Background: In-stent restenosis (ISR) is a complex disease that occurs after coronary stenting procedures. The development of quality materials and improvement of our understanding on significant factors regulating ISR are essential for enhancing prognosis. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are the main constituent cells of blood vessel walls, and dysfunction of VMSCs can exacerbate ISR.

Cerebral autosomal recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathyis a rare form of inherited cerebral small vessel disease associated with mutations in the high-temperature requirement serine peptidase A1 gene. As of now, only about 50 cases have been reported. In 2012, our group reported a family with a novel mutant of the high-temperature requirement serine peptidase A1 gene in China for the first time.

In China, a rapid expansion of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) outbreaks has occurred since 2004, and HFMD has become an important issue in China. There are more than 20 types of enterovirus causing HFMD, of which coxsackievirus A16 (CA16) and enterovirus 71 (EV71) are the most common. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of HFMD caused by EV71 and CA16 in Linyi, Shandong province, China, from 2009 to 2017.

Although dietary patterns are crucial to cognitive function, associations of dietary patterns with cognitive function have not yet been fully understood. This cross-sectional study explored dietary patterns associated with cognitive function among the older adults in underdeveloped regions, using 1504 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 and over. Diet was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire and 24-h dietary recall.

Introduction: TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1) is a noncanonical IκB kinase family member that regulates the innate immune response. Misregulation of TBK1 activity can promote inflammatory disorders and oncogenesis; therefore, TBK1 inhibitors are considered a promising therapy for inflammation and cancer.
Areas Covered: In this review, the authors provide information on the role of TBK1 in human health and on recently developed inhibitors from patents granted from 2011 to 2014.

Activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) is a member of the leucine zipper family of DNA-binding proteins and is widely distributed in tissues including the liver, lung, spleen, and kidney. Like c-Jun and c-Fos, ATF2 responds to stress-related stimuli and may thereby influence cell proliferation, inflammation, apoptosis, oncogenesis, neurological development and function, and skeletal remodeling. Recent studies clarify the regulatory role of ATF2 in inflammation and describe potential inhibitors of this protein.

Chronic exposure to carbon disulfide (CS₂) can induce polyneuropathy in occupational worker and experimental animals, but underlying mechanism for CS₂ neuropathy is currently unknown. In the present study, male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three experimental groups and one control group. The rats in experimental groups were treated with CS₂ by gavage at dosages of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg/day respectively, six times per week for 6 weeks.
