Background: Antiretroviral treatment (ART) is the most effective clinical intervention for reducing morbidity and mortality among persons living with HIV. However, in Uganda, there are disparities between men and women in viral load suppression and related HIV care engagement outcomes, which suggests problems with the implementation of ART. Gender norms are a known driver of HIV disparities in sub-Saharan Africa, and patient-provider relationships are a key factor in HIV care engagement; therefore, the role of gender norms is important to consider in interventions to achieve the equitable provision of treatment and the quality of ART counseling.

Introduction: Substance misuse persists and is undertreated across the United States (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2021). Further enhancing the skill sets and capacity of interprofessional members of primary care teams to include proficiency in the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) model could help to alleviate the "treatment gap" (those requiring treatment, but not receiving it) by enhancing interprofessional teams at the pregraduate level (e.g.

2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), the most abundant endocannabinoid, displays anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Inhibition of 2-AG degradation by inactivation of monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), a key enzyme degrading 2-AG in the brain, alleviates neuropathology and improves synaptic and cognitive functions in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases. In particular, global inactivation of MAGL by genetic deletion of mgll enhances hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and hippocampus-dependent learning and memory.

Background: The number of research publications reporting the use of the Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (PARIHS) framework and the integrated PARIHS (i-PARIHS) framework has grown steadily. We asked how the last decade of implementation research, predicated on the (i-)PARIHS framework (referring to the PARIHS or i-PARIHS framework), has contributed to our understanding of the conceptualizations of, relationships between, and dynamics among the core framework elements/sub-elements. Building on the Helfrich et al.

Drug repurposing, the strategy to identify new therapeutic use for clinically approved drugs has attracted much attention in recent years. This strategy offers various advantages over traditional approaches to develop new drugs, including shorter development timelines, low cost, and reduced risk of failure. In this issue of EMBO Molecular Medicine, Liu et al show that inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) inhibitors, the well-known immunosuppressants have a potent therapeutic effect on the aggressive blood cancer, acute myeloid leukemia with MLL rearrangements.

Problem: Residents may experience mistreatment by faculty, peers, nurses, or patients. While faculty are reportedly the primary contributors to mistreatment, residents can also be offenders, which merits study. Forum theatre (FT) is an experiential learning modality requiring a peer group to develop problem-solving strategies.

Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is an inevitable complication of liver transplantation and partial hepatectomy. Although the hazards of environmental microplastics (EMPs) have been well explored, data underlying their impact on IR-induced hepatotoxicity and how to alleviate these damages remain largely undefined. In this study, the involvement of melatonin (MT) in modulating EMPs toxicity in the liver undergoing ischemia-reperfusion injury was investigated.

Telehealth programs existed in many subspecialities before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the public health event motivated many subspecialties to reflect on how current technologies could be leveraged to benefit patient outcomes and increase health-care access. This article reviews the history and current state of telehealth access in many areas of subspecialty care. Primary care physicians (PCPs) may be unaware of the telehealth services and options local subspecialists offer.

Background: Across the last several years, numerous surgical departments and societies have focused on addressing the lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field. Since the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS) Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce was created in 2017 (and solidified as a formal committee in 2018, herein referred to as the APDS-DIC), it has sought to address gaps in diversity at various phases of training and development from medical student to surgical leader.
Objective: In follow-up to a 2018 study that benchmarked leadership demographics of the APDS, this study analyzed how the APDS' efforts have aligned with recommended DEI strategies and whether this produced demographic changes in organizational leadership.

The objective of this study is to identify sociodemographic predictors of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and elucidate important concerns among the pregnant population in light of evolving conversations regarding COVID-19.
Methods: A prospective survey of pregnant women at a single urban clinic in South Texas was conducted August to September 2021 to identify predictors of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among the pregnant population.

Health care transition (HCT) from pediatric to adult-focused services is a longitudinal process driven by the collaboration and interactions of adolescent/young adult patients, their families, providers, health care agencies, and environment. Health care providers in both pediatric and adult-focused settings must collaborate, as patients' health self-management skills are acquired in the mid-20s, after they have transferred to adult-focused care. Our manuscript discusses the individual and family support systems as they relate to adolescents and young adults with chronic or end-stage kidney disease.

Myeloid malignancies develop through the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations that dysregulate hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) self-renewal, stimulate HSC proliferation and result in differentiation defects. The polycomb group (PcG) and trithorax group (TrxG) of epigenetic regulators act antagonistically to regulate the expression of genes key to stem cell functions. The genes encoding these proteins, and the proteins that interact with them or affect their occupancy at chromatin, are frequently mutated in myeloid malignancies.

Collagen is the predominant structural protein within connective tissues. Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is characterized by weakening of the pelvic floor connective tissues and loss of support for pelvic organs. In this study, we examined the multiscale structure, molecular composition and biomechanics of native collagen fibrils in connective tissues of the posterior vaginal fornix collected from healthy women and POP patients, and established the correlation of these properties with clinical POP quantification (POP-Q) scores.
