Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment disease, and it is a subject of great interest and concern to medical professionals and the general public. Our study aims to analyze and compare the quality and accuracy of the information related to CTS provided by social media platforms (SMPs) and the new large language models (LLM).

Methods: On YouTube, the first 20 videos in English and the first 20 videos in Spanish when searching for "carpal tunnel syndrome" and "síndrome túnel carpo" were selected.

Dementia clinical trials often fail to include diverse and historically minoritized groups. We sought to adapt the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias-Palliative Care (ADRD-PC) clinical trial to improve enrollment and address the cultural needs of people with late-stage ADRD who identify as Hispanic or Latino and their family caregivers. Bilingual, bicultural research team members adapted study materials and processes using the Cultural Adaptation Process Model.

Many new circulating recombinant forms (CRFs) and unique recombinant forms (URFs) of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) have been discovered in populations with multiple circulating HIV-1 genotypes. In this study, we report two novel URFs derived from two HIV-1-positive individuals in Hebei, China, who were infected through homosexual (BDD142) and heterosexual (BDD154) contact. Phylogenetic and recombinant analyses of the two NFLG revealed that they are second-generation recombinant strains originating from the CRF01_AE cluster 4/B and CRF01_AE cluster 5/B strains.

In the search for novel natural products with hepatoprotective effects against acetaminophen-induced acute liver injury, the marine-derived fungus WHUF0198 was investigated. Seventeen undescribed pyranopyridone alkaloids, aculeapyridones A-Q (-), were isolated by bioactivity-guided fractionation of an extract obtained by coculture of the WHUF0198 with the mangrove-associated fungus sp. DM27.

To assess efficacy and safety of dapsone in adult immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) and a real-word study cohort were performed. Participants were adults with primary ITP, transient response to corticosteroids ± intravenous immunoglobulin, and a platelet count ≤ 30x109/L (or ≤ 50x109/L with bleeding). Patients in the RCT were randomized in arm A (prednisone x3weeks+dapsone for 12 months) or arm B (prednisone alone).

Purpose: Although publicly available cancer-related information online and offline could help patients make informed decisions, it also poses challenges due to prevalent misinformation. Patients need proper provider guidance to ensure they use valid and relevant information in decisions. We identify effective communication approaches for providers when (1) discussing patient-identified information and (2) disagreeing with it.

High-grade-B-cell lymphoma (HGBL) with MYC and BCL2 and/or BCL6 rearrangements (double hit [HGBL-DH] or triple hit [HGBL-TH]), or not otherwise specified (HGBL-NOS), are considered to be more aggressive diseases among large B-cell lymphomas (LBCL). CD19-targeting Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cells have changed the prognosis of chemoresistant LBCL. Clinical and pathological data of patients treated for relapsed/refractory LBCL or HGBL in third line or more, all characterized by FISH, were collected from the French DESCAR-T registry.

: The purpose of this study was to quantify the impact of smartphone use while sitting on the toilet on the spinal flexion angles and the time effect. : Measurements of the spinal flexion angles in the sagittal plane were made by thirty participants while they sat on the toilet for 10 min, using a smartphone in either one, both, or neither hand. The individual's forehead, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal areas were each fitted with five different inertial motion sensors.

Kinematic synergy of speed reduction during stair descent.

Acta Bioeng Biomech

June 2024

1Physical Therapy Course, Faculty of Welfare and Health Science, Oita University, Japan.

: This study aimed to quantify multi-segmental coordination using Uncontrolled Manifold (UCM) analysis to examine the effect of speed reduction on the control of stair descent. : Twenty healthy participants performed stair descent at a self-comfortable pace for normal speed conditions and at a slow speed set to a metronome rhythm of 60 beats/min. UCM analysis was separately conducted for the center of mass (COM) and swing foot, with anteroposterior and vertical movements designated as task variables, and segment angles defined as elemental variables.

: This study explores how thoracic orientation affects lung pressure and injury outcomes from shock waves, building on earlier research that suggested human posture impacts injury severity. : A layered finite element model of the chest was constructed based on the Chinese Visual Human Dataset (CVH), including the rib and intercostal muscle layers. The dynamic response of the chest under 12 different angle-oriented shock waves under incident pressures of 200 kPa and 500 kPa was calculated.

Deciphering the complex clonal heterogeneity of polycythemia vera and the response to interferon alpha.

Blood Adv

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Oncology, Hemostaseology, and Stem Cell Transplantation, Medical Faculty, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany.

Interferon alpha (IFNa) is approved for the therapy of patients (pts) with polycythemia vera (PV), a subtype of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). Some pts achieve molecular responses (MR), but clonal factors sensitizing for MR remain elusive. We integrated colony formation and differentiation assays with single-cell RNA seq and genotyping in PV-derived cells vs.

Hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma in children and adolescents.

Blood Adv

January 2025

Univeristy of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, United States.

Hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL) is an aggressive mature T-cell lymphoma characterized by significant hepatosplenomegaly, bone marrow involvement, and minimal or no lymphadenopathy. Primarily affecting young adults, it is exceptionally rare in children and adolescents. This makes diagnosis and treatment particularly challenging for pathologists and pediatric oncologists.

The prognosis for patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) has improved dramatically since the introduction of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and intravenous arsenic trioxide (ATO). However, ATO administration requires daily infusions over several months, representing an onerous burden for hospitals and patients. We evaluated the bioavailability of a novel encapsulated oral ATO formulation in APL patients in first complete remission during standard-of-care consolidation.

Innovative Applications of Bacteria and Their Derivatives in Targeted Tumor Therapy.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Institute of Nanobiomaterials and Immunology & Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Plant Evolutionary Ecology and Conservation, School of Life Sciences, Taizhou University, Zhejiang Taizhou 318000, China.

Despite significant progress in cancer treatment, traditional therapies still face considerable challenges, including poor targeting, severe toxic side effects, and the development of resistance. Recent advances in biotechnology have revealed the potential of bacteria and their derivatives as drug delivery systems for tumor therapy by leveraging their biological properties. Engineered bacteria, including , , and , along with their derivatives─outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), bacterial ghosts (BGs), and bacterial spores (BSPs)─can be loaded with a variety of antitumor agents, enabling precise targeting and sustained drug release within the tumor microenvironment (TME).
