In this work, an optimal protocol was developed for obtaining adhesion culture of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPC) of rat olfactory mucosa. During the development of the protocol, the conditions for cell culturing on adhesion substrates fibronectin and laminin in DMEM/F-12 and neurobasal media with the same culture additives were compared. Cell proliferation was maximum during culturing on both substrates in the neurobasal medium.

The QM/MM simulations followed by electron density feature analysis are carried out to deepen the understanding of the reaction mechanism of cephalosporin hydrolysis in the active site of the L1 metallo-β-lactamase. The differences in reactivity of ten similar cephalosporin compounds are explained by using an extended set of bonding descriptors. The limiting step of the reaction is characterized by the proton transfer to the nitrogen atom of the cephalosporin thiazine ring accompanied with formation of the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bond in its N-C-C fragment.

A new approach has been proposed and developed: the selection of optimal variants in the evolutionary mutation flow is considered as an analogue of a percolation filter. Interaction of mutations in a series of generations and random processes of drift determine the collective behavior of nodes (individuals - carriers and converters of mutations) and bonds (mutations) in the space of percolation lattice. It is shown that the choice of the development trajectory at the population level depends on the spectrum of supporting and prohibiting mutations under the influence of conjugate deterministic and random factors.

Fibrin is a well-known tool in tissue engineering, but the structure of its modifications created to improve its properties remains undiscussed despite its importance, in designing biomaterials that ensure cell migration and lumenogenesis. We sought to uncover the structural aspects of PEGylated fibrin hydrogels shown to contribute to angiogenesis. The analysis of the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) data and modeling revealed that the PEGylation of fibrinogen led to the formation of oligomeric species, which are larger at a higher PEG : fibrinogen molar ratio.

The first genetic study of the holotype of the Gansu short-tailed shrew, Thomas, 1912, is presented. The mitochondrial analysis demonstrated that the type specimen of is close to several recently collected specimens from southern Gansu, northern Sichuan and Shaanxi, which are highly distinct from the two species of Asiatic short-tailed shrews of southern Sichuan, Yunnan, and Vietnam, and . The propargylamide of N3-Pom-protected 5-(perylen-3-ylethynyl)uracil acetic acid, a universal precursor, was used in a CuAAC click reaction for the synthesis of several derivatives, including three ramified molecules with high activities against tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV). Pentaerythritol-based polyazides were used for the assembly of molecules containing 2⋯4 antiviral 5-(perylen-3-ylethynyl)uracil scaffolds, the first examples of polyvalent perylene antivirals. Cluster compounds showed enhanced absorbance, however, their fluorescence was reduced due to self-quenching.

Re-study of the type species of the genus Humes, 1999 (Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Schminkepinellidae) described from the Pacific Ocean (Juan de Fuca Ridge), and study of the species from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent field on the Central Ridge in the Indian Ocean revealed a derived feature and widespread geographic distribution of this deep-sea genus of cyclopoids. The derived feature of is the sexually dimorphic third endopodal segment of leg 3 possessing a small outer terminal spine together with spine-like outgrowths on this segment. The new species differs from Humes, 1999 in not expressing sexual dimorphism in leg 5, having three spines and one seta on its exopod in both sexes ( has three spines and one seta on the female exopod but three spines and two setae on the male exopod) and in having broader caudal rami which are 8.

Thermokarst lake landscapes are permafrost regions, which are prone to rapid (on seasonal to decadal time scales) changes, affecting carbon and nitrogen cycles. However, there is a high degree of uncertainty related to the balance between carbon and nitrogen cycling and storage. Human-induced climate change is expected to cause major biotic changes in species distributions and thereby including escalation of novel host-parasite associations. Closely related host species that come into secondary contact are especially likely to exchange parasites and pathogens. The structure of the male terminalia and their musculature of species of tanyderid genera Alexander, 1929 from Chile and Alexander, 1927 from Tasmania are examined and compared with each other and with published data on the likely relatives. The overall pattern of male terminalia of both genera is similar to those of most Southern Hemisphere genera, with simple curved gonostyli, lobe-like setose parameres, and setose cerci inconspicuous under the epandrium. Both genera have terminalia similarly rotated by 180° (and 90° as an intermediate stage); rotation may be either clockwise or counterclockwise.
