Emotion dysregulation has long been considered a key symptom in multiple psychiatric disorders. Difficulties in emotion regulation have been associated with neural dysregulation in fronto-limbic circuits. Real-time fMRI-based neurofeedback (rt-fMRI-NFB) has become increasingly popular as a potential treatment for emotional dysregulation in psychiatric disorders, as it is able to directly target the impaired neural circuits.

The objective of the study was to characterize the mRNA expression patterns of specific steroid hormone receptors namely, estrogen receptors (ESRRA-estrogen related receptor alpha and ESRRB-estrogen related receptor beta) and progesterone receptors (PGR) in superovulation-induced bovine follicles during the periovulation and subsequent corpus luteum (CL) formation. The bovine ovaries (n = 5 cow / group), containing preovulatory follicles or early CL, were collected relative to injection of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) at (I) 0 h, (II) 4 h, (III) 10 h, (IV) 20 h, (V) 25 h (preovulatory follicles) and (VI) 60 h (CL, 2-3 days after induced ovulation). In this experiment, we analyzed the steroid receptor mRNA expression and their localization in the follicle and CL tissue.

Unlabelled: strains exhibit varying associations with atopic dermatitis (AD), but the genetic determinants underpinning the pathogenicity are yet to be fully characterized. To reveal the genetic differences between strains from AD patients and healthy individuals (HE), we developed and employed a random forest classifier to identify potential marker genes responsible for their phenotypic variations. The classifier was able to effectively distinguish strains from AD and HE.

Background: There is increasing evidence that myosteatosis, which is currently not assessed in clinical routine, plays an important role in risk estimation in individuals with impaired glucose metabolism, as it is associated with the progression of insulin resistance. With advances in artificial intelligence, automated and accurate algorithms have become feasible to fill this gap.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we developed and tested a fully automated deep learning model using data from two prospective cohort studies (German National Cohort [NAKO] and Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg [KORA]) to quantify myosteatosis on whole-body T1-weighted Dixon magnetic resonance imaging as (1) intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT; the current standard) and (2) quantitative skeletal muscle (SM) fat fraction (SMFF).

Lasting thalamus volume reduction after preterm birth is a prominent finding. However, whether thalamic nuclei volumes are affected differentially by preterm birth and whether nuclei aberrations are relevant for cognitive functioning remains unknown. Using T1-weighted MR-images of 83 adults born very preterm (≤ 32 weeks' gestation; VP) and/or with very low body weight (≤ 1,500 g; VLBW) as well as of 92 full-term born (≥ 37 weeks' gestation) controls, we compared thalamic nuclei volumes of six subregions (anterior, lateral, ventral, intralaminar, medial, and pulvinar) across groups at the age of 26 years.

3D bioprinting is a tissue engineering approach using additive manufacturing to fabricate tissue equivalents for regenerative medicine or medical drug testing. For this purpose, biomaterials that provide the essential microenvironment to support the viability of cells integrated directly or seeded after printing are processed into three-dimensional (3D) structures. Compared to extrusion-based 3D printing, which is most commonly used in bioprinting, stereolithography (SLA) offers a higher printing resolution and faster processing speeds with a wide range of cell-friendly materials such as gelatin- or collagen-based hydrogels and SLA is, therefore, well suited to generate 3D tissue constructs.

Biogenic amines are signaling molecules with multiple roles in the central nervous system and in peripheral organs, including the gonads. A series of studies indicated that these molecules, their biosynthetic enzymes and their receptors are present in the testis and that they are involved in the regulation of male reproductive physiology and/or pathology. This mini-review aims to summarize the current knowledge in this field and to pinpoint existing research gaps.

Clinical decision-making is one of the most impactful parts of a physician's responsibilities and stands to benefit greatly from artificial intelligence solutions and large language models (LLMs) in particular. However, while LLMs have achieved excellent performance on medical licensing exams, these tests fail to assess many skills necessary for deployment in a realistic clinical decision-making environment, including gathering information, adhering to guidelines, and integrating into clinical workflows. Here we have created a curated dataset based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care database spanning 2,400 real patient cases and four common abdominal pathologies as well as a framework to simulate a realistic clinical setting.

Special attention is given to cow's milk and its variants, with ongoing discussions about health-related impacts primarily focusing on the A1 variant in contrast to the A2 variant. The difference between these variants lies in a single amino acid alteration at position 67 of β-casein. This alteration is presumed to make the A1 variant more susceptible to enzymatic breakdown during milk digestion, leading to an increased release of the peptide β-casomorphin-7 (BCM-7).

The interaction between single emitters and graphene in the context of energy transfer has attracted significant attention due to its potential applications in fields such as biophysics and super-resolution microscopy. In this study, we investigate the influence of the number of graphene layers on graphene energy transfer (GET) by placing single dye molecules at defined distances from monolayer, bilayer, and trilayer graphene substrates. We employ DNA origami nanostructures as chemical adapters to position the dye molecules precisely.
