Hysteresis in the underdamped three-layer model.

Sci Rep

July 2020

Department of Theoretical and Condensed Matter Physics-020, "Vinča" Institute of Nuclear Sciences, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, PO Box 522, 11001, Belgrade, Serbia.

The hysteretic phenomena were investigated in the three-layer model consisting of a chain of harmonically interacting atoms confined between two rigid periodical substrate potentials, where the top substrate was driven by a external force. The pinning to running and the running-to pinning transitions were examined as the driving force was varied and the influence of the equilibrium spacing and strength of the interaction of the particles in the middle layer on the static and kinetic friction force analyzed in detail. The parameter space in which the friction forces could reach their maxima or minima was determined.

The development of tight oil has started relatively late, and the flow mechanisms and fluid movability are still research spotlights. The goal of this paper is to investigate the percolation characteristics and fluid movability of the Chang 6 tight sandstone oil layer in the Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin, China. Results show that (1) at low flow velocity, the percolation curve of flow velocity vs pressure gradient is a concave-up nonlinear curve and does not pass through the origin.

Background: Survival of plants in response to salinity stress is typically related to Na toxicity, but little is known about how heterologous high-affinity potassium transporter (HKT) may help alleviate salt-induced damages in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.).

Results: In this study, we used the Arabidopsis thaliana high-affinity potassium transporter gene (AtHKT1) to enhance the capacity of potato plants to tolerate salinity stress by decreasing Na content and improving K/Na ratio in plant leaves, while maintaining osmotic balance.

A novel nano fluorescent starch, starch-bearing 3-epoxypropoxy fluorescein (ST-EF) was developed by a simple method. First, 3-epoxypropoxy fluorescein (EF) was prepared via a nucleophilic substitution reaction between fluorescein and epichlorohydrin. Then, ST-EF was synthesized via a ring-opening reaction to attach fluorescein to native cassava starch chains.

Light is a major environmental factor that affects metabolic pathways and stimulates the production of secondary metabolites in potato. However, adaptive changes in potato metabolic pathways and physiological functions triggered by light are partly explained by gene expression changes. Regulation of secondary metabolic pathways in potato has been extensively studied at transcriptional level, but little is known about the mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation by miRNAs.

ATM mediates spermidine-induced mitophagy via PINK1 and Parkin regulation in human fibroblasts.

Sci Rep

April 2016

Gansu Key Laboratory of Biomonitoring and Bioremediation for Environmental Pollution, School of Life Sciences, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, China.

The ATM (ataxia telangiectasia mutated) protein has recently been proposed to play critical roles in the response to mitochondrial dysfunction by initiating mitophagy. Here, we have used ATM-proficient GM00637 cells and ATM-deficient GM05849 cells to investigate the mitophagic effect of spermidine and to elucidate the role of ATM in spermdine-induced mitophagy. Our results indicate that spermidine induces mitophagy by eliciting mitochondrial depolarization, which triggers the formation of mitophagosomes and mitolysosomes, thereby promoting the accumulation of PINK1 and translocation of Parkin to damaged mitochondria, finally leading to the decreased mitochondrial mass in GM00637 cells.
