Bidirectional photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is an active research area. However, most studies have focused on its dependence on optical parameters rather than on its tissue-dependent effects. We constructed mouse models of wounds in three inflammatory states (normal, low, and high levels of inflammations) to assess the bidirectional regulatory effect of PBM on inflammation.

Purpose: In the local administration methods for treating eye diseases, the application of microneedles has great potential due to the shortcomings of low efficacy and significant side effects of local administration preparations. This article provides ideas for the research on the application of ophthalmic microneedle in the treatment of eye diseases.
Results: This article analyzes the physiological structures of the eyes, ocular diseases and its existing ocular preparations in sequence.

Non-invasive drug delivery offers a safe treatment while improving patient compliance. However, due to the particular physiological structure of the ocular, long-term retention and sustained drug release of the drug delivery system is crucial. Herein, this study aimed to design mPEG-CS-modified flexible liposomes-reinforced thermosensitive sol-gel reversible hydrogels (mPEG-CS-FL-TSG) for the delivery of astragaloside IV (AS-IV) and tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) to treat age-related macular degeneration.

Constructing a stable and robust solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is crucial for achieving dendrite-free sodium metal anodes and high-performance sodium batteries. However, maintaining the integrity of SEI during prolonged cycle life under high current densities poses a significant challenge. In this study, we propose an integrated multifunctional SEI layer with inorganic/organic hybrid construction (IOHL-Na) to enhance the durability of sodium metal anode during reduplicative plating/stripping processes.

Posterior ocular disease, a disease that accounts for 55% of all ocular diseases, can contribute to permanent vision loss if left without treatment. Due to the special structure of the eye, various obstacles make it difficult for drugs to reach lesions in the posterior ocular segment. Therefore, the development of highly permeable targeted drugs and delivery systems is particularly important.

The absorption of drugs was impeded in the posterior part of the eye due to the special structure. In addition, it was crucial to comprehend transport laws of molecules in ocular drug delivery for designing effective strategies. However, the current quality evaluation methods of the eye were backward and lack of dynamic monitoring of drug processes in vivo.

Cancer is a disease with a high mortality rate; therefore, research on new treatment strategies is essential. There has been increased interest in novel drug delivery systems (DDS) in recent years, such as calixarene, one of the most important principal molecules in supramolecular chemistry. Calixarene is a cyclic oligomer of phenolic units linked by methylene bridges that belongs to the third generation of supramolecular compounds.

Currently, the development of a new therapeutic technology is focused on antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), where ASOs are used to complementarily pair with DNA, messenger RNA, or long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) to regulate the cell behavior by inhibiting the target gene expression. However, the targeted regulation toward nuclear genes still faces great challenges in ASO delivery for clinical applications, i.e.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a frequent primary liver cancer, and it is one of the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a crucial risk factor for HCC. Thus, this study aimed to explore the prognostic role of HBV-positive HCC related specific genes in HCC.

Based on the actor-partner interdependence model, this paper studied the relationship between marital commitment, sacrifice behavior and marital quality of military couples. A convenience sample of 171 Chinese military couples from Guangdong, Jiangsu and Sichuan province was used. All participants completed the self-report questionnaires independently including the Dimension of Commitment Inventory (DCI), the Couples Sacrifice Behavior Scale (CSBS) and the Evaluation and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication and Happiness (ENRICH).

Background: Active-empathic listening (AEL) is the active and emotional involvement of a listener that can take place in at least three key stages of the listening process. Bodie has developed and validated a self-reported, 11-item, three-factor active-empathic listening scale (AELS) in English with good reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.86) to assess AEL abilities.

The acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) development is highly dynamic. Currently, no satisfactory algorithm identifies patients with HBV at risk of this complication. The aim of the study was to characterize ACLF development in hospitalized HBV-related patients without previous decompensation and to test the performance of traditional prognostic models in ruling out ACLF development within 28 days on admission we conducted a cohort study.

Coronary atherosclerotic heart disease poses a significant threat to human health. The pathological basis is atherosclerosis and foam-cell formation is the key factor in the initiation of atherosclerosis. In the present study, foam cell models were established using 50 ng/ml oxidized low-density lipoprotein to stimulate cultures of THP-1 cells for 72 h.

Despite long-term efforts for ischemia therapy, proangiogenic drugs hardly satisfy therapy/safety/cost/mass production multiple evaluations and meanwhile with a desire to minimize dosages, thereby clinical applications have been severely hampered. Recently, metal ion-based therapy has emerged as an effective strategy. Herein, intrinsically bioactive Zn metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were explored by bridging the dual superiorities of proangiogenic Zn and facile/cost-effective/scalable MOFs.

Hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) is a complicated syndrome with extremely high short-term mortality. Whether plasma exchange (PE) improves HBV-ACLF outcomes remains controversial. Here, PE-based non-bioartificial liver support system (NB-ALSS) effects on short-term HBV-ACLF patient outcomes were investigated.

Inhibiting vascular restenosis remains a tricky challenge for the postoperative development of cardiovascular interventional therapy. The ideal approaches should activate endothelial cells (ECs) and restrain smooth muscle cells (SMCs), however, they are commonly contradictory. Herein, a strategy was developed for synchronizing ECs promotion and SMCs inhibition by codelivery DNA and siRNA for combination therapy.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a severe complication, and its contribution to clinical adverse outcomes in patients with acute-on-chronic liver diseases from the East is unclear. We aimed to investigate the impact of hepatic encephalopathy on clinical characteristics and adverse outcomes in prospective and multicenter cohorts of patients with acute-on-chronic liver diseases. We conducted a cohort study of two multicenter prospective cohorts.

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) plays an important role in myocardial damage, which has been widely recognized as a key procedure in the cardiovascular disease. A hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) model was established using H9c2 cardiomyocytes to investigate the possible positive effect of oxymatrine (OMT), an alkaloid originating from the traditional Chinese herb Aiton, on cardiomyocytes exposed to H/R injury and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Cell viability was measured using the MTT assay, lactate dehydrogenase release measurements and hematoxylin and eosin staining.

Objective: To investigate whether blood-brain barrier (BBB) served a key role in the edema-relief effect of bloodletting puncture at hand twelve Jing-well points (HTWP) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the potential molecular signaling pathways.
Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to the sham-operated (sham), TBI, and bloodletting puncture (bloodletting) groups (n=24 per group) using a randomized number table. The TBI model rats were induced by cortical contusion and then bloodletting puncture were performed at HTWP twice a day for 2 days.
