As a human tumor virus, EBV is present as a latent infection in its associated malignancies where genetic and epigenetic changes have been shown to impede cellular differentiation and viral reactivation. We reported previously that levels of the Wnt signaling effector, lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1 (LEF1) increased following EBV epithelial infection and an epigenetic reprogramming event was maintained even after loss of the viral genome. Elevated LEF1 levels are also observed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt lymphoma.

HPV evades host immunity in part by linking its gene expression to the host differentiation program, and therefore relies on differentiation to complete its life cycle. Based on previous reports indicating that the HPV16 protein E5 is important in the late stages of the differentiation-dependent life cycle, we found that organotypic cultures harboring HPV16 genomes lacking E5 showed reduced markers of terminal differentiation compared to wild type HPV16-containing cultures.

Objective: This study compares the clinical and haemodynamic severity of methamphetamine-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (MA-PAH) with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) and connective tissue-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (CTD-PAH). Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) requires inactivation of AKT to efficiently replicate, yet how AKT is shut off during HCMV infection has remained unclear. We show that UL38, an HCMV protein that activates mTORC1, is necessary and sufficient to destabilize insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1), a model insulin receptor substrate (IRS) protein. The development of genetically encoded dopamine sensors such as dLight has provided a new approach to measuring slow and fast dopamine dynamics both in brain slices and in vivo, possibly enabling dopamine measurements in areas like the dorsolateral striatum (DLS) where previously such recordings with fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) were difficult. To test this, we first evaluated dLight photometry in mouse brain slices with simultaneous FSCV and found that both techniques yielded comparable results, but notable differences in responses to dopamine transporter inhibitors, including cocaine. The tools focus on sepsis multidisciplinary care using industry-standard heuristics of interface design to enhance usability and interaction.

With increasing survival in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), complications such as gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies are becoming more apparent, especially in transplanted patients. In patients with CF, these malignancies are most commonly found in the small bowel, colon, biliary tract and pancreas. We describe a patient with esophageal squamous cell cancer at the site of trachea-esophageal fistula repair in the setting of long-standing CF.
