Latinx populations face a higher burden of kidney failure and associated negative outcomes compared with non-Latinx White populations, despite sharing a similar prevalence of CKD. Community health worker (CHW) interventions have been shown to improve outcomes for Latinx individuals, but they are largely underutilized in kidney disease. We convened a workshop of four ongoing kidney disease CHW programs to identify successes, challenges, potential solutions, and needed research to promote CHW programs for Latinx individuals with kidney disease.

Background: Hispanic ethnic density (HED) is a marker of better health outcomes among Hispanic patients with chronic disease. It is unclear whether community HED is associated with mortality risk among ethnically diverse patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients in the United States cohort of the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) database (2011-2015) was conducted (n = 4226).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between neighborhood disadvantage and Oncotype DX score, a surrogate for tumor biology, among a national cohort.
Background: Women living in disadvantaged neighborhoods have shorter breast cancer (BC) survival, even after accounting for individual-level, tumor, and treatment characteristics. This suggests unaccounted social and biological mechanisms by which neighborhood disadvantage may impact BC survival.

Objective To describe the development process of a patient-centered initiative focused on improving primary care health outcomes of patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and needle-related anxiety using evidence-based practices and novel approaches that can be implemented in outpatient settings. The overall outcome of the program is to increase vaccine uptake and accessibility in the IDD population as well as improve needle-related procedures in primary care settings to be more humane and effective. Methods The development process occurred in the context of a large healthcare system serving a diverse patient population in the U.

Objective Patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience needle phobia at greater rates than individuals in the general population. Needle phobia deters patients with IDD from receiving routine medical procedures, which impacts their physical health outcomes. The aim of this quality improvement study was to assess the feasibility of a minimal sedation protocol in an outpatient care setting for patients with IDD and needle phobia.

Objective: Progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) is the leading cause of death in systemic sclerosis (SSc). This study aimed to develop a clinical prediction nomogram using clinical and biological data to assess risk of PPF among patients receiving treatment of SSc-related interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD).
Methods: Patients with SSc-ILD who participated in the Scleroderma Lung Study II (SLS II) were randomized to treatment with either mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or cyclophosphamide (CYC).

Background: The leukodystrophy "Vanishing White Matter" (VWM) is an orphan disease with neurological decline and high mortality. Currently, VWM has no approved treatments, but advances in understanding pathophysiology have led to identification of promising therapies. Several investigational medicinal products are either in or about to enter clinical trial phase.

The term artifactual hypoglycemia refers to a discrepancy between plasma glucose levels and what is noted on fingerstick glucose checks. In this report, we discuss the cases of two patients with scleroderma and Raynaud's phenomenon who developed artifactual hypoglycemia while recovering from critical illness. In both cases, validation by earlobe measurements helped avoid further escalation of care and potential patient safety issues.

Background: The administration of antibiotic prophylaxis for implant-based breast augmentation (IBBA) is commonplace among many plastic surgeons. However, the current literature lacks evidence-based recommendations to support this practice. Although few studies have demonstrated a reduction in surgical site infection (SSI) and capsular contracture (CC) with antibiotics, these studies were underpowered and poorly designed.

Background: Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring is a proven predictor for future adverse cardiovascular events (CVE) in asymptomatic individuals. Data is emerging regarding the usefulness of non-calcified plaque (NCP) assessment on cardiac computed tomography (CCT) angiography in symptomatic patients with a zero CAC score for further risk assessment.
Methods: A retrospective review from January 2019 to January 2022 of 696 symptomatic patients with no known CAD and a zero CAC score identified 181 patients with NCP and 515 patients without NCP by a visual assessment on CCT angiography.

Background: Dysthyroidism (DT) is a common toxicity of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and prior work suggests that dysthyroidism (DT) might be associated with ICI efficacy.
Patients And Methods: ConSoRe, a new generation data mining solution, was used in this retrospective study, to extract data from electronic patient records of adult cancer patients treated with ICI at Institut Paoli-Calmettes (Marseille, France). Every DT was verified and only ICI-induced DT was retained.
