Background/aims: : Low educational attainment is a well-established risk factor for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in developed areas. However, the association between educational attainment and the risk of NAFLD is less clear in China.

Methods: : A cross-sectional study including over 200,000 Chinese adults across mainland China was conducted.

A higher TyG index level is more likely to have enhanced incidence of T2DM and HTN comorbidity in elderly Chinese people: a prospective observational study from the reaction study.

Background: Triglyceride glucose index (TyG index) was related with both type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and hypertension (HTN). Prospective studies linking the TyG index to the incidence of T2DM and HTN comorbidity remain unclear. This study aimed to to explore the longitudinal association between TyG and new-onset T2DM with HTN.

Multidisciplinary Antenatal Management of a Late Pregnancy Complicated With Advanced Stage Breast Burkitt Lymphoma - Case Report and a Review of the Literature.

The multidisciplinary team (MDT) plays a pivotal role in establishing the diagnosis and tailoring treatment for challenging, complicated, rare obstetrical cases. At 28 weeks of gestation, a lady presented with an unresolved unilateral proptosis and sustained severe mastitis. MDT managed the patient at a tertiary care hospital for primary breast Burkitt lymphoma (PBBL).

Obesity mediates the opposite association of education and diabetes in Chinese men and women: Results from the REACTION study.

Background: Evidence regarding the impact of education on diabetes risk is scarce in developing countries. We aimed to explore the association between education and diabetes within a large population in China and to identify the possible mediators between them.

Methods: Information on educational level and lifestyle factors was collected through questionnaires.

Background: Obesity, especially visceral obesity, seems to be one of the most decisive risk factors for chronic kidney disease. A Body Shape Index (ABSI) is an emerging body size measurement marker of visceral obesity. This study aimed to explore whether ABSI is associated with albuminuria in Chinese community adults.

Methods: The China Cardiometabolic Disease and Cancer Cohort (4C) Study was a nationwide, multicenter, prospective cohort study. About 92,869 participants without cardiovascular disease or cancer at baseline were included.

High-Resolution 3D Heart Models of Cardiomyocyte Subpopulations in Cleared Murine Heart.

Biological tissues are naturally three-dimensional (3D) opaque structures, which poses a major challenge for the deep imaging of spatial distribution and localization of specific cell types in organs in biomedical research. Here we present a 3D heart imaging reconstruction approach by combining an improved heart tissue-clearing technique with high-resolution light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM). We have conducted a three-dimensional and multi-scale volumetric imaging of the ultra-thin planes of murine hearts for up to 2,000 images per heart in x-, y-, and z three directions.

Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance, a novel score to evaluate insulin sensitivity, is associated with the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio in Chinese adults: A cross-sectional REACTION study.

Aims/introduction: The Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance (METS-IR) is a novel non-insulin-based metabolic index used as a substitution marker of insulin resistance. However, whether METS-IR is associated with the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) is not well known. Therefore, we explored the associations between METS-IR and UACR, and compared the discriminative ability of METS-IR and its components for elevated UACR.

Interaction between smoking and diabetes in relation to subsequent risk of cardiovascular events.

Background: Whether smoking modifies the associations of diabetes and risk factor management with subsequent risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and whether the smoking related CVD risk differs among people with and without diabetes are unclear. This study aimed to examine the associations and interactions of smoking, diabetes, and risk factor management in relation to incident CVD.

Methods: This nationwide, population-based, prospective cohort study of 20 communities from various geographic regions recruited adults aged 40 years or older during 2011-2012.

Association of soy food with cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality in a Chinese population: a nationwide prospective cohort study.

Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the association of soy intake with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study in a Chinese population composed of 97,930 participants aged ≥ 40 years old without CVD at baseline in 2011. Habitual soy intake over a period of 12 months was evaluated using a food frequency questionnaire.

Association of education levels with the risk of hypertension and hypertension control: a nationwide cohort study in Chinese adults.

Background: Education attainment can improve life expectancy and guide healthy behaviours throughout an entire lifetime. A nationwide longitudinal study of the association of education status with the risk of hypertension and its control in China is lacking.

Metabolomics study reveals systematic metabolic dysregulation and early detection markers associated with incident pancreatic cancer.

Biomarkers for early detection of pancreatic cancer are in urgent need. To explore systematic circulating metabolites unbalance and identify potential biomarkers for pancreatic cancer in prospective Chinese cohorts, we conducted an untargeted metabolomics study in subjects with incident pancreatic cancer and matched controls (n = 192) from the China Cardiometabolic Disease and Cancer Cohort (4C) Study. We characterized 998 metabolites in baseline serum and calculated 156 product-to-precursor ratios based on the KEGG database.

Association Between Age at Diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases: A Nationwide, Population-Based, Cohort Study.

Objectives: Nationwide studies focusing on the impact of early-onset type 2 diabetes and obesity on the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are limited in China. We aimed to investigate the association between age at diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and the risk of CVD, and to further examine the modifying effect of obesity on this association among Chinese adults.

Methods: This study included 23,961 participants with previously diagnosed diabetes from a large nationwide population-based cohort study across mainland China.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of gestational hyperglycemia on the subsequent risk of CVD and its modifying factors among elderly Chinese women.

High concentrations of triglycerides are associated with diabetic kidney disease in new-onset type 2 diabetes in China: Findings from the China Cardiometabolic Disease and Cancer Cohort (4C) Study.

Aims: The aims of this study were to evaluate the associations of metabolic abnormalities with incident diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and to explore whether dyslipidaemia, particularly high fasting triglyceride (TG), was associated with the development of DKD.

Methods: In total, 11 142 patients with new-onset type 2 diabetes with baseline estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m were followed up during 2011-2016.

Associations between prepregnancy body mass index, gestational weight gain and weight catch-up in small-for-gestational-age children.

Inadequate gestational weight gain (GWG) was related with a higher incidence of small-for-gestational-age (SGA) births than appropriate GWG; however, the long-term association of maternal GWG with weight catch-up growth in SGA children remains unknown. The objective of this study is to evaluate the associations between prepregnancy body mass index (pBMI), GWG and weight catch-up patterns in SGA children. Data were from the Collaborative Perinatal Project, an American multicentre prospective cohort study.

The association between age at diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and albuminuria in Chinese adults: A nationwide population study.

Background: Type 2 diabetes is increasingly diagnosed at a younger age worldwide and in China. Limited data are available regarding the association between age at diabetes diagnosis and risks of albuminuria. This study sought to examine the independent effect of age at diagnosis of type 2 diabetes on the risk of albuminuria.

Identification of cluster of differentiation molecule-associated microRNAs as potential therapeutic targets for gastrointestinal cancer immunotherapy.

Background: Cluster of differentiation molecules are markers of immune cells that have been identified as a potential immunotherapeutic target for cancer treatment. MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that act as tumor suppressors or oncogenes whose importance in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of gastric and colorectal cancers has been widely reported. However, their association with cluster of differentiation molecules in gastrointestinal cancers has not been well studied.

Triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio is superior to triglycerides and other lipid ratios as an indicator of increased urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio in the general population of China: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Dyslipidemia contributes to the pathogenesis of renal dysfunction. Previous research demonstrated that triglycerides (TG), instead of other individual lipid indexes, has a significant link with elevated urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR). However, it is unclear whether lipid ratios are superior indicators of increased UACR compared with TG.

Association between obesity and urinary albumin-creatinine ratio in the middle-aged and elderly population of Southern and Northern China: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: The relationship between obesity and albuminuria has not been clarified. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between obesity and the urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) in Southern and Northern China.

Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional study.

Low-grade albuminuria is associated with high cardiovascular risk in CVD-free and normoalbuminuric Chinese adults: Results from the REACTION study.

Background: Data are limited with regard to the association between low-grade albuminuria (below the threshold of microalbuminuria) and high cardiovascular risk in normoalbuminuric Chinese adults free of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Methods: A total of 32 650 participants aged over 40 years from seven regional centers in China were included in this study. The single-void first morning urine sample was collected to measure the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) and the data were divided into sex-specific quartiles.
