Data on diet and survival among people with metastatic colorectal cancer are limited. We examined dietary fat in relation to all-cause mortality and cancer progression or death among 1149 people in the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (Alliance)/Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) 80405 trial who completed a food frequency questionnaire at initiation of treatment for advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer. We examined saturated, monounsaturated, total and specific types (n-3, long-chain n-3 and n-6) of polyunsaturated fat, animal and vegetable fats.

Purpose: To compare choriocapillaris flow deficit (CC-FD) analysis using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in eyes of patients treated with high cumulative dosages of pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS) but no signs of retinal toxicity versus healthy age-matched controls.
Design: Retrospective clinical cohort study.
Methods: Patients treated with PPS for interstitial cystitis with a cumulative dose of > 1000 g underwent multimodal imaging screening to exclude evidence of PPS maculopathy or other retinal findings.

Predicting electronic energies, densities, and related chemical properties can facilitate the discovery of novel catalysts, medicines, and battery materials. However, existing machine learning techniques are challenged by the scarcity of training data when exploring unknown chemical spaces. We overcome this barrier by systematically incorporating knowledge of molecular electronic structure into deep learning.

We assessed susceptibility patterns to newer antimicrobial agents among clinical carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) isolates from patients in long-term acute-care hospitals (LTACHs) from 2014 to 2015. Meropenem-vaborbactam and imipenem-relebactam nonsusceptibility were observed among 9.9% and 9.

Background: In 2015, endovascular therapy (EVT) for large vessel occlusions became standard of care for acute ischemic stroke. Lower utilization of IV alteplase has been reported in women, but whether sex differences in EVT use in the United States exists has not been established.
Methods: We identified all acute ischemic stroke discharges from Get With The Guidelines-Stroke hospitals between 2012 and 2019 who were potentially eligible for EVT, based on National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score ≥6 and arrival <6 hours, according to 2018 American Heart Association/ASA guidelines.

Observational studies suggest that nutritional factors have a potential cognitive benefit. However, systematic reviews of randomised trials of dietary and nutritional supplements have reported largely null effects on cognitive outcomes and have highlighted study inconsistencies and other limitations. In this Personal View, the Nutrition for Dementia Prevention Working Group presents what we consider to be limitations in the existing nutrition clinical trials for dementia prevention.

Most children with biallelic SMN1 deletions and three SMN2 copies develop spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 2. SPR1NT ( NCT03505099 ), a Phase III, multicenter, single-arm trial, investigated the efficacy and safety of onasemnogene abeparvovec for presymptomatic children with biallelic SMN1 mutations treated within six postnatal weeks. Of 15 children with three SMN2 copies treated before symptom onset, all stood independently before 24 months (P < 0.

Social networks are the persons surrounding a patient who provide support, circulate information, and influence health behaviors. For patients seen by neurologists, social networks are one of the most proximate social determinants of health that are actually accessible to clinicians, compared with wider social forces such as structural inequalities. We can measure social networks and related phenomena of social connection using a growing set of scalable and quantitative tools increasing familiarity with social network effects and mechanisms.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop consensus for the surgical indications of anterior distal femur hemiepiphysiodesis in children with cerebral palsy using expert surgeon opinion through a modified Delphi technique.
Methods: The panel used a 5-level Likert-type scale to record agreement or disagreement with 27 statements regarding anterior distal femur hemiepiphysiodesis. Consensus was defined as at least 80% of responses being in the highest or lowest 2 of the Likert-type ratings.

Background: Chronic renal inflammation has been widely recognized as a major promoter of several forms of high blood pressure including salt-sensitive hypertension. In diabetes, IL (interleukin)-6 induces salt sensitivity through a dysregulation of the epithelial sodium channel. However, the origin of this inflammatory process and the molecular events that culminates with an abnormal regulation of epithelial sodium channel and salt sensitivity in diabetes are largely unknown.

Objectives: This practice parameter (PP) for Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) DOTATATE peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) aims to guide authorized users in selection of appropriate adult candidates with gastroeneropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) from foregut, midgut, and hindgut. The essential selection criteria include somatostatin receptor-positive GEP-NETs, which are usually inoperable and progressed despite standard therapy. Lu-177 DOTATATE is a radiopharmaceutical with high avidity for somatostatin receptors that are overexpressed by these tumors.

Methionine addiction, found in all types of cancer investigated, is because of the overuse of methionine by cancer cells for excess transmethylation reactions. In the present study, we compared the histone H3 lysine-methylation status and degree of malignancy between methionine-addicted cancer cells and their isogenic methionine-independent revertants, selected by their growth in low concentration of methionine. The methionine-independent revertans can grow on low levels of methionine or independently of exogenous methionine using methionine precursors, as do normal cells.

Dermatology and rheumatology trainees presented their work on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). This report briefly reviews 5 oral presentations: prediction of cardiovascular events in psoriatic disease (PsD), correlation between spine abnormalities and clinical findings, biomechanical stress as a trigger for PsA, differences in DNA methylation among twins with PsD, and critical proteins associated with induction of PsD.

Cervical cancer constitutes a significant health burden for women globally. While most patients with early-stage disease can be cured with radical surgery or chemoradiotherapy, patients with high-risk locally advanced disease or with recurrent/metastatic disease have a poor prognosis with standard treatments. Immunotherapies are a rational treatment for this HPV-driven cancer that commonly expresses programmed cell death ligand-1.

Background And Objectives: Naming decline after left temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) surgery is common and difficult to predict. The RANGE study (NCT02426125) evaluated ramucirumab (an anti-VEGFR2 monoclonal antibody) in patients with platinum-refractory advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC). Here, we use programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunohistochemistry (IHC) and transcriptome analysis to evaluate the association of immune and angiogenesis pathways, and molecular subtypes, with overall survival (OS) in UC. Higher PD-L1 IHC and immune pathway scores, but not angiogenesis scores, are associated with greater ramucirumab OS benefit.
