Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are well-known cardiovascular and mortality risk factors. To what extent they act in an additive manner and whether the etiology of CKD modifies the risk is uncertain.

Methods: The multicenter, prospective, observational German Chronic Kidney Disease study comprises 5217 participants (1868 with DM) with a baseline mean estimated glomerular filtration rate of 30-60 mL/min/1.

Integration of simulation-based education in anaesthesiology specialist training: Synthesis of results from an Utstein Meeting.

Background: Despite its importance in education and patient safety, simulation-based education and training (SBET) is only partially or poorly implemented in many countries, including most European countries. The provision of a roadmap may contribute to the development of SBET for the training of anaesthesiologists.

Objective: To develop a global agenda for the integration of simulation into anaesthesiology specialist training; identify the learning domains and objectives that are best achieved through SBET; and to provide examples of simulation modalities and evaluation methods for these learning objectives.

Purpose: Evaluating patients and treatment decisions in a multidisciplinary tumor board has led to better quality of care and longer survival in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate tumor board recommendations for thoracic oncology patients regarding guideline adherence and transferal of recommendations into clinical practice.

Methods: We evaluated tumor board recommendations of the thoracic oncology tumor board at Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) Hospital Munich between 2014 and 2016.

Background: MAGT1 (magnesium transporter 1) is a subunit of the oligosaccharide protein complex with thiol-disulfide oxidoreductase activity, supporting the process of N-glycosylation. MAGT1 deficiency was detected in human patients with X-linked immunodeficiency with magnesium defect syndrome and congenital disorders of glycosylation, resulting in decreased cation responses in lymphocytes, thereby inhibiting the immune response against viral infections. Curative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation of patients with X-linked immunodeficiency with magnesium defect causes fatal bleeding and thrombotic complications.

Facilitators and Barriers to Implementation of Simulation Based Education in Vascular Surgery in Europe.

Objective: This study explored the status and availability of simulation based education (SBE) for learning vascular surgical procedures identified in the 2019 General Needs Assessment in vascular surgery in Europe (GNA-2019) and identified facilitators and barriers to SBE implementation in vascular surgery.

Purpose: To describe the transaxillary branch-to-branch-to-branch carotid catheterization technique (tranaxillary 3BRA-CCE IT) for cannulation of all supra-aortic vessels using only 1 femoral and 1 axillary access during triple-branch arch repair.

Technique: After deployment of the triple-branch arch device, catheterization and bridging of the innominate artery (IA) should be performed through a right axillary access (cutdown or percutaneous). Then, the retrograde left subclavian (LSA) branch should be catheterized (if not preloaded) from a percutaneous femoral access, and a 12×90Fr sheath should be advanced to the outside of the endograft.
