Objectives: Cable median barriers (CMBs) are installed on freeway medians to prevent cross-median crashes and reduce the severity of median-related crashes. Though CMBs are effective in preventing cross-median crashes, they are also known to increase the number of property damage-only (PDO) crashes. The higher frequency of PDO crashes could result in increased CMB maintenance and repair expenses.

While non-essential travel was canceled during the coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19) pandemic, grocery shopping was essential. The objectives of this study were to: 1) examine how grocery store visits changed during the early outbreak of COVID-19, and 2) estimate a model to predict the change of grocery store visits in the future, within the same phase of the pandemic. This study evaluates field asphalt aging based on material property changes in pavement with time, and investigates if such changes could have an impact on field rutting performance. Four projects from three different climate zones were monitored as part of the NCHRP 9-49A project at two stages: during pavement construction and two to three years after opening it to traffic. Construction information were collected, and field cores were drilled at both stages to evaluate the material properties of recovered asphalt binder and asphalt mixture.

The aim of the research is to quantify the property of asphalt mortar and asphalt mixture containing municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash. The potential of partially replacing mineral fillers with MSWI fly ash in asphalt mixture production was investigated. Five different MSWI fly ash replacement ratios, which include 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, were adopted to assess the influence of fly ash dosage, and the optimum fly ash replacement ratio was proposed.

The consolidation of Highway-Railroad Grade Crossing (HRGC) is one of the effective approaches to decrease the number of crashes between trains and vehicles. From 2015-2019, there were 57 HRGC crashes at crossings in East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP), resulting in thirteen injuries with $346,875 cost of vehicle damages. Consolidation programs help to close redundant crossings and thereby decrease the crash risks; however, it is difficult to find the best crossing in a neighborhood for closure.

Using naturalistic driving data, this study analyzed the driving behavior of major approach right and left turning vehicles to minor approach at rural two-way stop controlled intersections by detecting the location where drivers reacted to the upcoming intersection to complete a turning maneuver. The study used 449 time series traces from 29 two-way stop controlled intersections across five states for the analysis. All 449 traces were associated to free flow condition with driving not obstructed by the vehicle ahead.

Introduction: Data from the Federal Railroad Administration show high numbers of incidents at the approximately 210,446 highway-railroad grade crossings across the United States. One cause for this unsettling trend is the problem of drivers stopping within the dynamic envelope zone (DEZ) of the train while in queue. This research seeks to study DEZ stopping behavior at highway-railroad grade crossings by evaluating regulatory signage and further analyze variables that may affect this behavior.

In the United States, there are approximately 212,000 highway-rail grade crossings, some of which experience vehicle-train incidents that often cause a massive financial burden, loss of life, and injury. In 2017, there were 2,108 highway-rail incidents resulting in 827 injuries and 307 fatalities nationwide. To eliminate collision risks, crossing grade separation and active alarm improvement are commonly used.

Identifying repeat DUI crash factors using state crash records.

The objective of this study is to identify high risk factors that are closely related to repeat DUI crashes using readily available information from the state crash records. Survival analysis was used and a Cox proportional hazards model was developed using the police-reported crash records in the state of Louisiana. A variety of variables were found to be significant in predicting repeat DUI crashes.
