Cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) are complex N-glycans shared among allergens of plant, insect venom, and nematode origin. In allergic humans, IgE anti-CCD often develop and cause discrepancies between serological and skin tests. Overall, CCD-IgE are believed to be of low pathogenic relevance.

Atherosclerosis and its sequels, such as coronary artery disease and cerebrovascular stroke, still represent global health burdens. The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis consists of growing calcified plaques in the arterial wall and is accompanied by inflammatory processes, which are not entirely understood. This study aims to evaluate the effect of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) using Y- and Lu-DOTATATE on atherosclerotic plaque inflammation.

Nested sampling (NS) is a stochastic method for computing the log-evidence of a Bayesian problem. It relies on stochastic estimates of prior volumes enclosed by likelihood contours, which limits the accuracy of the log-evidence calculation. We propose to transform the prior volume estimation into a Bayesian inference problem, which allows us to incorporate a smoothness assumption for likelihood-prior-volume relations.

Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor, primarily affecting children and young adults. For these young patients, the current treatment options for osteosarcoma impose considerable constraints on daily life with significant morbidity and a low survival rate. Despite ongoing research efforts, the 5-year survival rate of first-diagnosed patients without metastases has not changed in the past four decades.

Cationic polymers are known to efficiently deliver nucleic acids to target cells by encapsulating the cargo into nanoparticles. However, the molecular organization of these nanoparticles is often not fully explored. Yet, this information is crucial to understand complex particle systems and the role influencing factors play at later stages of drug development.

Background: Pathogenic variants in the nonmuscle myosin, MYH14, have been associated with several pathologic conditions including a complex phenotype with peripheral neuropathy, myopathy, hoarseness, and hearing loss. Since its first description in a large Korean kindred, this rare neuromuscular disorder has further been characterized in 1 American and 1 Canadian pedigree.
Case Presentation: Here, we describe a German patient with atypical MYH14-related neuromuscular disorder.

Self-replicating molecules and well-defined folded macromolecules are of great significance in the emergence and evolution of life. How they may interconnect and affect each other remains largely elusive. Here, we demonstrate an abiotic system where a single building block can oligomerize to yield either a self-replicating molecule or a foldamer.

Background: Critical illness survivors frequently suffer from long-term impairments, often described as post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). PICS encompasses physical, cognitive, and mental impairments. Additionally, the term intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness (ICUAW) was coined for muscle weakness after critical illness.

Objective: Primary stapes surgery is considered a challenging intervention in ear surgery. Despite an risk of deafness in 0.5-1 percent, this procedure has still a good benefit-risk ratio due to the improvement in hearing and quality of life that is usually achieved.

Introduction: Treatment with nonresorbable antibiotics is effective in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Multimatrix (MMX) formulations ensure targeted drug delivery to the mid-distal small bowel and colon-traditionally considered the origin of IBS symptoms. To assess the efficacy of rifamycin SV-MMX for the treatment of IBS-D.

We introduce phonon state tomography (PST) as a diagnostic probe of electron dynamics in solids whose phonons are optically excited by a laser pulse at initial time. Using a projected-purified matrix-product states algorithm, PST decomposes the exact correlated electron-phonon wavefunction into contributions from purely electronic states corresponding to statistically typical configurations of the optically accessible phononic response, enabling a "tomographic" reconstruction of the electronic dynamics generated by the phonons. Thus, PST may be used to diagnose electronic behavior in experiments that access only the phonon response, such as thermal diffuse X-ray and electron scattering.

Despite being anucleated cell fragments, platelets are now widely recognized for their multifaceted abilities. Not only do they form blood clots to prevent bleeding after injury, but they also fight infections and maintain vascular integrity during inflammatory diseases. While hemostatic plugs require the collective activation and aggregation of platelets, their role in protecting inflamed blood vessels is performed at the single-cell level.

Background: After pylorus-resecting pancreatoduodenectomy (PrPD), delayed gastric emptying (DGE) might partially be attributed to biliary reflux. We investigated whether the incidence of primary DGE is reduced after Roux-en-Y instead of Billroth-II reconstruction.

Objective: To identify the COVID-19 pandemic impact on well-being/mental health, coping strategies, and risk factors in adolescents worldwide.
Method: This study was based on an anonymous online multi-national/multi-language survey in the general population (representative/weighted non-representative samples, 14-17 years of age), measuring change in well-being (World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index [WHO-5]/range = 0-100) and psychopathology (validated composite P-score/range = 0-100), WHO-5 <50 and <29, pre- vs during COVID-19 pandemic (April 26, 2020-June 26, 2022). Coping strategies and 9 a priori- defined individual/cumulative risk factors were measured.

Introduction: Women's groups have emerged as an essential platform for implementing violence prevention interventions across diverse settings because they can serve as a powerful catalyst for promoting gender equality, empowering women, and providing a safe space for them. Given the limited empirical evidence on the impact of women's informal group participation on male-perpetrated intimate partner violence, this longitudinal study examines how such participation influences women's experiences of physical, emotional, sexual, and economic IPV in Mwanza, Tanzania.
Methods: Data from four waves of the MAISHA study, which followed up the control groups (n = 1122) of the two MAISHA trials, were analysed.

Self-assembly presents a remarkable approach for creating intricate structures by positioning nanomaterials in precise locations, with control over molecular interactions. For example, material arrays with interplanar distances similar to the wavelength of light can generate structural color through complex interactions like scattering, diffraction, and interference. Moreover, enzymes, plasmonic nanoparticles, and luminescent materials organized in periodic lattices are envisioned to create functional materials with various applications.
