BMC Nephrol

May 2009

Department of Pediatrics, Division of Nephrology, Schneider Children's Hospital, New Hyde Park, New York of North Shore-LIJ Health System, Long Island Campus of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA.

Background: Previous studies have examined the spectrum of diseases identified with a kidney biopsy and the complications of the procedure. However, few studies have examined the utility of the test to clarify the diagnosis and guide treatment of pediatric patients. This retrospective, single-center chart review was performed to test the hypothesis that at least 80% of native kidney biopsies provide clinically valuable information that rationally guides diagnosis and patient management.

Bisphosphonate complications including osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Hematology Am Soc Hematol Educ Program

June 2007

Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Long Island Campus of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, 270-05 76th Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, USA.

Bisphosphonate therapy has been incorporated in the standard management of patients with multiple myeloma-related bony disease. Although their efficacy in reducing skeletal related events is important in the supportive management of the myeloma patient, post-marketing experience with this class of agents, particularly the more potent intravenous agents pamidronate and zoledronic acid, have raised cautionary notes regarding the potential side effects of these agents. The focus of this session is to review the risk factors, incidence, prevention strategies and management of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Uses of Indium pentetreotide scintigraphy include tumor and metastases detection, familial tumor screening, and surveillance for recurrence. Using target to background ratios (TBR) could generate a comparative scale for these tumors.

Reduced protease inhibitory capacity in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms is reversed with surgical repair.

J Vasc Surg

April 2002

Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Long Island Campus of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, North Shore-LIJ Health System, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, USA.

Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) disease is a complex degenerative process that is associated with elevated proteolytic activity. This increased proteolytic activity may be linked to an imbalance in the protease regulatory mechanisms. We hypothesize that reduced AAA plasma inhibitory capacity is related to increased elastolytic activity observed in patients with AAA, which promotes matrix degradation in the aortic wall and AAA expansion.
