The inhibition of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) activity prevents tau hyperphosphorylation and binds it to the microtubule network. Therefore, a GSK-3β inhibitor may be a recommended drug for Alzheimer's treatment. In silico methods are currently considered as one of the fastest and most cost-effective available alternatives for drug/design discovery in the field of treatment.

Razi Herbal Medicines Research Center and Department of Environmental Health, School of Health and Nutrition, Lorestan University of Medical Sciences, Khorramabad, Iran.

The resistance of hospital bacterial isolates against traditional germicides, which used frequently, is one of the important factors contributing to emerging nosocomial infections. Moreover, due to having the side effects of chemical substances, the development of novel low-risk natural compounds seems necessary for control the spread of resistant pathogens in hospital environments. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of carvacrol and glutaraldehyde against two common hospital acquired pathogens, including and .

Infection with is rare in Iraq since it has been recorded only twice by Ministry of Health. In the current study, the morphology of the parasite is evaluated to explain the basic structure of the parasite parasitizing a human body in Iraq, including the adult worm and the egg stage which is considered the diagnostic stage for the detection of the intestinal parasite in the stool sample. The assessment of the adult worm showed that it was white in color and had a pseudo-segmented shape, lacked the digestive system or alimentary canal, and was 133 mm in length.

Toxocara species are parasitic nematodes of dogs and cats with a worldwide distribution. The adult worm lives in the intestine, and horizontal transmission of the infection occurs through eating paratenic host or embryonated eggs. This study aimed to estimate the molecular prevalence of Toxocara species in stray cats using the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique.

Comparison of Wound Infection in Uncomplicated Acute Appendicitis by Subcuticular Suture and Interrupted Suture.

Infect Disord Drug Targets

September 2021

Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, Shahid Madani Hospital, Alborz University of Medical Sciences, Karaj, Iran.

Background: Postoperative complications such as wound infection and scarring are some of the major concerns regarding suturing techniques. This study is designed to evaluate postoperative outcomes of adhering subcuticular sutures in comparison to the interrupted suturing method in patients who underwent appendectomy for uncomplicated acute appendicitis.

Methods: 240 patients were randomly assigned into two groups; 120 with interrupted and 120 subcuticular sutures after an appendectomy, at Shohada Ashayer hospital, Khorramabad, Iran.

Muscle-specific miRNAs, which are known as MyomiRs, are crucial regulatory elements for cardiovascular development. MyomiRs are abundantly expressed in the myocardium and regulate certain aspects of physiological and pathological processes in myocardiocytes, including cardiovascular development, myocardial remodeling, and arise for cardiovascular diseases through different mechanisms, such as epigenetic pathways. Clinical and experimental studies have confirmed the myomiRs as promising diagnostic biomarkers for the early diagnosis of cardiac disorders.

Due to defects and drawbacks of most conventional diagnostic methods including serology for the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis as a dangerous opportunistic infection in immunocompromised individuals, the accurate, rapid, and sensitive detection of infection in such patients is essential. In this study, the TaqMan probe-based real-time PCR and, a relatively new nucleic acid amplification method, the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique was compared based on the repetitive elements (RE) sequence to detect Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) DNA in blood samples of immunocompromised individuals.

Purpose: Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) experience the burden of 80% of new childhood cancer cases worldwide, with cure rates as low as 10% in some countries. Metronomics combines frequent administrations of low-dose chemotherapy with drug repurposing, which consists of using already-approved drugs for new medical applications. With wide availability, limited costs, and little infrastructure needs, metronomics can be part of constraint-adapted regimens in these resource-limited settings-with the understanding that metronomics shall not be a substitute for standard treatments when available and doable.
