Objectives: Frailty and sarcopenia have been related with adverse events, including hospitalization. However, its combined effect with hospitalization-related outcomes, including costs, has not been previously investigated. Our purpose was to explore how frailty, sarcopenia and its interaction could impact on healthcare expenditures.

Background: While the majority of patients with Alzheimer's disease resides in low and middle-income countries, little is known of their preparedness for emerging disease-modifying treatments. We analyze the preparedness of Brazil, one of the most populous middle-income countries, from a capacity and institutional preparedness perspective.
Methods: Desk research and 12 interviews for background and capacity data.

Background: The current study aimed to describe the trends in gender, ethnicity, and education inequalities of types of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) practiced by Brazilian adults from 2006 to 2019.
Methods: We used data from 2006 to 2019 of the Brazilian Surveillance System for Risk and Protective Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey, which is an annual survey with a representative sample of adults (≥ 18y) living in state capital cities. The types of LTPA considered were walking, running, strength/gymnastics, sports, other LTPA, and no LTPA participation.

Introduction: Adults with asthma may have limitations in their activities of daily living (ADL) and among the most used tests to assess ADL, performance-based instruments such as the Glittre-Activities of Daily Living (Glittre-ADL) test are available. However, metric properties of this instrument have not yet been investigated in this population.
Objective: To verify the construct validity and reliability of the Glittre-ADL test in adults with asthma.

Calsequestrin 1 (CASQ1) and Ryanodine receptor 1 (RYR1) are two of the main players in excitation-contraction (EC) coupling. CASQ1-knockout mice and mice carrying a mutation in RYR1 (Y522S) linked to human malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS) both suffer lethal hypermetabolic episodes when exposed to halothane (MHS crises) and to environmental heat (heat stroke, HS). The phenotype of Y522S is more severe than that of CASQ1-null mice.

Purpose: Prostate cancer (PCa) lacks specific markers capable of distinguishing aggressive tumors from those with indolent behavior. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the immunostaining of candidate proteins (PTEN, AKT, TRPM8, and NKX3.1) through the immunohistochemistry technique (IHC) on patients with metastatic and non-metastatic PCa.

This study evaluated the association of body mass index (BMI) with mortality, length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), and length of hospital stay in major burn patients. It was a retrospective cohort study that was originally conducted from January 2017 to January 2020 and that used data from patients admitted to the intensive care unit for burns at a university hospital. The patients were divided into groups for the purposes of comparing relevant variables according to their BMI.

To assess the immediate effect of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and neurofunctional physiotherapy (NPT) on postural control (PC) and executive function (EF) of individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). Forty subjects from mild-to-moderate PD stages, with no cognitive impairment were submitted to one session of NPT, one session of AR, and one session of VR for 50 minutes each (7 days interval between them). PC was evaluated before and after each therapy, using force platform in bipedal positions: tandem with eyes opened (EO), eyes closed (EC), and with double-task and one-legged stance.

Excessive use of herbicides decreases soil biodiversity and fertility. The literature on the xenobiotic response by microorganisms is focused on herbicide biodegradation as a selective event. Non-degradation systems independent of selection could allow the survival of tolerant bacteria in contaminated environments, impacting xenobiotic turnover and, consequently, bioremediation strategies.

Resistance training has been proposed as a valid practice to counteract the aging effect on body mass and its components, which can be easily evaluated though the bioelectrical impedance analysis. This study aimed to achieve a systematic review with meta-analysis on the impact of resistance training on bioelectrical proprieties in older adults.A literature review was done in four electronic databases up to 1 January 2022.

Preclinical studies have shown that diosgenin, a steroidal sapogenin, is a promising phytochemical for treating different pathological conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. However, the toxicological safety of this molecule for therapeutic use in humans needs to be better understood. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the mechanisms of action of diosgenin in HepG2/C3A human hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Hesperidin is derived from citrus fruits among other plants. Hesperidin was methylated to increase its solubility, generating hesperidin methyl chalcone (HMC), an emerging flavonoid that possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a powerful regulator of cellular resistance to oxidant products.

The encapsulation of atrazine into poly(epsilon-caprolactone) nanocapsules has been shown to improve the efficiency of the herbicide and decrease its environmental impacts. In the current work, we evaluated the efficiency of nanoatrazine in the post-emergence control of Colla plants and performed a meta-analysis to compare the results with studies already published with other weeds. The first experiment was carried out in the field, where we observed that nanoatrazine (at 200 g a.

Background: Olfactory dysfunction (OD)-including anosmia and hyposmia-is a common symptom of COVID-19. Previous studies have identified olfactory training (OT) as an important treatment for postinfectious OD; however, little is known about its benefits and optimizations after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Objective: This study aimed to assess whether olfactory training performance can be optimized using more fragrances over a shorter period of time in patients with persistent OD after COVID-19.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic disease related to a persistent inflammatory process reaching the central nervous system, which leads to psychiatric comorbidities such as depression and anxiety. The search for new therapeutic agents effective in alleviating the psychiatric condition associated with T1DM becomes critical. Using an animal model of T1DM, we aimed to evaluate the effect of a specific specialized pro-resolving lipid mediator Resolvin D5 (RvD5), in preventing behaviors related to depression and anxiety, investigating its influence on inflammasome in interleukin (IL)-1β in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.

Maresin-2 (MaR2) is a specialized pro-resolution lipid mediator (SPM) that reduces neutrophil recruitment in zymosan peritonitis. Here, we investigated the analgesic effect of MaR2 and its mechanisms in different mouse models of pain. For that, we used the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced mechanical hyperalgesia (electronic version of the von Frey filaments), thermal hyperalgesia (hot plate test) and weight distribution (static weight bearing), as well as the spontaneous pain models induced by capsaicin (TRPV1 agonist) or AITC (TRPA1 agonist).

Transcultural approaches comparing the distribution of lateral preference between countries focused primarily on handedness. However, other laterality dimensions may also be susceptible to cultural variations. The present study compared lateral preference in five dimensions (hand, foot, trunk, hearing, and visual) of young adults from Brazil and Mozambique.
