Associations between Chlamydophila infections, schizophrenia and risk of HLA-A10.

Several microbes have been suspected as pathogenetic factors in schizophrenia. We have previously observed increased frequencies of chlamydial infections and of human lymphocyte antigen (HLA)-A10 in independent studies of schizophrenia. Our aim here was to analyze frequencies of three types of Chlamydiaceae in schizophrenic patients (n=72), random controls (n=225) and hospital-patient controls (n=36), together with HLA-A genotypes.

On the relationship between interoceptive awareness, emotional experience, and brain processes.

The perception of visceral signals plays a crucial role in many theories of emotions. The present study was designed to investigate the relationship between interoceptive awareness and emotion-related brain activity. 44 participants (16 male, 28 female) first underwent a heartbeat perception task and then were categorised either as good (n = 22) or poor heartbeat perceivers (n = 22).

MR imaging of the brain in pediatric patients: diagnostic value of HASTE sequences.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of half-Fourier single-shot turbo spin-echo (HASTE) sequences in MR imaging of the brain in pediatric patients.

Subjects And Methods: HASTE sequences were performed in 80 infants and children. Two radiologists who were unaware of the patients' medical histories independently reviewed the images for the presence of nine findings: defects of the parenchyma, hypoplasia or agenesis of the corpus callosum, edema, signs of increased intracranial pressure, myelination disorders, migration disorders, malformations, tumors, and widening of spaces of the cerebrospinal fluid.
