Purpose: Stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome is characterized by migraines, seizures, and stroke-like symptoms following brain irradiation. Diagnosis consists of clinical signs, history of brain irradiation, and radiographic evaluation. The latency to onset varies widely among individual patients, ranging from 1 to 35 years.

Rationale: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been implicated in interstitial lung disease (ILD) as majority of studies have been comprised of patients with known RA. However, it remains unclear whether an underlying risk for RA in combination with genetic risk for pulmonary fibrosis is associated with radiological markers of early lung injury and fibrosis in broader population samples.
Objective: Determine whether genetic and serological biomarkers of RA risk in combination with the (rs35705950) risk allele (T) are associated with interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) on computed tomography (CT) scans.

Background: Epidermoid cysts (ECs) are rare, benign lesions which comprise less than 1 % of all spinal tumors. Calcification of spinal ECs is rare, and EC ossification within the lumbar spine has never been documented. We report the only known congenital lumbar epidermoid tumor with ossification and a literature review of intradural lumbar ECs.

Background: Growing evidence indicates that trimethylamine -oxide, a gut microbial metabolite of dietary choline and carnitine, promotes both cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease risk. It remains unclear how circulating concentrations of trimethylamine -oxide and its related dietary and gut microbe-derived metabolites (choline, betaine, carnitine, γ-butyrobetaine, and crotonobetaine) affect incident heart failure (HF).
Methods: We evaluated 11 768 participants from the Cardiovascular Health Study and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis with serial measures of metabolites.

Background: Prenatal fish intake is a key source of omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids needed for brain development, yet intake is generally low, and studies addressing associations with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related traits are lacking.
Objective: This study aimed to examine associations of prenatal fish intake and ω-3 supplement use with both autism diagnosis and broader autism-related traits.
Methods: Participants were drawn from 32 cohorts in the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Cohort Consortium.

Aims/hypothesis: Mutations in Isl1, encoding the insulin enhancer-binding protein islet-1 (ISL1), may contribute to attenuated insulin secretion in type 2 diabetes mellitus. We made an Isl1 mouse model to investigate the disease-causing mechanism of diabetes mellitus.
Methods: The ISL1 mutation (c.

Background: Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence (SSCD) is a dehiscence of the otic capsule which normally lies over the superior semicircular canal. This database constitutes the largest series of SSCD patients to date.
Objective: To determine what preoperative factors, if any, contribute to postoperative outcomes and evaluate symptom resolution in a large SSCD patient cohort.

Background: DuraMatrix-Onlay Plus is a collagen dura membrane derived from purified bovine Achilles tendon. The matrix provides a scaffold for collagen synthesis and is intended to be used as an onlay without the need for dural sutures. The study aims to describe our experience with 33 consecutive patients who underwent a duraplasty procedure using the novel DuraMatrix-Onlay Plus collagen dura membrane.

Coronary artery calcification (CAC), a measure of subclinical atherosclerosis, predicts future symptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD). Identifying genetic risk factors for CAC may point to new therapeutic avenues for prevention. Currently, there are only four known risk loci for CAC identified from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in the general population.

Background And Aims: Inhibition of Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone-System (RAAS) has been hypothesized to improve endothelial function and reduce plaque inflammation, however, their impact on the progression of coronary atherosclerosis is unclear. We aim to study the effects of RAAS inhibitor on plaque progression and composition assessed by serial coronary CT angiography (CCTA).
Methods: We performed a prospective, multinational study consisting of a registry of patients without history of CAD, who underwent serial CCTAs.

is a commensal fungus that colonizes the human oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract but also causes mucosal as well as invasive disease. The expression of virulence traits in clinical isolates is heterogeneous and the genetic basis of this heterogeneity is of high interest. The reference strain SC5314 is highly invasive and expresses robust filamentation and biofilm formation relative to many other clinical isolates.

People with HIV (PWH) experience an increased vulnerability to premature aging and inflammation-associated comorbidities, even when HIV replication is suppressed by antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, the factors that contribute to or are associated with this vulnerability remain uncertain. In the general population, alterations in the glycomes of circulating IgGs trigger inflammation and precede the onset of aging-associated diseases.

Unlabelled: is a diploid human fungal pathogen that displays significant genomic and phenotypic heterogeneity over a range of virulence traits and in the context of a variety of environmental niches. Here, we show that the effects of Rob1 on biofilm and filamentation virulence traits is dependent on both the specific environmental condition and the clinical strain of . The reference strain SC5314 is a heterozygote with two alleles that differ by a single nucleotide polymorphism at position 946 resulting in a serine or proline containing isoform.

Background: Substantial variation in Agatston scores (AS) acquired with different computed tomography (CT) scanners may influence patient risk classification.
Objectives: This study sought to develop a calibration tool for state-of-the-art CT systems resulting in vendor-neutral AS (vnAS), and to assess the impact of vnAS on coronary heart disease (CHD) event prediction.
Methods: The vnAS calibration tool was derived by imaging 2 anthropomorphic calcium containing phantoms on 7 different CT and 1 electron beam tomography system, which was used as the reference system.

Late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (LINCL) and juvenile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (JNCL) are inherited neurodegenerative diseases caused by mutations in the genes encoding lysosomal proteins tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1) and CLN3 protein, respectively. TPP1 is well-understood and, aided by animal models that accurately recapitulate the human disease, enzyme replacement therapy has been approved and other promising therapies are emerging. In contrast, there are no effective treatments for JNCL, partly because the function of the CLN3 protein remains unknown but also because animal models have attenuated disease and lack robust survival phenotypes.

Phosphorus is an essential micromineral with a key role in cellular metabolism and tissue structure. Serum phosphorus is maintained in a homeostatic range by the intestines, bones, and kidneys. This process is coordinated by the endocrine system through the highly integrated actions of several hormones, including FGF23, PTH, Klotho, and 1,25D.

Objective: Surgical recovery of meningiomas relies on a variety of factors, including tumor volume, vascularity, embolization status, and blood loss during excision. Although hypervascular meningiomas can potentially be amendable to embolization, methods for determining optimal vascularity for this procedure are currently lacking. Our group previously established the meningioma vascularity index (MVI) as a marker of tumor vascularity.
