Background And Aim: Due to the particularities of the first steps of the game food chain, large game species are shot, bled, and handled in collection points (spot of evisceration and initial examination in the field). These steps of the game meat chain affect the microbiological quality of this type of meat, thus posing a risk to consumers. This study aimed to characterize the collection points in terms of central hygiene and biosecurity procedures/requirements.

Background: Bovine besnoitiosis is an emerging disease caused by the protozoa that can have a serious economic impact on affected farms. The fact that there is no effective vaccine nor treatment, along with the lack of consistent epidemiologic data, renders the implementation of preventive medicine and control strategies much harder.
Objectives: A cross-sectional serological assessment was performed to better understand the distribution and prevalence of this parasite in a large beef cattle farm in Portugal and to establish some epidemiological characteristics of besnoitiosis.

Chronic pain is a multidimensional experience and pain treatments targeting psychosocial factors reduce pain and improve function. These treatments often overlook the sociocultural factors that influence pain and the psychological factors associated with function in people with chronic pain. Although preliminary findings suggest that cultural background may influence pain and function via their effects on beliefs and coping, no previous study has directly tested if the country of origin moderates the associations between these psychological factors and pain and function.

During and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, several works reflected on young people's physical and psychological health. The Dual Factor Model, which we refer to as the quadripartite model, is useful for understanding children's and adolescents' psychological health and differentiating them regarding their attitude toward the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this investigation, students from the fifth to twelfth year of schooling enrolled in the DGEEC study "Psychological Health and Wellbeing in Portuguese schools" were considered.

Postictal psychosis (PIP) is one of the most common types of psychosis in epileptic patients. By virtue of the paucity of research on PIP, its pathophysiology remains not completely understood. Our case report describes a clinical picture of PIP, characterized by pleomorphic features, with neither Schneider's firstrank symptoms nor negative symptoms of schizophrenia, in a longstanding epileptic female patient with a history of nonadherence to antiepileptic treatment and poorly controlled seizures.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a rare, progressive demyelinating disease of the central nervous system caused by reactivation and replication of the John Cunningham (JC) virus in cerebral oligodendrocytes. The JC virus is a small ubiquitous polyomavirus that can be detected in up to 50% of the adult population. It affects almost exclusively immunocompromised patients and is generally observed in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and patients with hematologic malignancies and autoimmune or chronic inflammatory diseases medicated with immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory drugs.
