Objective: To test whether a personality feedback intervention improves three domains of cancer self-management: self-awareness, self-efficacy, and positive affect.
Methods: From 11/2020-02/2021, 372 adults diagnosed with cancer participated in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of an intervention that entailed reading a brief personality-related excerpt during an online survey. Eligibility included self-reported age ≥ 18 years, current or past cancer diagnosis, and ability to read English.

Background: Interventricular septal (IVS) flattening is a key echocardiographic feature of pulmonary hypertension (PH) that is associated with worse outcomes. The accuracy and interobserver reliability of visual and quantitative measures of IVS in PH patients are poorly described.
Methods: This single-center, retrospective analysis included 173 PH patients.

People with HIV (PWH) have often experienced chronic stressors across their lifespan, including adverse childhood experiences (ACES), lifetime economic hardship (LEH), and concurrent stressors associated with living in urban areas (urban stress). Prolonged exposure to stressors might result in differential coping patterns among PWH that can impact care trajectories. We utilized a life course-informed approach to examine chronic stressors as antecedents of latent coping strategies among PWH in care.

Purpose: To assess the attitudes and behaviors of physicians, hospital pharmacists, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals toward naloxone use. This survey will help the University Medical Center New Orleans Analgesic Management Stewardship team understand barriers and determine the education needed to improve the care we provide.
Methods: A survey was conducted at a single center, and it contained 17 questions: two concerning provider type and practice setting, followed by 15 qualitative questions to be answered in a Likert scale format, with options ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree.

It is estimated that over 16 million people are living with opioid use disorder (OUD) worldwide, with 2.1 million people in the United States. Opioid addiction is theorized to be associated with strong dopaminergic response to opioid receptor stimulations that contributes to reward-seeking behaviors and individuals' experiences with opioids.

Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a precise and effective technique for treating skin cancers, necessitating high accuracy and real-time decision-making to ensure complete tumor removal while preserving healthy tissue. The introduction of the Apple Vision Pro (AVP), an advanced mixed-reality headset, presents a potential technological advancement in surgical practice. The present investigation explores the integration of AVP into Mohs surgery, focusing on its potential to enhance preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, and postoperative analysis.

Random renal biopsy is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of systemic renal disorders. Percutaneous biopsy remains a safe option for most patients; however, the percutaneous approach may be considered too risky in approximately 5-10% of patients. In these high-risk patients, transjugular renal biopsy (TJRB) may represent an underutilized alternative.

Purpose: Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with prior knee cartilage surgery have unclear outcomes in the literature. This study compared outcomes after TKA in patients with or without prior knee cartilage surgery, and we hypothesized there would be equivocal outcomes between groups.
Methods: A retrospective matched case-control study was conducted on patients from our institution who underwent ipsilateral cartilage procedure(s) and TKA (cases) or TKA alone (controls) from 2000 to 2022.

Background: Riluzole exhibits neuroprotective and therapeutic effects in several neurological disease models associated with excessive synaptic glutamate (Glu) release. We recently showed riluzole prevents acute excitotoxic hippocampal neural injury at 3 days in the kainic acid (KA) model of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Currently, it is unknown if preventing acute neural injury and the neuroinflammatory response is sufficient to suppress epileptogenesis.

Over a decade of randomized controlled trial data demonstrate excellent outcomes with transcatheter aortic valve replacement or surgical aortic valve replacement for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis regardless of surgical risk. The 2020 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines recommend both options for low-risk AS patients aged 65 to 80 years. However, the fastest growing population of patients receiving transcatheter aortic valve replacement in the United States is <65 years old, with little data to support the practice.

Background And Objectives: California is one of a few states with mandatory reporting of mortality after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The Affordable Care Act restructured Medicaid, preferentially penalizing patients experiencing poverty because payments to hospitals for isolated surgical events overshadow payments to primary care clinicians. We propose outcomes are superior when hospital networks organize surgical episodes within the context of primary care inside that same network.

Introduction: We investigated the genetic determinants of variation in the hemoglobin glycation index (HGI), an emerging biomarker for the risk of diabetes complications.
Methods: We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for HGI in the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) trial ( = 7,913) using linear regression and additive genotype encoding on variants with minor allele frequency greater than 3%. We conducted replication analyses of top findings in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study with inverse variance-weighted meta-analysis.

Importance: Pediatric patients with cancer commonly experience severely bothersome symptoms. The effectiveness of routine symptom screening with symptom feedback and symptom management care pathways is unknown.
Objective: To determine whether thrice-weekly symptom screening with symptom feedback and management care pathways, compared with usual care, improves overall self-reported symptom scores measured by the Symptom Screening in Pediatrics Tool (SSPedi) in pediatric patients with cancer.

The Mediator complex plays a pivotal role in facilitating RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription in eukaryotes. Within this complex, the CDK8 kinase module (CKM), comprising CDK8, Cyclin C (CycC), Med12 and Med13, serves as a dissociable subcomplex that modulates the activity of the small Mediator complex. Genetic studies in Drosophila have revealed distinct phenotypes associated with mutations in CKM subunits, but the underlying mechanisms have remained unclear.

Unlabelled: Our recent studies have shown that deficiency of MecA in significantly affects cell division, growth, and biofilm formation. In this study, an mixed-species model, proteomics, and affinity pull-down assays were used to further characterize the MecA-mediated regulation in . The results showed that compared with the wild type, UA159, the mutant significantly reduced its production of glucans and weakened its ability to facilitate mixed-species biofilm formation.

: Bone nonunion remains a clinical challenge in orthopedic surgery with significant impacts on mental and physical wellbeing for patients. There are several previously established risk factors of nonunion that are connected to nutrition, but this has yet to be substantially explored. This review seeks to assess all studies that present associations between nutrition and nonunion to understand the potential for clinical relevance in nonunion prevention.
