Specific study about the inhibitory effect of costunolide (CN) and relevant mechanism is of great significance for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. Here, the pharmacological activity of costunolide on the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis was investigated in vivo and in vitro. The in vivo mice study, mice were received intratracheal injection of bleomycin (BLM, 5 mg/kg) on 0 day to obtain BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis firstly.

Increased 90-Day Mortality in Spontaneously Breathing Patients With Paraquat Poisoning: In Addition to Disease Severity, Lung Strain May Play a Role.

Crit Care Med

February 2019

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Target Organ Injury, Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and Heart Center, Pingjin Hospital, Logistics College of the Chinese People's Armed Police Forces, Tianjin, China.

Objectives: 1) To evaluate the prognostic roles of quantitative CT and pulmonary function tests and 2) to assess the association of dynamic strain and ventilation heterogeneity during unassisted spontaneous breathing with 90-day survival in patients with paraquat poisoning.

Design: Prospective study.

Setting: A university hospital ICU.

The aim of the present study was to validate, and if necessary update, a predictive model previously developed using a classification and regression tree (CART) algorithm for predicting successful extubation (ES) using a new cohort. This prospective cohort study enrolled adults admitted to 10 intensive care units, who had successfully passed a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) and were considered ready for extubation. After extubation, the patients were followed up for 48 h.

Objectives: 1) To evaluate the ability of pulse pressure variation adjusted by respiratory changes in pleural pressure to predict fluid responsiveness compared with pulse pressure variation alone. 2) To identify factors explaining the poor performance of pulse pressure variation in acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Design: Prospective study.

Effects of Mild Hypothermia Treatment on Rat Hippocampal β-Amyloid Expression Following Traumatic Brain Injury.

Ther Hypothermia Temp Manag

September 2013

Institute of Traumatic Brain Injury and Neuroscience, Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Pingjin Hospital , Logistics College of the Chinese People's Armed Police Forces, Tianjin, China .

Previous studies have reported that mild induced hypothermia (MIH) treatment has positive effects on traumatic brain injury (TBI) outcomes, which have recently been linked to β-amyloid (Aβ)-induced secondary brain injury (SBI) extent in hippocampal tissues. We therefore investigate the relationship between MIH treatment and expression of Aβ and related proteins following TBI. Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three equal groups (S: sham-operated, N: normothermia, and H: mild hypothermia).

Article Synopsis
  • Stem cell transplantation has potential for treating traumatic brain injury (TBI), but low survival rates of grafted cells due to toxic environments hinder clinical use.
  • Mild hypothermia has been shown to improve conditions post-TBI and may enhance the survival of temperature-sensitive stem cells when used in combination therapy.
  • In studies, temperature-sensitive umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (tsUCSMCs) paired with mild hypothermia significantly improved motor and cognitive functions in TBI rat models, leading to higher survival rates and less cell death.
