In this paper, 64-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) retrospective electrocardiographic (ECG) gating technology was used to perform coronary CT angiography scans. The aorta and aortic pulmonary artery diameter were measured quantitatively in healthy people and patients with hypertension and cerebrovascular disease. Corresponding aortic pulmonary artery ratios were obtained through calculation, and the changes of aortic diameter, aortic pulmonary artery ratio, and aortic diameter difference between different cardiac phases, ages, sexes, and levels of hypertension were discussed.

Oncol Lett

January 2020

Department of Blood Transfusion, Linyi Central Hospital, Linyi, Shandong 276400, P.R. China.

Cisplatin (DDP)-resistance in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) severely influences the prognosis of affected patients. This study aims to uncover the potential role of AFAP1-AS1 in DDP-resistant NSCLC and the underlying mechanism. The expression level of AFAP1-AS1 in DDP-resistant NSCLC patients and DDP-resistant A549 cells (A549/DDP) was determined.

Lung cancer, which is a leading cause of cancer‑related deaths, is diagnosed at a male to female ratio of 2.1:1. Serine‑threonine kinase 31 (STK31) is a novel cancer/testis (CT)‑related gene that is highly expressed in several types of cancers, such as lung and colorectal cancer, and plays crucial roles in cancer.

Background: The mesoderm induction early response 1, family member 3 (MIER3) gene has been recognized as potentially being associated with cancer. However, in relation to the development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the expression pattern and the role of MIER3 are yet to be reported. The aim of this research was to investigate the rate of expression of MIER3 in NSCLC cells and tissues and to investigate the role of MIER3 in NSCLC.

Background: This study aimed to observe the hypoglycemic effect of cassia seed extract in rats with type-2 diabetes mellitus and its effect on reducing insulin resistance in the skeletal muscle.

Methods: 50 rats were randomly divided into the normal, model, high-dose, middle-dose, and low-dose groups of cassia seed extract (n = 10 each). A high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin administration was adopted to build type 2 diabetes models.

Objective: To examine the clinical effect of computed tomography angiography (CTA) on parameters of intracranial aneurysms in different locations and with different sizes using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the standard.

Methods: Patients with intracranial aneurysms who underwent CTA examinations at the same center and received DSA examinations within 3 days were analyzed retrospectively. The morphological parameters of the aneurysms and parent arteries were measured with these two methods.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of miR-210 abnormal expression on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated primary human periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs). The miR-210 level was identified in gingival tissues from patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and healthy subjects as well as LPS-treated PDLCs by qRT-PCR. Cell viability, apoptotic cells, expression of proteins associated with apoptosis, and release of inflammatory factors in LPS-treated PDLCs were measured using MTT assay, flow cytometry assay, western blotting and ELISA, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs), particularly miR-509-5p, has been linked to male infertility, with this specific miRNA being highly expressed in the testis and known to have tumor-suppressive effects in various cancers.
  • A study found that miR-509-5p is significantly downregulated in germ cells from infertile men, suggesting an association between low miR-509-5p levels and male infertility issues, particularly maturation arrest.
  • miR-509-5p inhibits the growth and promotes apoptosis of testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT) cells by targeting the oncogenic factor MDM2, highlighting its potential role in the development of both male infertility and TGCT

Surface tailored GaAu loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles are considered as an important nanomaterial for biomedical applications such as diagnosis and cancer treatment. In this study, we used GaAu loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Ga-Au@mSiO) for the photothermal treatment of two prostate cancer cell lines. We systematically examined the nanocomposite form by various spectroscopic (UV-Vis, TGA and DTA) and electroscopic techniques (TEM and SEM including the elemental mapping analysis).

Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is a common tumor of the digestive system with poor prognosis. Studies have shown that aberrant microRNA (miRNA) expression can affect CRC progression by regulating target genes. In the present study, we investigated the functional roles and potential mechanisms of miR-331-3p in CRC.

Downregulation of lncRNA H19 (H19) expression is associated with an unfavorable prognosis in some cancers. However, little was known as to whether there was an association between H19 and minimally invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma (MI-FTC). In our study, we used quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) to determine H19 expression in 186 patients with MI-FTC who underwent initial surgery.
