Objective: To assess residual postoperative refractive astigmatism following bilateral implantation of a trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) in a real-world multisurgeon setting.

Design: Prospective multisurgeon study (6 surgeons at 2 sites).

Methods: Bilateral implantation of a trifocal toric IOL (AcrySof PanOptix IOL; Alcon Vision LLC, Fort Worth, TX, USA) was performed in 140 eyes of 70 patients.

Heterogeneous early illness courses of Korean patients with bipolar disorders: replication of the staging model.

Background: Clinical staging of bipolar disorder (BD) requires application of real-world data, as the next step in hypothesis. This study used the staging model to analyze the long-term course of BD in Korean patients based on clinical features and treatment responses to map the progression of bipolar illness from its early phase after the onset of illness.

Methods: A total of 136 patients diagnosed with BD-I (n = 62) or BD-II (n = 74) were recruited.

Background: Whilst timely clinical characterisation of infections caused by novel SARS-CoV-2 variants is necessary for evidence-based policy response, individual-level data on infecting variants are typically only available for a minority of patients and settings.

Methods: Here, we propose an innovative approach to study changes in COVID-19 hospital presentation and outcomes after the Omicron variant emergence using publicly available population-level data on variant relative frequency to infer SARS-CoV-2 variants likely responsible for clinical cases. We apply this method to data collected by a large international clinical consortium before and after the emergence of the Omicron variant in different countries.

Introduction: Rates of unintended pregnancy are higher in women living with HIV than in those without HIV. The World Health Organization and the Canadian HIV Pregnancy Planning Guidelines recommend preventing unintended pregnancies and offering contraception counselling to women living with HIV to reduce the rate of perinatal HIV transmission worldwide. No studies have assessed post-partum (PP) contraception use in women living with HIV in Canada.

Background: Patient-level surveillance of antimicrobial use (AMU) in Canadian hospitals empowers the reduction of inappropriate AMU and was piloted in 2017 among 14 hospitals in Canada. We aimed to describe AMU on the basis of patient-level data in Canadian hospitals in 2018 in terms of antimicrobial prescribing prevalence and proportions, antimicrobial indications, and agent selection in medical, surgical and intensive care wards.

Three-dimensional analysis of anterior talofibular ligament strain patterns during cadaveric ankle motion using a miniaturized ligament performance probe.

Background: Measuring the strain patterns of ligaments at various joint positions informs our understanding of their function. However, few studies have examined the biomechanical properties of ankle ligaments; further, the tensile properties of each ligament, during motion, have not been described. This limitation exists because current biomechanical sensors are too big to insert within the ankle.

High-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (HGESS) may harbor YWHAE-NUTM2A/B fusion, ZC3H7B-BCOR fusion, and BCOR internal tandem duplication (ITD). NTRK3 upregulation and pan-Trk expression were reported in soft tissue lesions that share similar morphology and genetic abnormalities. To confirm these findings in HGESS, differential expression analysis was performed at gene level comparing 11 HGESS with 48 other uterine sarcomas, including 9 low-grade endometrial stromal sarcomas, 23 undifferentiated uterine sarcomas, and 16 leiomyosarcomas, using targeted RNA sequencing data.
