Introduction: People with severe mental illness have poor cardiometabolic health. Commonly used antidepressants and antipsychotics frequently lead to weight gain, which may further contribute to adverse cardiovascular outcomes.
Areas Covered: We searched MEDLINE up to April 2023 for umbrella reviews, (network-)meta-analyses, trials and cohort studies on risk factors, prevention and treatment strategies of weight gain associated with antidepressants/antipsychotics.

Background: Tebentafusp is a novel treatment for patients with metastatic uveal melanoma and often causes cutaneous side effects.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to better characterize these heterogenous cutaneous side effects.
Methods: This prospective cohort study evaluated all patients from a tertiary hospital center who were treated with tebentafusp between January 2019 and June 2023 clinically and assessed skin biopsies histologically.

To further explore the role of different antipsychotic treatments for cardio-cerebrovascular mortality, we performed several subgroup, sensitivity and meta-regression analyses based on a large previous meta-analysis focusing on cohort studies assessing mortality relative risk (RR) for cardio-cerebrovascular disorders in people with schizophrenia, comparing antipsychotic treatment versus no antipsychotic. Quality assessment through the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and publication bias was measured. We meta-analyzed 53 different studies (schizophrenia patients: n = 2,513,359; controls: n = 360,504,484) to highlight the differential effects of antipsychotic treatment regimens on cardio-cerebrovascular-related mortality in incident and prevalent samples of patients with schizophrenia.

Background: Neurolymphomatosis refers to infiltration of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) by non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Diagnostic intervals in neurolymphomatosis and factors delaying diagnosis have not been evaluated. We therefore aimed to analyze diagnostic intervals in a large cohort.

Chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy has been established in the treatment of various B cell malignancies. However, translating this therapeutic effect to treat solid tumors has been challenging because of their inter-tumoral as well as intratumoral heterogeneity and immunosuppressive microenvironment. Local interventions, such as surgery, radiotherapy, local ablation, and locoregional drug delivery, can enhance chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy in solid tumors by improving tumor infiltration and reducing systemic toxicities.

Background And Hypothesis: Cognition has been associated with socio-occupational functioning in individuals at Clinical High Risk for Psychosis (CHR-P). The present study hypothesized that clustering CHR-P participants based on cognitive data could reveal clinically meaningful subtypes.
Study Design: A cohort of 291 CHR-P subjects was recruited through the multicentre EU-GEI high-risk study.

The burial of metals in hoards is a trademark phenomenon of prehistoric Europe that may be counterintuitive to perceptions of value nowadays. For the first time here, we establish detailed biographies of a large corpus of hoarded metal objects, providing new insights into how societies in the second millennium BC engaged with their convertible material wealth. We move beyond previous research on prehistoric hoarding commonly focussing on separate questions such as what was placed in hoards, who selected the objects, what were the origins of materials, and where and when they were buried.

Background: Research on depression showed that dysregulations in tryptophan (TRP), kynurenine (KYN), and its KYN pathway metabolites are key aspects in the development and maintenance of depressive symptoms. In our previous reports, we described sex-specific changes in TRP breakdown as well as changes in KYN and KYN/TRP in association with treatment response and inflammatory and metabolic parameters. However, results of treatment effects on KYN pathway metabolites as well as how pathway changes are related to treatment response remain sparse.

This commentary contextualises these impacts against the background of human suffering produced by the overwhelming violence associated with the use of military force against the general population of Gaza. In calling for an immediate cessation to the violence, the authors draw attention to the urgent need to rebuild the health care system and restore the physical and human infrastructure that makes a liveable environment possible and promotes human health and well-being, especially for the most vulnerable in the population.

Introduction: Recent clinical studies confirmed that whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) training is a safe and time-efficient therapeutic method for patients with nonspecific chronic back pain (NSCBP). However, significant variations in initial pain intensity among subjects in these studies have been observed. This study aims to determine if patients with differing initial pain intensities experience varying degrees of benefit from WB-EMS and to assess the overall correlation between initial pain levels and pain reduction.

Background: Conditioning regimens and the choice of immunosuppression have substantial impact on immune reconstitution after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT). The pivotal mechanism to maintain remission is the induction of the graft-versus-tumor effect. Relapse as well as graft versus host disease remain common.

Rationale: Meta-analyses of case series of non-arteritic central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) indicate beneficial effects of intravenous thrombolysis when initiated early after symptom onset. Randomized data are lacking to address this question.
Aims: The REperfusion therapy with intravenous alteplase for recovery of VISION in acute central retinal artery occlusion (REVISION) investigates intravenous alteplase within 4.

While the establishment of an ovarian cancer biobank from patient-derived organoids along with their clinical background information promises advances in research and patient care, standardization remains a challenge due to the heterogeneity of this lethal malignancy, combined with the inherent complexity of organoid technology. This adaptable protocol provides a systematic framework to realize the full potential of ovarian cancer organoids considering a patient-specific variability of progenitors. By implementing a structured experimental workflow to select optimal culture conditions and seeding methods, with parallel testing of direct 3D seeding versus a 2D/3D route, we obtain, in most cases, robust long-term expanding lines suitable for a broad range of downstream applications.

People with schizophrenia die prematurely, yet regional differences are unclear. PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review/random-effects meta-analysis of cohort studies assessing mortality relative risk (RR) versus any control group, and moderators, in people with ICD/DSM-defined schizophrenia, comparing countries and continents. We conducted subgroup, meta-regression analyses, and quality assessment.

Background: To date, there is no consensus on indicators for the evaluation of integrated community-based interventions for health promotion and prevention targeting children and adolescents. This study aims at consenting on a scoped set of indicators to evaluate integrated community-based interventions.
Methods: Out of 738 indicators derived from a literature search, we preselected 94 indicators allotted to 20 domains based on an internal quality appraisal and consensus process and conducted an eDelphi procedure to assess their relevance in view of experts.

Pathogenic variants in , encoding the α chain of type IV collagen, have been associated with cerebrovascular pathology as well as malformations of cortical development, thereby causing structural epilepsy. This case illustrates successful resective epilepsy surgery in a 12-month-old girl with left occipital focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) associated with a heterozygous splice-donor variant in . She presented with drug-resistant focal epilepsy with daily seizures from the age of 2 months, refractory to several combinations of antiseizure medications, as well as mild right-sided hemiparesis and developmental delay.
