SARS-CoV-2, responsible for COVID-19, shares 79% and 50% of its identity with SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV, respectively. It uses the same main cell attachment and entry receptor as SARS-CoV-1, which is the ACE-2 receptor. However, key residues in the receptor-binding domain of its S-protein seem to give it a stronger affinity for the receptor and a better ability to hide from the host immune system.

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the most widely used tool for the measurement of kidney function, but endogenous biomarkers such as cystatin C and creatinine have limitations. A previous metabolomic study revealed ,,-trimethyl-L-alanyl-L-proline betaine (TMAP) to be reflective of kidney function. In this study, we developed a quantitative LCMS assay for the measurement of TMAP and evaluated TMAP as a biomarker of GFR.

Remodeling of the uterine vasculature by invasive extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs) is a critical aspect of human placentation. Insufficient EVT invasion can lead to severe obstetrical complications like preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and preterm birth. Glial cells missing-1 (GCM1) is a transcription factor that is crucial for proper placentation in mice, and is highly expressed in human syncytiotrophoblast (ST) and EVTs.

Background: Soft tissue management (STM) training programs for surgeons are largely tradition based, and substantial differences exist among different surgical specialties. The lack of comprehensive and systematic clinical evidence on how surgical techniques and implants affect soft tissue healing makes it difficult to develop evidence-based curricula. As a curriculum development group (CDG), we set out to find common grounds in the form of a set of consensus statements to serve as the basis for surgical soft tissue education.

() is a Gram-negative bacillus abundant in the environment and rarely implicated in human disease. Previously considered nonpathogenic, its scarcity in literature may be partly due to the unreliability of past phenotypic tests used for its identification. In recent years, the development of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry (MS) has enabled fast and accurate laboratory identification of .

Background: Intrinsic or acquired resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) is common, thus strategies for the management of EGFR-TKIs resistance are urgently required. Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of cell death that has been implicated in tumorigenesis and resistance treatment. Accumulating evidence suggests that ferroptosis can be therapeutically exploited for the treatment of solid tumors; however, whether ferroptosis can be targeted to treat mutant lung cancer and/or overcome the resistance to EGFR-TKIs is still unknown.

Acetabular fractures are known as one of the most frequent types of pelvic fractures with growing frequency among elderly people. Because of this, it is important to establish the methods of repair that will produce optimal outcomes for fracture healing and joint remobilization. Open reduction and internal fixation are considered as the "gold standard" of acetabular fracture repair; however, to the best of authors' knowledge, there is no systematic review comparing different repair methods from biomechanical point of view.
