the cornerstone second defence antibiotics for bone infections. RIF is also known for causing rapid development of antibiotic resistance when given as monotherapy. This in vitro study evaluated a clinically used biphasic calcium sulphate/hydroxyapatite (CaS/HA) biomaterial as a carrier for dual delivery of RIF with vancomycin (VAN) or gentamicin (GEN).

22nd meeting of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO 2021) report.

This is a report from the 22nd Meeting of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, held October 23-25, 2021. The 3-day event offered an educational experience covering the major scientific and clinical advances in gynecological oncology. The Congress program included different session formats, including guidelines updates and state-of-the-art lectures.

Perceived usefulness of trauma audit filters in urban India: a mixed-methods multicentre Delphi study comparing filters from the WHO and low and middle-income countries.

Objective: To compare experts' perceived usefulness of audit filters from Ghana, Cameroon, WHO and those locally developed; generate context-appropriate audit filters for trauma care in selected hospitals in urban India; and explore characteristics of audit filters that correlate to perceived usefulness.

Design: A mixed-methods approach using a multicentre online Delphi technique.

Setting: Two large tertiary hospitals in urban India.

Similar distribution of pelvic sentinel lymph nodes and nodal metastases in cervical and endometrial cancer. A prospective study based on lymphatic anatomy.

Objective: Comparing the anatomical distribution of metastatic and non-metastatic pelvic sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in cervical and endometrial cancer.

Methods: Detailed SLN mapping results were prospectively retrieved in cervical (n = 145) or high-risk endometrial cancer (n = 201) patients undergoing a robotic staging procedure. Cervically injected Indocyanine Green (ICG), allowing for reinjection in case of inadequate mapping, was used as tracer.

Cerebrovascular Reserve Capacity as a Predictor of Postoperative Delirium: A Pilot Study.

Postoperative delirium is a common complication after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Compromised regulation of the cerebral circulation may be a predisposing factor for delirium. However, the potential relationship between cerebrovascular reserve capacity and delirium is unknown.

Long term oncologic and reproductive outcomes after robot-assisted radical trachelectomy for early-stage cervical cancer. An international multicenter study.

Objectives: Long term outcomes following fertility sparing robot-assisted radical trachelectomy (RRT).

Methods: A retrospective study of consecutive women selected for RRT between 2007 and 2019 at five referral centres. Generally used selection criteria for fertility-sparing surgery were applied.

Total, hemi, or dual-mobility arthroplasty for the treatment of femoral neck fractures in patients with neurological disease : analysis of 9,638 patients from the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the potentially increased risk of dislocation in patients with neurological disease who sustain a femoral neck fracture, as it is unclear whether they should undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA) or hemiarthroplasty (HA). A secondary aim was to investgate whether dual-mobility components confer a reduced risk of dislocation in these patients.

Methods: We undertook a longitudinal cohort study linking the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register with the National Patient Register, including patients with a neurological disease presenting with a femoral neck fracture and treated with HA, a conventional THA (cTHA) with femoral head size of ≤ 32 mm, or a dual-mobility component THA (DMC-THA) between 2005 and 2014.

Objectives: To evaluate quality of life (QoL) and long-term clinical outcome following robot-assisted radical trachelectomy (RRT).

Study Design: Prospectively retrieved clinical data were rereviewed on all women planned for a fertility sparing RRT for early stage cervical cancer at Skåne University Hospital, Sweden between 2007 and 2020.

Resection of the upper paracervical lymphovascular tissue should be an integral part of a pelvic sentinel lymph node algorithm in early stage cervical cancer.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of lymph nodes and lymph node metastases (LNMs) in the upper paracervical lymphovascular tissue (UPLT) in early stage cervical cancer.

Methods: In this prospective study consecutive women with stage IA1-IB1 cervical cancer underwent a pelvic lymphadenectomy including identification of sentinel nodes (SLNs) as part of a nodal staging procedure in conjunction with a robotic radical hysterectomy (RRH) or robotic radical trachelectomy (RRT). Indocyanine green (ICG) was used as tracer.

A combination of second trimester oral metronidazole and no sexual intercourse during second and third trimester may reduce late miscarriage and premature delivery after fertility sparing radical trachelectomy.

Objectives: Women with a previous trachelectomy have an increased risk of premature delivery and second trimester miscarriage. In this study we aim to evaluate factors and regimes possibly affecting the risk for prematurity following fertility sparing robotic radical trachelectomy (RRT) in cervical cancer.

Impact of incomplete surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy for the intraoperative rupture of capsulated stage I epithelial ovarian cancer: a multi-institutional study with an in-depth subgroup analysis.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of incomplete surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy on the prognosis of patients with intraoperative rupture of capsulated stage I epithelial ovarian cancer (OvCa).

Methods: A regional retrospective study was conducted between 1986 and 2019. Among 4,730 patients with malignant ovarian tumors, 534 women with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IA and IC1 epithelial OvCa were eligible.

Everyday life in a Swedish nursing home during the COVID-19 pandemic: a qualitative interview study with persons 85 to 100 years.

Objective: To understand and report on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the everyday lives of frail older persons living in nursing homes by exploring their experiences of how the pandemic-related restrictions had influenced them and in what way.

Design: Empirical qualitative interview study.

Setting: A publicly run nursing home in an urban area in Sweden in June 2020.

Development of a surgical competency assessment tool for sentinel lymph node dissection by minimally invasive surgery for endometrial cancer.

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node dissection is widely used in the staging of endometrial cancer. Variation in surgical techniques potentially impacts diagnostic accuracy and oncologic outcomes, and poses barriers to the comparison of outcomes across institutions or clinical trial sites. Standardization of surgical technique and surgical quality assessment tools are critical to the conduct of clinical trials.

Increased Institutional Surgical Experience in Robot-Assisted Radical Hysterectomy for Early Stage Cervical Cancer Reduces Recurrence Rate: Results from a Nationwide Study.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of institutional surgical experience on recurrence following robotic radical hysterectomy (RRH) for early stage cervical cancer. All women in Sweden who underwent an RRH for stage IA2-IB1 cervical cancer at tertiary referral centers from its implementation in December 2005 until June 2017 were identified using a Swedish nationwide register and local hospital registers. Registry data were controlled by a chart review of all women.

Sustainable care for children with cancer: a Lancet Oncology Commission.

We estimate that there will be 13·7 million new cases of childhood cancer globally between 2020 and 2050. At current levels of health system performance (including access and referral), 6·1 million (44·9%) of these children will be undiagnosed. Between 2020 and 2050, 11·1 million children will die from cancer if no additional investments are made to improve access to health-care services or childhood cancer treatment.

Combining Indocyanine Green and Tc-nanocolloid does not increase the detection rate of sentinel lymph nodes in early stage cervical cancer compared to Indocyanine Green alone.

Objective: To investigate whether combining two independent tracers increases the SLN-detection rate in cervical cancer.

Methods: Consecutive women with early stage cervical cancer planned for a robotic radical hysterectomy or a robotic radical trachelectomy with sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection were included. After cervical injections of Indocyanine green (ICG) and Tc-nanocolloid (Tc), near-infrared fluorescence imaging and a gamma probe were used to identify SLNs in the upper and lower paracervical pathways (UPP/LPP).

Workload and cross-harvest kidney injury in a Nicaraguan sugarcane worker cohort.

Objectives: To examine the association between workload and kidney injury in a fieldworker cohort with different levels of physically demanding work over a sugarcane harvest, and to assess whether the existing heat prevention efforts at a leading occupational safety and health programme are sufficient to mitigate kidney injury.

Methods: Biological and questionnaire data were collected before (n=545) and at the end (n=427) of harvest among field support staff (low workload), drip irrigation workers (moderate), seed cutters (high) and burned sugarcane cutters (very high). Dropouts were contacted (87%) and reported the reason for leaving work.

The rate and perioperative mortality of caesarean section in Sierra Leone.

Introduction: Sierra Leone has the world's highest maternal mortality, partly due to low access to caesarean section. Limited data are available to guide improvement. In this study, we aimed to analyse the rate and mortality of caesarean sections in the country.
