Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging field of cancer treatments that are becoming more widespread in their use. However, there are potential ocular toxicities associated with these drugs that ophthalmologists need to be aware of to better maintain ocular health as patients undergo rigorous medical treatment for their conditions. While many ADCs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), many subsequent reports have been published regarding additional ocular side effects these drugs may cause.

The development of drug resistance in metastatic tumours under chemotherapy: An evolutionary perspective.

We present a mathematical model of the evolutionary dynamics of a metastatic tumour under chemotherapy, comprising non-local partial differential equations for the phenotype-structured cell populations in the primary tumour and its metastasis. These equations are coupled with a physiologically-based pharmacokinetic model of drug administration and distribution, implementing a realistic delivery schedule. The model is carefully calibrated from the literature, focusing on BRAF-mutated melanoma treated with Dabrafenib as a case study.

Metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) in particular may progress from a low/intermediate to a high-grade disease. The aim of this work was to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying metastatic progression as well as PanNET transformation from a low/intermediate to a high-grade disease.

Symptomatic osteonecrosis in children treated for Hodgkin lymphoma: A population-based study in Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.

Background: Osteonecrosis (ON) is a potentially disabling skeletal complication of cancer treatment. Although symptomatic osteonecrosis (sON) is well-known in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with an incidence around 6%, studies on sON in pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) are scarce. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence, risk factors, and outcome of sON in children treated for HL.

Preventing radiation-induced dysphagia and trismus in head and neck cancer-A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Radiation-induced dysphagia and restricted mouth opening are common problems among patients with head and neck cancer. The aim of the present randomized controlled trial was to determine if an exercise protocol could prevent swallowing and mouth opening impairment.

Methods: Eighty-nine participants were randomly assigned to either an active group performing preventive swallowing and mouth opening exercises (n = 45) or to a control group (n = 44).

CSF biomarkers of neurotoxicity in childhood cancer survivors after cranial radiotherapy or surgery.

Objective: Treatment of pediatric brain tumors is associated with potential long-term cognitive sequelae. Patients treated with craniospinal irradiation for posterior fossa tumors are at high risk. New biomarkers that could help to differentiate treatment effects from other causes of cognitive dysfunction would be valuable in tailoring optimal survivorship care.

A Case Report on Unilateral Non-axial Proptosis of a Young Female: Lacrimal Gland Tumour.

Background: Lacrimal gland adenoma is a benign tumour of the lacrimal gland mostly involving the orbital part of the gland and composed of epithelial and myoepithelial components. It involves the third and fourth decade of life as a gradual painless enlargement of the lacrimal gland.

Case: This is a case report of a 30-year-old female presenting with the forward bulging of the right eye causing the eye to be displaced medio-inferiorly over the course of one year.

Microbiological screening of corneas stored in organ culture medium at Lions Eye Bank of Western Australia from 2011 to 2022.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyse the contamination rate of corneal samples stored in OCM at Lions Eye Bank of Western Australia over a 12-year period.

Methods: All OCM samples used to preserve corneas from 2011 to 2022 (inclusive) underwent microbiological testing. Samples were collected into aerobic and anaerobic culture bottles on day 3-5 of corneal preservation and 24 h after transfer to thinning medium.

Risk of recurrence in high-risk T1 colon cancer following endoscopic and surgical resection: registry-based cohort study.

Background: Endoscopic resection of T1 colon cancer (CC) is currently limited by guidelines related to risk of lymph node metastases. However, clinical outcome following endoscopic and surgical resection is poorly investigated.

Method: A retrospective multicentre national cohort study was conducted on prospectively collected data from the Swedish colorectal cancer registry on all non-pedunculated T1 CC patients undergoing surgical and endoscopic resection between 2009 and 2021.

IL-6-mediated endothelial injury impairs antiviral humoral immunity after bone marrow transplantation.

Endothelial function and integrity are compromised after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT), but how this affects immune responses broadly remains unknown. Using a preclinical model of CMV reactivation after BMT, we found compromised antiviral humoral responses induced by IL-6 signaling. IL-6 signaling in T cells maintained Th1 cells, resulting in sustained IFN-γ secretion, which promoted endothelial cell (EC) injury, loss of the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) responsible for IgG recycling, and rapid IgG loss.

Malignant ovarian and testicular germ cell tumors: Common characteristics but different prognoses.

Both ovarian and testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) arise from the primordial germ cell and share many similarities. Both malignancies affect mainly young patients, show remarkable responsiveness to cisplatin-based therapy, and have an excellent prognosis, which also highlights the importance of minimizing long-term side effects. However, certain differences can be noted: The spreading of the disease differs, and the staging system and treatment recommendations are dissimilar.

Transorbital and endonasal resection of a rare orbital ectopic atypical meningioma.

A female patient in her early 20s presented with increasing proptosis of her left eye over 2 months. She had no other signs of diplopia, pain or visual loss on initial presentation. Subsequent imaging of her orbits revealed a medial rectus tumour.

In this work, we employ a synergistic experimental and mathematical modelling approach to explore the invasion process of tumor cells.
