Article Synopsis
  • Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a key method for diagnosing salivary gland lesions, and the modified MSRSGC helps standardize FNA report classifications.
  • In a study of 325 patients treated from 2012 to 2019, the sensitivity of the modified MSRSGC was 64.18%, and its specificity was 91.94%.
  • The use of frozen sections (FS) primarily aimed to establish a primary diagnosis, mostly showing malignancy when FNA results were classified as type V or higher, indicating that FS may not significantly enhance intraoperative decision-making.

Objective: Chronic inflammation is considered to be of key importance in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide (GLP) and Hypericum perforatum (HP) have been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. We studied the effects of these agents on ovarian tissue in a rat model of experimental PCOS.

Colorectal polyps, frequently adenomas, are common in older adults, with villous adenomas being a notable subset due to their potential for significant malignancy risk. This case report highlights a rare instance of a giant villous adenoma in a 79-year-old female patient, challenging in both diagnosis and treatment. The patient, with a history of untreated essential arterial hypertension, was hospitalized for severe anemia following a massive rectal hemorrhage.

Objectives: Penile squamous cell carcinomas (PCs) are rare malignancies with a dismal prognosis in a metastatic setting; therefore, novel immunotherapeutic modalities are an unmet need. One such modality is the immune checkpoint molecule programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1). We sought to analyze PD-L1 expression and its correlation with various clinicopathologic parameters in a contemporary cohort of 134 patients with PC.

Objective: Due to the similarities in the physiological mechanisms and antigenicity of the kidney and cochlea, they are simultaneously affected by certain diseases and drugs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether the hearing functions of patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS) were affected by the severity of the disease and the cyclosporine treatment.

Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 87 participants, including 65 patients (130 ears) with NS and 22 age- and sex-matched normal hearing children (44 ears).

BE and Phase I Clinical Trial Center, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, School of Medicine, Xiamen University, NO.55 Zhenhai Road, Xiamen, 361002, Fujian, People's Republic of China.

Cardiac damage in non-severe patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is poorly explored. This study aimed to explore the manifestations of cardiac damage at presentation in non-severe patients with COVID-19. In this study, 113 non-severe patients with COVID-19 were grouped according to the duration from symptoms onset to hospital admission: group 1 (≤ 1 week, n = 27), group 2 (> 1 to 2 weeks, n = 28), group 3 (> 2 to 3 weeks, n = 27), group 4 (> 3 weeks, n = 31).

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in neonates (MIS-N) is hypothesised to be caused either following transplacental transfer of SARS-CoV2 antibodies or antibodies developed in the neonate after infection with SARS-CoV-2. In this paper, we aim to discuss the clinical manifestations, laboratory features, and management of neonates diagnosed with MIS-N. We collated information from five participating hospitals in western India.

Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare autosomal or X-linked genetic disorder characterized by chromosomal breakages, congenital abnormalities, bone marrow failure (BMF), and cancer. There has been a discovery of 22 FANC genes known to be involved in the FA pathway. This wide number of pathway components makes molecular diagnosis challenging for FA.

Background: There are no studies in the literature, comparing the functional and anatomical successes of the use of fascial and perichondrial grafts in endoscopic type 1 tympanoplasties.

Objectives: To compare the anatomical and functional outcomes of grafting with the fascia of the temporalis muscle and with the perichondrium of the tragal cartilage in patients undergoing primary transcanal type 1 tympanoplasty with endoscopy.

Methods: We enrolled a total of 151 patients (80 females and 71 males with a mean age of 26.

Harran University, Medical Faculty, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Şanlıurfa, Turkey.

Introduction: Elevation of tympanomeatal flap is one of the basic steps of tympanoplasty. A satisfactory level of anatomic and functional success can be achieved by using different grafts with limited tympanomeatal flap elevation.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the anatomic and functional success of tragal cartilage perichondrium and temporal muscle fascia in cases of endoscopic type 1 tympanoplasty performed with limited tympanomeatal flap elevation.
