Background: The recent COVID-19 pandemic and the emergence of infectious diseases at the human-animal interface highlight the global challenge of mitigating zoonotic risks. The One Health approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, urging for holistic and interdisciplinary strategies in disease prevention. Despite growing interest, the attention to wildlife in pandemic prevention remains limited.

PhysioCAFUN: a competency-based curriculum development guideline to strengthen physiology education in Africa.

Physiology education in Africa faces challenges due to gaps in curricula across many of its universities, such as divergent content, a lack of standardized competencies, and suitable benchmarking. Here, we describe the development of the Physiology Curriculum for African Universities (PhysioCAFUN), a competency-based curriculum development guideline, as a first step to address such shortcomings. A committee of 15 physiologists from different African regions, Europe, and the United States was constituted to draft the PhysioCAFUN, which was introduced and revised during the joint East African Society of Physiological Sciences (EASPS) and African Association of Physiological Sciences (AAPS) conference held in Tanzania late 2023.

A core assumption in decision neuroscience is that individuals decide between options by comparing option-specific subjective reward values. Psychological accounts challenge this view and suggest that decisions are better explained by comparisons between choice attributes than by comparisons between option-specific values, casting doubts on the interpretation of activation in the neural reward system as subjective value signals. Here, we provide neuroimaging and pharmacological evidence that value-related neural activity follows the value comparison strategy employed by an individual on the psychological level.

Objectives: A substantial and expanding body of literature addresses the safety and efficacy of fractional ablative laser therapy for traumatic scarring resulting from burns and other trauma. However, available scar research commonly employs standardized assessment scales that generally do not directly address the impact on function and overall quality of life. Unlike past reviews, this manuscript will explore available evidence with a focus explicitly on function and quality of life (QoL) outcomes and de-emphasize surrogate outcome measures that rely primarily on visual characteristics.
