Susceptibility to emotional contagion is defined as the disposition of how susceptible someone is to catch others' emotions and it has long been studied in research on mental health, well-being, and social interaction. Given that existing self-report measures of susceptibility to emotional contagion have focused almost exclusively on negative emotions, we developed a self-report measure to assess the susceptibility to emotional contagion of both positive and negative emotions (2 scales). In two studies, we examined their factor structure, validity, and reliability using exploratory factor analysis (Study 1, N = 257), confirmatory factor analysis (Study 2, N = 247) and correlations.

Ferroptosis is a regulated cell death modality triggered by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Ferroptosis plays a causal role in the pathophysiology of various diseases, making it a promising therapeutic target. Unlike all other cell death modalities dependent on distinct signaling cues, ferroptosis occurs when cellular antioxidative defense mechanisms fail to suppress the oxidative destruction of cellular membranes, eventually leading to cell membrane rupture.

Loss of CREBBP and KMT2D cooperate to accelerate lymphomagenesis and shape the lymphoma immune microenvironment.

Nat Commun

April 2024

Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University, New York, NY, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • CREBBP and KMT2D are important genes that, when mutated together, can lead to more serious lymphomas in mice compared to when either gene is mutated alone.
  • These mutations create an environment where T-cells, which are important for fighting off infections and cancer, become tired and fail to function properly.
  • The study discovered that the mutations affect how the immune system interacts with lymphoma cells, showing that these gene changes work together to help cancer grow.

Regulation of energy metabolism through central GIPR signaling.

Peptides

June 2024

Institute for Diabetes and Obesity, Helmholtz Diabetes Center, Helmholtz Munich, Neuherberg, Germany; German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD), Neuherberg, Germany; Walther-Straub Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich, Munich, Germany. Electronic address:

In recent years, significant progress has been made to pharmacologically combat the obesity pandemic, particularly with regard to biochemically tailored drugs that simultaneously target the receptors for glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). But while the pharmacological benefits of GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonism are widely acknowledged, the role of the GIP system in regulating systems metabolism remains controversial. When given in adjunct to GLP-1R agonism, both agonism and antagonism of the GIP receptor (GIPR) improves metabolic outcome in preclinical and clinical studies, and despite persistent concerns about its potential obesogenic nature, there is accumulating evidence indicating that GIP has beneficial metabolic effects via central GIPR agonism.

Objective: The gold standard of oral cancer (OC) treatment is diagnostic confirmation by biopsy followed by surgical treatment. However, studies have shown that dentists have difficulty performing biopsies, dental students lack knowledge about OC, and surgeons do not always maintain a safe margin during tumor resection. To address this, biopsies and resections could be trained under realistic conditions outside the patient.
