Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effectiveness and safety of medication abortion using mifepristone and misoprostol in women up to 42 days of gestation without confirmed intrauterine pregnancy using ultrasound.
  • A total of 1504 women were randomly assigned to either an early-start abortion group or a standard delayed care group, and the primary outcome measured was the rate of complete abortion.
  • The results showed a nearly identical rate of complete abortion between the two groups (95.2% early-start vs 95.3% standard), indicating that starting medication abortion before confirming intrauterine pregnancy is as safe and effective as standard care.

Background: Impulse control disorders (ICDs) are known psychiatric conditions in Parkinson's disease (PD), especially as a side effect of antiparkinsonian therapy. Screening for vulnerable patients and avoiding high-risk treatments can be an effective approach to reduce the ICD burden in patients with PD. Thus, our goal was to identify risk factors for ICDs in PD in the Swedish total population.

Introduction: Severe osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a debilitating disease with no cure or sufficiently effective treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have good safety profile, show promising effects and can form bone. The Boost Brittle Bones Before Birth (BOOSTB4) trial evaluates administration of allogeneic expanded human first trimester fetal liver MSCs (BOOST cells) for OI type 3 or severe type 4.

Background: Adding ibrutinib to standard immunochemotherapy might improve outcomes and challenge autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) in younger (aged 65 years or younger) mantle cell lymphoma patients. This trial aimed to investigate whether the addition of ibrutinib results in a superior clinical outcome compared with the pre-trial immunochemotherapy standard with ASCT or an ibrutinib-containing treatment without ASCT. We also investigated whether standard treatment with ASCT is superior to a treatment adding ibrutinib but without ASCT.

Introduction: Mild traumatic brain injury is common in children and it can be challenging to accurately identify those in need of urgent medical intervention. The Scandinavian guidelines for management of minor and moderate head trauma in children, the Scandinavian Neurotrauma Committee guideline 2016 (SNC16), were developed to aid in risk stratification and decision-making in Scandinavian emergency departments (EDs). This guideline has been validated externally with encouraging results, but internal validation in the intended healthcare system is warranted prior to broad clinical implementation.

Background/aims: Anterior segment ischaemia (ASI) is a rare but serious complication of strabismus surgery, which may be caused by damage to the anterior ciliary arteries that run along the rectus muscles. To avoid ASI, clinical praxis is to operate on a maximum of two rectus muscles at a time. The aim of this study was to perform a detailed study of the contribution of the four ocular rectus muscles to the perfusion of the anterior segment using laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI).

Introduction: Modern systemic treatment has reduced incidence of regional recurrences and improved survival in breast cancer (BC). It is thus questionable whether regional radiotherapy (RT) is still beneficial in patients with sentinel lymph node (SLN) macrometastasis. Postoperative regional RT is associated with an increased risk of arm morbidity, pneumonitis, cardiac disease and secondary cancer.
