Tumor starvation therapy utilizing glucose oxidase (GOx), has gained traction due to its non-invasive and bio-safe attributes. However, its effectiveness is often hampered by severe hypoxia in the tumor microenvironment (TME), limiting GOx's catalytic activity. To address this issue, a multifunctional nanosystem based on mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles (MPDA NPs) was developled to alleviate TME hypoxia.

The aim of this study was to determine the role of lncRNA PART1 and downstream FUT6 in tumorigenesis and progression of head and neck cancer (HNC). Bioinformatics analysis and qRT-PCR revealed that lncRNA PART1 was expressed at low levels in HNC patients. The proliferation, apoptosis, migration and flow cytometry results showed that low expression of lncRNA PART1 inhibited apoptosis and promoted HNC cell migration and proliferation.

Articular cartilage injuries present a significant global challenge, particularly in the aging population. These injuries not only restrict movement due to primary damage but also exacerbate elderly degenerative lesions, leading to secondary cartilage injury and osteoarthritis. Addressing osteoarthritis and cartilage damage involves overcoming several technical challenges in biological treatment.

Background: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) refers to symptoms of diarrhea that cannot be explained by other causes after the use of antibiotics. AAD is thought to be caused by a disruption of intestinal ecology due to antibiotics. Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) is a treatment method that involves transferring microbial communities from the feces of healthy individuals into the patient's gut.

The high mobility group nucleosome binding (HMGN) family, constitutes a large family of non-histone protein family known to bind the acidic patch of the nucleosomes with various key cellular functions. Several studies have highlighted the pivotal roles of HMGNs in the pathogenic process of various cancer types. However, the roles of HMGN family in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) have not been fully elucidated.

Introduction: Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks are commonly used for postoperative analgesia after various abdominal surgeries. There are several different approaches for performing TAP blocks, mainly including posterior, lateral and subcostal approaches. An increasing number of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have compared the analgesic effects of different TAP block approaches, but the results have not been consistent.

Background: The diagnostic potential of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in circulating exosomes for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is not well understood, despite existing research indicating their role in cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to clarify the significance of exosomal circular RNAs as indicators for AMI.
Methods: We examined 120 individuals diagnosed with AMI and 83 individuals with non-cardiogenic chest pain (NCCP), all previously enrolled in a conducted study.

The purpose of this multicentre study was to evaluate the efficacy of the 'dredging-marsupialization-curettage' (D-M-C) strategy in the treatment of conventional intraosseous ameloblastoma of the mandible. A total of 31 patients from three institutions, who had a pathological diagnosis of conventional ameloblastoma of the mandible, were treated with the D-M-C strategy. The surgical protocol comprised a dredging and marsupialization (D-M) step, with additional D-M steps as required.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the most severe cardiovascular event in clinical settings, imposes a significant burden with its annual increase in morbidity and mortality rates. However, it is noteworthy that mortality due to AMI in developed countries has experienced a decline, largely attributable to the advancements in medical interventions such as percutaneous coronary intervention. This trend highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis and effective treatment to preserve the myocardium at risk and improve patient outcomes.

Maintaining post-operative mechanical stability is crucial for successfully healing intertrochanteric fractures treated with the Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) system. This stability is primarily dependent on the bone mineral density (BMD) and strain on the fracture. Current PFNA failure analyses often overlook the uncertainties related to BMD and body weight (BW).

Extensive research has delved into the multifaceted roles of osteoclasts beyond their traditional function in bone resorption in recent years, uncovering their significant influence on bone formation. This shift in understanding has spurred investigations into engineering strategies aimed at leveraging osteoclasts to not only inhibit bone resorption but also facilitate bone regeneration. This review seeks to comprehensively examine the mechanisms by which osteoclasts impact bone metabolism.

Background & Aims: Benign ulcerative colorectal diseases (UCDs) such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, ischemic colitis, and intestinal tuberculosis share similar phenotypes with different etiologies and treatment strategies. To accurately diagnose closely related diseases like UCDs, we hypothesize that contextual learning is critical in enhancing the ability of the artificial intelligence models to differentiate the subtle differences in lesions amidst the vastly divergent spatial contexts.
Methods: White-light colonoscopy datasets of patients with confirmed UCDs and healthy controls were retrospectively collected.

Stem cell therapies have shown great potential for treating myocardial infarction (MI) but are limited by low cell survival and compromised functionality due to the harsh microenvironment at the disease site. Here, we presented a Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) spheroid-based strategy for MI treatment by introducing a protein/polyphenol self-assembling armor coating on the surface of cell spheroids, which showed significantly enhanced therapeutic efficacy by actively manipulating the hostile pathological MI microenvironment and enabling versatile functionality, including protecting the donor cells from host immune clearance, remodeling the ROS microenvironment and stimulating MSC's pro-healing paracrine secretion. The underlying mechanism was elucidated, wherein the armor protected to prolong MSCs residence at MI site, and triggered paracrine stimulation of MSCs towards immunoregulation and angiogenesis through inducing hypoxia to provoke glycolysis in stem cells.

The sialic acid binding Ig like lectin 15 (Siglec-15) was previously identified as tumor immune suppressor gene in some human cancers with elusive molecular mechanism to be elucidated. The continuous focus on both clinical and basic biology of bladder cancer leads us to characterize aberrant abundance of BACH1-IT2 associating with stabilization of Siglec-15, which eventually contributes to local immune suppressive microenvironment and therefore tumor advance. This effect was evidently mediated by miR-4786-5p.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative disease that primarily includes articular cartilage destruction and inflammatory reactions, and effective treatments for this disease are still lacking. The present study aimed to explore the protective effects of ectoine, a compatible solute found in nature, on chondrocytes in rats and its possible application in OA treatment. In the in vitro studies, the morphology of the chondrocytes after trypsin digestion for 2 min and the viability of the chondrocytes at 50°C were observed after ectoine treatment.

Objectives: Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is a potent α2-adrenergic receptor(α2-AR) agonist that has been shown to protect against sepsis-induced lung injury, however, the underlying mechanisms of this protection are not fully understood. Autophagy and the Smad2/3 signaling pathway play important roles in sepsis-induced lung injury, but the relationship between Dex and Smad2/3 is not clear. This study aimed to investigate the role of autophagy and the Smad2/3 signaling pathway in Dex-mediated treatment of sepsis-induced lung injury.
