BACKGROUND Acute kidney injury with acute renal failure is associated with severe diabetic ketoacidosis. This retrospective study was conducted at a single center in China and aimed to compare combined hemodialysis and hemoperfusion (hemodialysis+hemoperfusion) with hemoperfusion alone in 106 patients with diabetic ketoacidosis and acute renal failure. MATERIAL AND METHODS The 106 patients were divided into 2 groups according to different dialysis programs, with 53 cases in each group.

Background: Alpha B-crystallin (CRYAB), as a small heat shock protein, may play critical roles in the tumorigenesis and progression of several kinds of human cancers. However, the prognostic value of CRYAB in solid malignancies remains controversial. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between CRYAB expression and clinicopathology and prognosis of solid tumor patients.

Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling plays critical roles in both physiological and pathological conditions. In the tumor microenvironment, TGF-β are well demonstrated as a tumor inducer, which also promote tumor growth and metastasis. SMAD family is an important TGF-β signalling transducer, which consists of receptor-regulated SMADs (R-SMADs), common-mediator SMADs (co-SMADs), and inhibitory SMADs (I-SMADs).

Article Synopsis
  • The SNRPA gene plays a crucial role in the splicing of pre-mRNA and has been studied to determine its connection with lung cancer using datasets from TCGA and GEO.
  • Research revealed that SNRPA was highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), with higher levels linked to poorer survival outcomes in LUAD patients.
  • The study also found that SNRPA expression may be influenced by promoter methylation and is correlated with specific immune cell infiltration, suggesting a complex role in lung cancer development and prognosis.

Reportedly, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) are crucial modulators in neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, we investigated the role of lncRNA nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) in Parkinson's disease (PD). PD model was established based on SH-SY5Y cells treated with 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+).

Background: It is necessary to analyze the CT pulmonary vascular parameters and disease severity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients to provide evidence support for the management of COPD.

Methods: COPD patients on acute exacerbation admitted to our hospital from COPD patients from January 2019 to March 2020 was selected. The characteristics and ratio of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of small pulmonary vessels to the total area of the lung field, and the ratio of pulmonary artery and aorta (PA/A) cross-sectional diameter in patients with COPD were analyzed.

Novel Small Molecular Compound AE-848 Potently Induces Human Multiple Myeloma Cell Apoptosis by Modulating the NF-κB and PI3K/Akt/mTOR Signaling Pathways.

Onco Targets Ther

December 2020

Department of Hematology, The Second Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Background: We aimed to investigate the anti-multiple myeloma (MM) activity of the new small molecular compound AE-848 (5-bromo-2-hydroxyisophthalaldehyde bis[(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)hydrazone]) and its underlying anti-MM mechanism.

Methods: Cell viability and apoptosis were detected and quantified by using MTT and flow cytometry, respectively. JC-1 dye-related techniques were used to assess mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).

Non‑small‑cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 80% of lung cancer cases, and is the leading cause of cancer‑associated mortality worldwide. The present study aimed to investigate the roles of microRNA (miR)‑654‑3p in NSCLC. The expression levels of miR‑654‑3p and its target ras protein activator like 2 (RASAL2) mRNA were determined by reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction; protein expression was analyzed by western blotting.

Neuronal injury induced by cerebral ischemia poses a serious health risk globally, and there is no effective clinical therapy. This study was performed to investigate the role of transcription factor AP-2 alpha (TFAP2A) in cerebral ischemia, and the underlying mechanisms, using an in-vitro model (PC-12 cells) of oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), and an in-vivo model (rat) of transient global cerebral ischemia (tGCI). The results for CCK-8 and Hoechst staining showed that silencing of TFAP2A enhanced the viability and decreased the rate of apoptosis of PC12 cells subjected to OGD.
