Objective: The European Health Data Space (EHDS) aims to provide better exchange and expand access to health data across Europe. In this way, the EHDS will support healthcare delivery (known as the "primary use of data") and facilitate access to health data for research and policy-making purposes (known as the "secondary use of data"). To achieve this goal, we need to build the required ecosystem of the EHDS with all healthcare stakeholders.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a frequent complication in COPD and it is associated with decreased exercise capacity and poor prognosis. We hypothesized that even in COPD patients without significant PH at rest, abnormal pulmonary hemodynamics during exercise affect exercise capacity.

Methods: Consecutive COPD patients with clinically indicated right heart catheterization and resting mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) < 25 mmHg and age- and sex-matched controls with the same limits of pulmonary hemodynamics but no chronic lung disease who underwent clinical work-up including invasive hemodynamic assessment during exercise, were retrospectively analyzed.

Background And Objective: Exhaustive pharmacokinetic (PK) studies in paediatric patients are unavailable for most antibiotics and feasibility of PK studies is limited by challenges, such as low blood volume and venipuncture-related pain. Microdialysis (MD) represents a promising method to overcome these obstacles. The aim of this proof-of-concept study was to develop and validate modified MD catheters that can be used to obtain concentration-time profiles of antibiotics in paediatric patients.

This systematic literature review (SLR) regarding the efficacy, duration of use and safety of glucocorticoids (GCs), was performed to inform the 2022 update of the EULAR recommendations for the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Studies on GC efficacy were identified from a separate search on the efficacy of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). A combined search was performed for the duration of use and safety of GCs in RA patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to update the effectiveness of various disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to help revise the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) guidelines from 2022.
  • A systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing 8969 articles to ultimately select 47 relevant studies that assessed the efficacy of conventional and biologic DMARDs, as well as strategies like switching or tapering medications.
  • Findings indicated that conventional DMARDs combined with short-term glucocorticoids were as effective as biologic DMARDs with methotrexate, and certain therapies, like interleukin-6 inhibitors and Janus kinase inhibitors, showed

The composition of the gut microbiome influences the clinical course after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), but little is known about the relevance of skin microorganisms. In a single-center, observational study, we recruited a cohort of 50 patients before undergoing conditioning treatment and took both stool and skin samples up to one year after HSCT. We could confirm intestinal dysbiosis following HSCT and report that the skin microbiome is likewise perturbed in HSCT-recipients.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) emerged as an essential signaling molecule exerting beneficial effects in various cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, or musculoskeletal diseases with an inflammatory component, such as osteoarthritis. These protective effects were initially attributed to protein S-sulfhydration, a posttranslational modification of reactive cysteine residues. However, recent studies suggest that polysulfides and not HS are responsible for S-sulfhydration.
