Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging field of cancer treatments that are becoming more widespread in their use. However, there are potential ocular toxicities associated with these drugs that ophthalmologists need to be aware of to better maintain ocular health as patients undergo rigorous medical treatment for their conditions. While many ADCs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), many subsequent reports have been published regarding additional ocular side effects these drugs may cause.

Introduction Salivary gland lesions include a diverse range of histological types and biological behaviors, making accurate diagnosis and effective treatment challenging for specialists. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) plays a significant role in making preoperative diagnoses and further plans of surgery. In differentiating malignant from benign salivary gland tumors, the diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is high.

We present a mathematical model of the evolutionary dynamics of a metastatic tumour under chemotherapy, comprising non-local partial differential equations for the phenotype-structured cell populations in the primary tumour and its metastasis. These equations are coupled with a physiologically-based pharmacokinetic model of drug administration and distribution, implementing a realistic delivery schedule. The model is carefully calibrated from the literature, focusing on BRAF-mutated melanoma treated with Dabrafenib as a case study.

Tumour evolution with acquisition of more aggressive disease characteristics is a hallmark of disseminated cancer. Metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) in particular may progress from a low/intermediate to a high-grade disease. The aim of this work was to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying metastatic progression as well as PanNET transformation from a low/intermediate to a high-grade disease.

Background: Osteonecrosis (ON) is a potentially disabling skeletal complication of cancer treatment. Although symptomatic osteonecrosis (sON) is well-known in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with an incidence around 6%, studies on sON in pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) are scarce. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence, risk factors, and outcome of sON in children treated for HL.

Background: Radiation-induced dysphagia and restricted mouth opening are common problems among patients with head and neck cancer. The aim of the present randomized controlled trial was to determine if an exercise protocol could prevent swallowing and mouth opening impairment.
Methods: Eighty-nine participants were randomly assigned to either an active group performing preventive swallowing and mouth opening exercises (n = 45) or to a control group (n = 44).

Background: One of the first clinical observations of ibrutinib activity in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a rapid decline in lymph nodes size. This phenomenon is accompanied by an hyperlymphocytosis, either transient or prolonged, which is associated with distinct clinical responses and thus has an impact on long-term outcomes. Understanding which factors determine distinct disease courses upon ibrutinib treatment remains a scientific challenge.

Objective: Treatment of pediatric brain tumors is associated with potential long-term cognitive sequelae. Patients treated with craniospinal irradiation for posterior fossa tumors are at high risk. New biomarkers that could help to differentiate treatment effects from other causes of cognitive dysfunction would be valuable in tailoring optimal survivorship care.

Severe haematological diseases and lymphoid malignancies require bone marrow (BM)-suppressive treatments. Knowledge regarding the impact of BM-suppressive treatments on children's memory T cells is very limited. Memory T cells play a crucial role in defending against herpesviruses, which is particularly relevant in paediatric cancer care.

Background: Lacrimal gland adenoma is a benign tumour of the lacrimal gland mostly involving the orbital part of the gland and composed of epithelial and myoepithelial components. It involves the third and fourth decade of life as a gradual painless enlargement of the lacrimal gland.
Case: This is a case report of a 30-year-old female presenting with the forward bulging of the right eye causing the eye to be displaced medio-inferiorly over the course of one year.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyse the contamination rate of corneal samples stored in OCM at Lions Eye Bank of Western Australia over a 12-year period.
Methods: All OCM samples used to preserve corneas from 2011 to 2022 (inclusive) underwent microbiological testing. Samples were collected into aerobic and anaerobic culture bottles on day 3-5 of corneal preservation and 24 h after transfer to thinning medium.

Background: Endoscopic resection of T1 colon cancer (CC) is currently limited by guidelines related to risk of lymph node metastases. However, clinical outcome following endoscopic and surgical resection is poorly investigated.
Method: A retrospective multicentre national cohort study was conducted on prospectively collected data from the Swedish colorectal cancer registry on all non-pedunculated T1 CC patients undergoing surgical and endoscopic resection between 2009 and 2021.

Angiosarcoma is a rare and aggressive type of soft-tissue sarcoma with high propensity to metastasize. For patients with metastatic angiosarcoma, prognosis is dismal and treatment options are limited. To improve the outcomes, identifying patients with poor treatment response at an earlier stage is imperative, enabling alternative therapy.

Endothelial function and integrity are compromised after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT), but how this affects immune responses broadly remains unknown. Using a preclinical model of CMV reactivation after BMT, we found compromised antiviral humoral responses induced by IL-6 signaling. IL-6 signaling in T cells maintained Th1 cells, resulting in sustained IFN-γ secretion, which promoted endothelial cell (EC) injury, loss of the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) responsible for IgG recycling, and rapid IgG loss.

Both ovarian and testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) arise from the primordial germ cell and share many similarities. Both malignancies affect mainly young patients, show remarkable responsiveness to cisplatin-based therapy, and have an excellent prognosis, which also highlights the importance of minimizing long-term side effects. However, certain differences can be noted: The spreading of the disease differs, and the staging system and treatment recommendations are dissimilar.

One of the most crucial and lethal characteristics of solid tumors is represented by the increased ability of cancer cells to migrate and invade other organs during the so-called metastatic spread. This is allowed thanks to the production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes capable of degrading a type of collagen abundant in the basal membrane separating the epithelial tissue from the connective one. In this work, we employ a synergistic experimental and mathematical modelling approach to explore the invasion process of tumor cells.

Epidemiological studies have explored the relationship between allergic diseases and cancer risk or prognosis in AllergoOncology. Some studies suggest an inverse association, but uncertainties remain, including in IgE-mediated diseases and glioma. Allergic disease stems from a Th2-biased immune response to allergens in predisposed atopic individuals.
