Lung cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, with its high mortality rate attributed mainly to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) has revolutionized its treatment, patient response is highly variable and lacking predictive markers. We conducted a prospective study on 55 patients with NSCLC undergoing ICI therapy to identify predictive markers of both response and immune-related adverse events (IrAEs) in the airway microbiota.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have been proposed as the standard treatment for different stages of non-small-cell lung cancer in multiple indications. Not all patients benefit from these treatments, however, and certain patients develop immune-related adverse events. Although the search for predictors of response to these drugs is a major field of research, these issues have yet to be resolved.

Background: Clevidipine is an ultrashort-acting drug for rapid reduction of blood pressure by selectively acting on the L-type Ca2+ channels on arteriolar smooth muscle. The drug's ultrashort action in reducing the blood pressure is due to its rapid hydrolysis by blood and extravascular tissue esterases, which does not depend on hepato-renal metabolism and excretion. An analysis of the perioperative management of blood pressure should be considered to compare with other intravenous antihypertensive agents.

Purpose: We measured the amount of hemoglobin at the optic nerve head of fibromyalgia (FM) patients using new colorimetric analysis software. We also investigated whether perfusion defects of the optic nerve head in patients with FM lead to tissue atrophy and corresponding retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thinning measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Methods: We recruited for this cross-sectional study 118 FM patients and 76 sex- and age-matched healthy controls.

Aim: Experimental studies suggest that free radicals are involved in acid and pepsin-induced damage of esophageal mucosa. The profile and balance between free radicals and antioxidant systems in human esophagitis are unknown.
Methods: Superoxide anion and its powerful oxidant reaction with nitric oxide (peroxynitrite) generation were determined in esophageal mucosal biopsies from 101 patients with different gastro-esophageal reflux diseases and 28 controls.

Anisakis simplex is a common parasite in fish and cephalopods and is not only capable of causing anisakiasis in humans through visceral invasion of the third-stage larvae but can also cause anaphylactic reactions, as has recently been demonstrated. We present the clinical case of a 56-year-old man who initially presented anaphylactic reactions related to eating fish. Shortly afterwards, he began to experience self-limiting recurrences of very intense epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting.
