Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a member of the IL-1 family and the ligand of orphan ST2 molecules. IL-33 is widely expressed in multiple tissues and cells, and mainly involved in regulating Th2 immune and inflammatory responses. Inhibiting IL-33 signaling pathways relieves the symptoms of allergic inflammation, indicating that IL-33 is a potential target for the treatment of allergic diseases.

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a form of autoimmune encephalitis associated with antibodies against the NR1 subunits of NMDARs. Although new-onset acute prominent psychotic syndromes in patients with NMDAR encephalitis have been well documented, there is a lack of case studies on differential diagnosis and treatment of anti-NMDAR encephalitis after a long-term diagnostic history of functional psychotic disorders. The present study reports an unusual case of anti-NMDAR encephalitis.

Key Laboratory of Epigenetics and Oncology, The Research Center for Preclinical Medicine, Luzhou Medical College, 3-319, Zhongshan road, Luzhou, Sichuan 646000 , P. R. China.

Generation of the stable cell lines is a highly efficient tool in functional studies of certain genes or proteins, where the particular genes or proteins are inducibly expressed. The KRAB-associated protein-1 (KAP1) is an important transcription regulatory protein, which is investigated in several molecular biological studies. In this study, we have aimed to generate a stable cell line for inducing KAP1 expression.

State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy of Human Disease, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, P.R. China.

Aldosterone is a steroid hormone secreted from the adrenal cortex, which regulates blood pressure. Higher concentrations of aldosterone can cause several diseases, including hypertension, diabetic nephropathy and chronic kidney disease. Previous reports have demonstrated that aldosterone has a pathogenic role in renal injury via reactive oxygen species (ROS), which involves the regulation of autophagy.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs, which are important in the development of multidrug resistance in cancer by regulating gene expression at the post‑transcriptional level. The present study investigated the functional effects of miR‑522 in chemoresistant colon cancer cells. The results demonstrated that miR‑522 was significantly downregulated in doxorubicin (DOX) resistant colon cell line, HT29/DOX, compared with the parental HT29 colon cancer cell line.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Omniscan® and Magnevist® on (99m) Tc-MDP uptake in rabbits during (99m) Tc-MDP bone scintigraphy. In Experiment Group 1, 30 healthy adult rabbits were randomized into six subgroups (n = 5); each subgroup experienced a different time interval between injections (30 min, 60 min, 120 min, 240 min, 360 min, 24 h). All six subgroups were injected first with Omniscan®, then with (99m) Tc-MDP.

Lipoamide Acts as an Indirect Antioxidant by Simultaneously Stimulating Mitochondrial Biogenesis and Phase II Antioxidant Enzyme Systems in ARPE-19 Cells.

Center for Mitochondrial Biology and Medicine, The Key Laboratory of Biomedical Information Engineering of Ministry of Education, School of Life Science and Technology and Frontier Institute of Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China; Institute for Cancer Medicine, Luzhou Medical College, Luzhou, Sichuan, China.

In our previous study, we found that pretreatment with lipoamide (LM) more effectively than alpha-lipoic acid (LA) protected retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells from the acrolein-induced damage. However, the reasons and mechanisms for the greater effect of LM than LA are unclear. We hypothesize that LM, rather than the more direct antioxidant LA, may act more as an indirect antioxidant.

Aim: To investigate the roles of nuclear factor (NF)-κB and angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1R) in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Methods: Forty-two healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: the control group (normal diet), the model group, and the intervention group (10 wk of a high-fat diet feeding, followed by an intraperitoneal injection of PDTC); 6 rats in each group were sacrificed at 6, 10, and 14 wk. After sacrifice, liver tissue was taken, paraffin sections of liver tissue specimens were prepared, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was performed, and pathological changes in liver tissue (i.

MicroRNAs and Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors Governing the Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Curr Stem Cell Res Ther

December 2016

Orofacial Reconstruction and Regeneration Laboratory, Hospital of Stomatology, Luzhou Medical College, No. 319, 3rd Sec, Zhong Shan Road, Luzhou 646000, P.R.China.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the self-renewal ability and the ability to produce multiple differentiation. Elucidating the genetic circuits that govern MSC self-renewal and differentiation is necessary to improve our comprehension of MSCs and their role in regenerative medicine. microRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in the regulation of transcription, and are strongly linked with MSCs regarding the maintenance of pluripotency properties.

PPARγ and Wnt Signaling in Adipogenic and Osteogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Curr Stem Cell Res Ther

December 2016

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hospital of Stomatology, Luzhou Medical College, No.2, Jiang Yang Nan Road, Luzhou 646000, P.R.China.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) arise from a variety of tissues, including bone marrow and adipose tissue and, accordingly, have the potential to differentiate into multiple cell types, including osteoblasts and adipocytes. Research on MSCs to date has demonstrated that a large number of transcription factors and ectocytic or intrastitial signaling pathways regulate adipogenic and osteogenic differentiation. A theoretical inverse relationship exists in adipogenic and osteogenic lineage commitment and differentiation, such that signaling pathways induce adipogenesis at the expense of osteogenesis and vice versa.

This study aims to estimate plasma levels of acylated ghrelin in children with pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with congenital heart disease (CHD) and to correlate the levels of acylated ghrelin with endothelin-1 (ET-1), nitric oxide (NO), and clinical hemodynamic parameters. We investigated the plasma concentration of acylated ghrelin, ET-1, NO, and the hemodynamic parameters in 20 children with CHD, 20 children with PH-CHD, and 20 normal children. Plasma-acylated ghrelin and NO levels were significantly higher in CHD group than in control subjects (P < 0.

Purinergic signaling has been implicated in the regulation of many cellular processes. A high concentration of ATP has been observed in the tumor microenvironment, suggesting a possible role of extracellular ATP in tumor progression. The P2X7 receptor, which belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel receptor family, is involved in tumor development and metastasis.
